“The best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2008

We have just got back from a three week trip to South Africa and our time at Ngala lodge was the highlight. I booked through the CC africa website and they were so helpful. We arrived at the lodge by a small plane and were transfered on a 4 x 4. The lodge was above and beyond all expectations. yes - we paid a lot of money - but not as much as you could have paid for a safari in the Kruger. the room was amazing, incredibly romantic. There was everything you needed and more. nothing was too much for the staff who looked after you. the food was out of this world and the safari drives were brilliant. Our ranger, Penny, was so knowledgeable and good fun. We had a drive every morning at 5.30 am and then one in the afternoon at 4pm. We saw every animal possible and were very lucky. the drives last for about three hours. every evening is different and you eat in a different place. At one point we even had a meal in the bush! Eating a four course meal whilst listening to lions roar is something else!!! We loved every minute and glad we participated in the buy three nights get four deal. We were sad to leave!

  • Liked — pure luxury in the bush
  • Disliked — you had to be walked to your room by a ranger as there were lions about!

What an amazing place, warm, welcoming staff who can't do enough to make your stay enjoyable. The accomodation is 5 star, you literally are in the middle of the reserve so can not go outside without your own personal security guard at night. It is fine to walk around during the day. We were sat by the pool sipping cocktails when a herd of elephants came to drink from the watering hole, an experience I will not forget. The food is superb, a great selection for everyones taste.
The safari's are individual, all guests go out together in different jeeps, but head in different directions so you all get your own individual experience (no hoards of jeeps surrounding animals). The rangers do everything they can to cater for individaul interests e.g birds, reptiles and of course the big 5! Stopping half way either for coffee or cocktails was a nice touch.
The only negative thing I had to say was the other guests! Unfortunately we were ther ewhen a large group of VERY wealthy people took over the pool! Nothing could spoil our experience though.

I cannot enthuse enough about our experience at Ngala Game Lodge. The lodge is luxurious and we were completely spoilt during our stay here. The staff are very friendly and the service is excellent. Our game drives were wonderful and we managed to see the big 5 and most other animals. The rangers here are really lovely and very informative, and endeavour to make everyone's safari experience special. Ngala's policy of not having too many vehicles around an animal at any one time is great. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting luxury, peace, and great game viewing.

An expensive option, but worth it.

Fantastic accommodation, cleaned and tidies several times a day.

Great food - varied locations each day, and always delicious with plenty of choice (they also catered well for my allergy).

Superb guides and trackers, and only 6 people maximum in a jeep.
2 game drives per day, and the guide takes note of what you want to see, and try to accommodate (e.g. catering for bird lovers vs big animal lovers).

We saw EVERYTHING from lions mating to cheetahs on a chase! It was amazing!

Highly recommended.

Ngala was definitely one of the highlights of our African adventure. It is a very attractive lodge with a great location adjacent to Kruger. The service was very personalized - they couldn't do enough for us. And the guides and game drives could not have been better. I highly, highly recommend Ngala if you are considering the private lodges.

We were lucky enough to stay at Ngala for 2 1/2 days. I did not want to leave. I have never been treated so well by every single staff member, enjoyed such fantastic food and ambiance, and felt so lucky to experience my first safari there. We were able to participate in 4 game drives and we saw almost every animal you could imagine. Derrick and Jonah were our driver and tracker--I can't imagine the drives with anyone else. The food was phenomenal and the setting took my breath away. The beauty of the lodges, bungalows and grounds is unsurpassed. From the fresh squeezed lemonade upon arrival to tea before your drives to the drink of the evening being delivered to your bungalow before dinner, it was an experience my husband and I will never forget. We were there in early September and can't wait to return. The CC Africa organization runs Ngala and it's wonderful to know they are a company with a conscience, giving back to the schools and health organizations of the local community.

Ngala was truly fabulous. The safaris are always a bit of a gamble, as wild animals don't appear on command, but with Ngala's well-trained guides the odds are definitely in your favor. The accommodations and food are also beyond reproach. I can't recommend Ngala highly enough.
