We stayed at Senalala Game Lodge for five nights in Nov 12. The lodge is beautiful overlooking a dry (at the time) river bed and a pumped water hole where we saw giraffe drinking (alway amusing), baboons, impala and hyena from the comfort of the camp.
The rooms and common area are all nicely furnished and equipped. I think due to the flood risk they keep them relatively basic but we really didn't need more. The food and service was very good. The staff stayed out of our way, our beds were made and food on the table and your barely saw anyone around the camp! They were however around when they wanted to point out any interesting small animals or birds they had found around the camp. The fridge was stocked with drinks, and tea and coffee available to serve yourself.
James our host/guide was very experienced, knowledgeable and passionate about the african bush. We didn't see all the game we wanted to however we had some amazingly close elephant encounters. I think we were unlucky in our game viewing though as people I know who went only a few weeks after us saw the Big 5. Such is the African bush, makes it all the more real and when you don't feel like you are in a zoo or need to wait your turn to see the animals like in some other private parks. We took some bush walks too which were very interesting and I learnt a lot about the fauna and flora you would normally drive straight past.
The best part was we had the camp all to ourselves. We were in a party of 11 and we didn't see anyone else for the five days, which was perfect for our family get-together.
