The best safari experience. Got to see many lions, a pair of cheetahs, elephants with babies, African wild dogs, giraffe, zebra, buck, hippo, and the list goes on and on. Two days of great game drives. Mike, our driver, was unbelievably knowledgable about EVERYTHING. It was quite amazing what he knew and shared with us. You couldn't find a more passionate guy. And our scout, Moses, was truly amazing. We rode in a open vehicle throughout the reserve and got up close to the animals. Never did we feel uncomfortable. They knew what they were doing and made sure we were OK at all times.

The camp was first class. Nice accommodations. King size bed downstairs, two doubles up in the loft. Comfortable and clean.

The pool is beautiful and clean. Nice place to spend when not out looking for animals.

Restaurant is lovely. Food is buffet style with nice choices. You can either eat at smaller tables or communal tables. We chose the latter and spent more time with the folks who went out on safari with us. Elvis, the local porcupine, came to visit us at the restaurant while we were there. That was a lot of fun.

There are some very interesting other options while there. Some we heard about but others we only found out after it was too late which was a big disappointment. We went on a walking safari one afternoon which was really very cool. But we only learnt later that we could have done a balloon ride and that they sponsor an orphanage which we would have liked to visit. Other than an elephant back safari, there may be other things we could have considered if we knew about them.

Kapama is a great place to go and the highlight of our trip. It was the best safari we were on. But understand that this is a bigger camp with quite a few people. We also went to a quiet, more intimate lodge one other day. The experience was quite different. But the safari portion at Kapama was by far the best and the facility first rate.

We was there in jan/2013 . We are a brazilian family , me ,she , 2 girls ages 15/18 ; 2 my cousins seniors . After landing in airport , in few minutes we was in "jeeps " , guides , bagage ok . In 20 min in Southern Camp . The airport is in Kapama complex and you can see many animals when you going hotel .The check in is fast , friendly , customized. They do every I need ; like 2 conected rooms . The food is simple but excelent .The rooms clean ( 2 times/day ) , no insects , complete bathroom, comfortable , frigobar ,snacks , etc.Sometimes monkeys was walking beside the rooms .The rangers was fantastic ( Mike , Dennis ).Ralie and Eugene , managers perfect. We do 2 safaris p day , at 6 am (3h) , cofee at 9 am , 13h lunch , another safari at 5pm (3h) and dinner at 9pm. We saw the big fives and zebras , piton , cheetas , etc. We used " Tabard " or "Exposis " ,insect repelents , very eficients. I sugest a good shoe (may be a boot) , t shirts , trousers with zipers in legs (to convert in shorts), sunblock , a jacket , a cap and sunglasses. We did a tour ballon (1h) , little expansive U$400 p/p,very beautiful . It was a incredible (and secure )experience , we think Kapama was one of best experiences in ZA and in our lives.Be atencion in final built , little confused price of extras .

Room Tip: talk with manager and explain what you need

Spent 2 nights in Buffalo Camp and 1 night in Southern Camp in Dec 2012

Overall, the key difference between the two was that the former is more for couples (also more pricey, because of more fancy accommodation and more fancy food) while the latter caters more to families.

We booked a room but were upgraded to a Suite (which we appreciated). It was very comfortable.

Food was also amazing, both in terms of quantity and quality -- we were fed multiple times a day, and our waistlines suffered.

Staff were also very warm and friendly -- we appreciated the singing during our dinner when they celebrated someone's birthday and also shared some folk songs with everyone.

But what you travel to Kruger for is the safari experience. In that respect, we were not disappointed. Top marks to Beth our ranger for his dedication to helping us have as many experiences with the animals as possible, and his vivid story-telling.

All in all, an unforgettable experience with Kapama =)

As part of our tips to South Africa booked with Lion World Tours out of Toronto, a fabulous Africa travel agent and consolidator, we travelled to this camp in the private game reserve in or adjacent to Kruger National Park. It is a new camp, very luxurious rooms each with all to wall windows to the bush and large bathrooms with tubs and showers. There were two safaris each day, one at 5:30am and one at 5:30 pm. Each laster about 3 hours. Our ranger was Mike who was absolutely wonderful. a botanist and biologist who taught us about all the animals we saw. Moses was our tracker who was able to find hundreds of birds, elephants with their babies, lion prides, cheeta, crocs, hippos, rhinos, antelope, zebras, impalas, giraffes, warthogs, buffalos and more. All hotel staff welcoming, food wonderful and plentiful. Can't wait to go back

We stayed in Kapama for 7 nights with my aunt at the end of March.
The food was really not great, the buffet were absolutely not exciting and most of the time the veg were not cooked.
The views from the suites are really not interesting as they look at the bush without any open view.
But what upset us the most was the behaviour of both managers who apart from having a commercial face were absolutely useless & even rude at the end of the stay. As we stayed longer than most of the other clients we had the time to find out what's going on in this lodge and I have to say that we were not very pleased, i.e : tips for the staff, do not give the tips to the managers as you can be sure that they won't give them to the staff ( several employees told us the same thing, so we assume that it must be true !!! ) , the staff is not given proper food, most of the time they give them the rest of the buffet 1 or 2 days after & with the temperatures you can imagine the effects with germs....
One of ranger did bring us to the spa ( only thing which is really nice ) one day around 9.30& didn't even had time to have breakfast & was obliged to wait for us until 3 pm as we stayed for several hours & went on the second safari without any break, which was apparently often happening.
Personally we didn't feel great & couldn't enjoy fully our stay knowing that the staff is not well treated & not respected. As well as us as clients, first we had a ranger, after 2 days they changed our ranger & the day after wanted to change us again which we didn't accept & they were crossed at us !! They couldn't book the proper treatments at the spa, so when we arrived at the spa they had no free room for what we wanted & have asked to organise & all we got when we came back was "a sorry" that Eugene didn't mean as well ! When we left the managers didn't even come to say good bye which I think would have been the minimum as we stayed for a "long" period of time.
The staff was great but this lodge should get proper managers who respect their employees

The accommodations here were out of this world! Every day was like a national geographic special- from the moment we entered the reserve we were greeted by wildlife! We saw the big 5 and much, much more. Monkeys playing out in the trees in front of the rooms- warthogs and impala walking by the back door- unbelievable! The rooms were gorgeous- that doesn’t even begin to explain! And if you select this location, be prepared to be pampered at every moment! From the overwhelming spreads of fabulous food prepared by the talented chefs on site, to the two tea times each day- they even stopped for hot chocolate/coffee breaks on the morning game drives, and alcoholic drinks of choice on the evening rides- serving yummy snacks along the way. The spa services were not to be overlooked- as they were superb- and the spa location overlooks a watering hole, so upon entering I was greeted by giraffes sipping water. Sam, a gentleman who works in the dining area provided top notch service! Eugene, one of the managers on site, was truly delightful! The only issue I had was with our safari driver- Tim, who was a bit rude and wasn’t particularly friendly or accommodating to me or several others in our group- but the tracker Muxi (pronounced Mosha) was great! From what others told me, and from what I observed, Richard (another ranger) was amazing and should definitely be requested! I would without a doubt recommend this as a place to live out your dream vacation- it was better than I could have hoped for!!!
