“Tented Luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

We were looking for a place that felt "outdoorsie" but was still comfortable and this hit the spot in a major way. It is tented luxury. Granted the only thing that makes this a tent is the canvas walls and ceilings it does a good job of making you feel like your not in a standard hotel. The hardwood floors and beautiful bathtub and glass wall shower are only the beginning. The tent is beautiful and really meshes luxury and the outdoors well. Food was great and they bent over backwards to make sure all our needs were met (we keep kosher). Nothing was too much for them and we ate better then we have anywhere else. The service is great, the people are great and everything in between.

We went for 2 nights here and 1 night in Karula (should have done 2 and 2) and I am glad we did both, each of them are so unique it was great to be at both.

Words can't describe how awesome the safari was, August is a great time to go, much easier to see the animals as there is less greenery for them to hide behind. Not only did we see the big 5 but we got close enough to touch everyone of them (obviously we didn't) but it was amazing!!! I will say this, if you can try and get Jeffery and David (email before you go) they were unreal! The other ranger and trackers we had just could not compare to them. I didn't realize how much of a difference the ranger and tracker make to the trip but it would not have been the same without them. If you are reading this and are on the fence just do yourself a favor and go, it's amazing you will remember it forever! (try doing 2 nights and 2 nights, you might start to get bored if you do more)

I have travelled to many parts of the globe and this is somewhere not to miss. From our arrival (group of 7) to our departure 5 days later we loved every minute. The safari's where excellent seeing the big 5 in one morning. We all agreed the food was the best we have had on any trip ! The staff especially our driver Jacques and tracker Beni could not do enough for their Australian guests. The accommodation was exceptional. Thank you for a trip of a life time.

Buffalo Camp is an outstanding way to experience safari, since:
1) Perfect Size - only 8-10 "tents" allowing for personal & customized treatment, max of 6pax/vehicle.
2) Extremely knowledgeable Ranges and Trackers - they are the "make it or break it" for the Safari experience. Almero (our Ranger) and Ben (our tracker) really made it very special. Their deep knowledge of the animals, trails and animal tracks ensured we got the best out of each game drive.
3) Kapama Reserve - we experienced on avg 4/5 Big Fives every day of our stay! In a couple drive's you'll check that box and move to the "other lists" such as the ugly 5 or the small 5 given the rich and diverse population of the reserve.
4) Management & Spa Services - management was present at all times during our stay, making sure we were having a great time. Another "must do" is to get a massage/treatment at Kapama's Wellness Center with great service and location. We even saw a lion cruising by the like while relaxing at the pool.
5) Value for Money - you get ridiculous value for money on Buffalo camp as you get the 5 star treatment and the Big 5 experience at the right price.

Combining the above with the convenience of flying commercial with as many (and as heavy) bags as you'd like, you can't go wrong with Kapama. We'll definitively come back and request Almero and Ben to be our Ranger/Tracker team.

We cannot thank the staff at Buffalo Camp enough! Claire, Bianca, Jabu, Johan, Rosie, and Joyce were absolutely wonderful in making our stay at the Camp a memorable one. Claire told us their goal was to "spoil us" and spoil us they did. The tents were beautiful and well appointed. No detail spared. The food and service were impeccable! And now to our Ranger and Tracker--Joe and Foster;
What a team! We could sense their love of the animals and their job from the first drive. Their experience was only surpassed by their passion and respect for these magnificent animals. We were able to see the Big Five and then some. Joe and Foster were determined to make each and every drive a wonderful experience. We were even graced with Foster singing and dancing for us--what a treat. If you can ask for Joe and Foster as your ranger and tracker, you will be guranteed a safari of a lifetime! A super "Thank you" to Joe the Ranger who made our 3 days @ Kapama Buffalo Camp unforgettable!
Congratulations to all the Staff for a very nice and "understated" Tented Camp in the middle of the African Bush.

We are just leaving after having a wonderful experience. We saw the Big 5, plus the ugly 5, plus the small 5, plus, plus, plus. Our guide, Al, and our tracker, Ben, were outstanding. Even showed us one more visit to the king lion on the way to the airport. Tents were fabulous...rocking in the treetops makes you sleep like a baby.. Food was great and the springbok drinks were fun....

Easy to reach from the road.
The tents have been upgraded 2 years back & there are absolutely divine. Very well equipped, well decorated & beautiful terrace on the Bush. A small gem.
The camp overall is very well managed, clean & neat. We were well guided & supported by the staff & the manager. We felt that everybody had a huge experience & that everything is well thought. Here, you are in good hands.
For the game drive, our ranger, Almerio, was very knowledgeable & very pleasant. He has made his best to show us most of the big five & do not hesitate to go off road in the middle of the elephants & lions to show their interactions ....
A very good surprise & address to recommend.
Only negative point is the dinner, maybe it was not a good day but it was not at all in line with the overall standard of the place. Anyway, even with this small disapointment, definitively a place to go.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, Kapama Buffalo Camp offers a unique and intimate experience in the African bush. It is ideal for discovering big game Africa in true safari tented style without compromising on comfort.Ten luxury newly build canvas tents, each sleeping two, are set on wooden decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank. Wooden walkways interconnect the rooms, which are all in the upper reaches of tall riverine trees. The river below rarely flows and antelopes are seen daily walking along the sandy riverbed. Each tented room has all the usual comforts of electricity, en-suite bathroom, safe, writing table, wardrobe, low impact climate control, mini-bar and tea/coffee facilities. The communal areas of Buffalo Camp are on the riverbank, where gardens of succulent aloes and euphorbia are tended around the thatched bar, dining room, pool terrace and campfire. But the thick African bush is just a glance away, inhabited by animals like lion, hyena and jackal whose calls can be heard in the dead of night. Lanterns, rather than electric lights, glow at night under the trees, creating a special intimate ambience particular to Buffalo Camp. With a maximum of 20 guests at Buffalo Camp, special attention is paid to personal service and the staff become like friends. Kapama Buffalo Camp is a truly authentic way to experience the African bush. ... more   less
