“Exceptional on so many levels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2013

Just returned from a 3 days at Kapama Karula. The property, the game reserve and the staff are all exceptional! Was upgraded to suite upon arrival was a great surprise. The suite was amazing, huge and spacious. Everything was to die for. Extremely comfortable and relaxing.

The food was superb! Although if you stay for more than 4-5 days you might find it repeating.

The game drives were great, although it was our first time on a safari and I have no comparison. On almost every drive we was 3-4 of the big five and a TON of general game. Their leopards are still shy, so if you see one - consider yourself very, very lucky. This is because they have been operating for only a few years, while Sabi Sabi for 35 years. This is the only weak link, you might not see the leopard. The game drives were great with Collen and Roy. Amazing experience. The sundowner drinks were so much fun.

The front desk and the manager were exceptional - very courteous and professional. On day 1 when I realised we forgot our sunblock, they immediately arranged one from the spa and brought it to me on the next morning. They should definitely stock this in their gift shop.

The housekeeping and the other staff were great, always greeted with a smile. We felt amazing.

Overall, I would return in a heartbeat and would recommend to anyone. For the price paid we got tremendous value for the money.

A true 5* experience!

Room Tip: All rooms a great, I would skip the suites with the pools. They would be impossible to keep clean du...

Our group of 11 blended family members were treated fabulously by all staff at the camp. This was beyond all expectations. From arrival to departure the service was exceptional. Even after departure several lost items were delivered to us. The game drives were always an adventure. Game Rangers Colin and Geoffrey are outstanding knowledgable and very entertaining. The South African Sundowner experience is delightful. The food and drink is top quality. An exeptional value most highly recommended

Room Tip: Any tent is wonderful

We stayed during our South Africa trip in several luxurious accommodations, but Kapama Karula was for us the top. The suite was large and perfectly maintained with a beautiful view on the
wilderness. We arrived with our own car, which was already a mini safari, as it is approx. 11 km. from the front gate. We have seen a lot of animals and for our ranger Trevor it did not matter if it was raining or not. We were impressed about the very high service level of the safari's and the hotel. The quality of the meals was also perfect. We'll be back !!

We got to see lots of animals - missed the leopard, but did see an elusive cheetah. Elephants, wart hogs and giraffes right as we entered the reserve, a short drive from the Hoodspruit airport. Baboons, monkeys, and antelopes viewed from our balcony. On a night drive, 11 curious lions surrounded our jeep - a bit scary but fun! Thanks to our excellent guide Trevor and to the friendly and efficient hotel staff - with only a dozen cottages and tents, they get to know you quickly. Stayed 3 nights and had drinks on the savannah with our ranger, and meals outside near the pool, a bbq pit and in the open-air lodge area. If you can, do the walking safari, not hard at all and great encounters with water buffalo.

My husband and I loved our stay. We got the luxury tent and it was really nice with a big comfortable bed, a huge jacuzzi tub, etc. My husband even saw buffalo, impala and monkeys in front of our tent. If you have a fear of bugs, I would highly recommend staying in a suite though because at night the bugs do come into the tent. Thankfully, the staff will come clear them, but they will still get in. The lodge is beautiful, the cuisine is five stars, and the rangers are really great (Rex was ours and he is so good at finding the animals). Because it was our honeymoon the lodge put sparkling wine in our room after we came back for one of our afternoon drives, which was a nice surprise. Some words of advice: (1) book your spa treatments and extra excursions before you arrive because they fill up; (2) do the full day spa treatment (from 11am-3:30pm) - it is amazing - best spa I have ever been to; and (3) request to go to the gym well in advance because the rangers have to coordinate pick up and drop offs (it's about a 20 minute drive).

All in all, great time. I will write something longer on my blog, CourtneyMara.com, very soon so keep an eye out if you want more information!

Room Tip: Tent 11 is beautiful but beware that bugs get in the tents so you should book a suite if you have a...

Perfection , care , value guest and make details count ! I do recommend and wish to come back as soon as possible! We stayed in Suite 6 , which is just close (but not too close) from the pool and dining room. Our stay was delightful.

We stayed one night at Kapama Southern Camp and one night at Karula due to availability. Although it might seem stressfull to move after one night it wasn't. The drive wa sjust 15 minutes and everything was taken care of. But if you can choose, go for Karula! This was ultimate luxury! Diner was perfect and served out at the table. No buffet, and a really nice a la carte menu. The superior suite was outstanding. We had lunch at the suite and this is certainly something we would advice! This way we could enjoy the suite the most and the suite is absolutely perfect, if it wasn't for the game drives I wouldn's want to leave!

The game drives are good! They make all the efforts they can to show you the wildlife. And that is really impressive!
