“Wonderful, wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Visited Toro Yaka for my safari July 15-20, 2012. From the beginning, it was a superb experience. Robyn picked me up and gave me a great introduction to the area. Steve introduced me to the lodge and after settling in started with the first of many outstanding meals. Steve is the guide and animal expert and his lovely wife, Nicole, was the chef and a great massage therapist. JB was a wonderful guide and everyone at the lodge provided "5 star" service down to little details that made the experience one to remember. I saw the Big 5 over the next few days. Was up close and personal with lion, elephant and buffalo. Nicole arranged for a day in Kruger Park. Robyn was a fun, great guide--we saw leopard, lion and the rest of the Big 5. She told great stories about Africa.

I had many friends who were doing safaris in the area, including in the same game reserve. From our discussions, it sounds like I had an outstanding experience and saw more animals than most.

I can see why Toro received such high ratings and I add mine to them. It is a special place with wonderful people--I can't wait to come back and visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an out door shower and porch.

We spent in Toro Yaka five days in August 2012. It was really the most delightful moment of our holidays through South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The location is perfect to taste the environment of Kruger National Park biosphere: we had zebras, giraffes, impalas and kudus in Toro yaka garden. It was like being on a documentary set!
Nicole and Steve, the owners and managers, made us really feeling at home, the accomodation was very clean and comfortable, the staff at Toro Yaka is incredibly warm and professional and everything was perfect.
Nicole is an excellent chef and Steve a great and skilled guide to lead you through the park, looking for wild animals.
And in the end, last but not least, I was travelling with my daughter, who suffers from coeliac disease and the cuisine was perfect for her as Nicole was able to prepare everything, even the gluten free bread, muffins and wonderful desserts.
I would recommend this place to everyone travveling to Kruger National Park, also if you have special dietary requirements.

We arrived at Toro Yaka Bush Lodge after staying one night at a larger "5 star" commercial game preserve. We INSTANTLY fell in love with Toro Yaka! It was, by far, MUCH better than the other place. You instantly feel at home when you arrive. The rooms are spacious and so picturesque. The beds and pillows are comfortable. And I love how the mosquito net not only goes completely around the bed, but also around the night stands around the bed to give you plenty of room to walk around the bed with out hitting the net. It's these little details that make this place so great. The pool overlooks the watering hole, and while it was too cold for us to get in, we still sat in the lawn chairs enjoying the peaceful days, watching the birds and other wildlife that appeared.

Don't even get me started on the food. It was the best food we had our entire stay in South Africa. Just the right amount of it, with the right balance of veggies and stuff. Super healthy.

Steve and Nicole are perfectly balanced. Nicole is very hospitable. You are a guest in her home and you feel welcome. Steve is an incredibly knowledgeable guide. He knew the most amazing stuff and was able to give us a GREAT education on the animals and life of the Greater Kruger.

I cannot express how great this place is. We are going back, and taking friends with us.

Room Tip: The elephant room overlooks the watering hole.

We only cn say thank to the Toro YAka Team for all for the wounderfull and amazing days we had at the lodge during our honeymon trip.
The food Nicole offered was fantastic, the drives and walks were so exciting and we learned so much during our trips with Steve, JayBe and Victor. We saw a lot of great animals; especially the "night lion drive" and the Leopard search will be unforgetable!
Everything was brillant and wie really would love to come back one time!
Thanks for everything!

Toro Yaka is a true paradise. The location is unbeatable - right in the bush. As there are only a handful of rooms, it's very quiet and peaceful, too. The rooms are lovely with a great style. Upon arrival, we had a little present on our bed - very personal!! Nicole and her staff is very welcoming and super friendly. The food is out of this world, simply great! Our ranger JB was extremely knowledgeable, too and we had the most fantastic game drives. We loved every minute of our stay and were very sad to leave. We will definitely return when in South Africa again! Thank you, Nicole & staff for making our stay so special!

Prior to booking Toro Yaka, I read all the reviews in Tripadvisor and the words "wonderful", "amazing" and "spectacular" were used in describing this lodge. After our stay I will also use those words in my description. The hosts Nicole and Steve and staff did everything they could to make our 4 day stay the most memorable experience we had in South Africa. The food was wonderful from the exquisite breakfasts to the fine dining around the camp fires. The morning and afternoon game drives were informative and always productive viewing rinos, elephants, hippos, giraffes and many other amazing animals. The game often surrounded our vehicle as they ignored us and went on about their business.
The rooms were very nice. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms spacious. Even a private wood deck to sit quietly and read. Each night the bed was turned down the the mosquito net closed. We never had a bite!
I researched lots of game lodges in the Kruger area and many looked nice, but I am so happy I booked Toro Yaka. It was perfect stay in every respect.
