“Fantatic bush/game experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Naledi is found in the Balule Game Reserve, and is very conveniently located just northwest of Hoedspruit. There are two camps - the Bush Camp and Enkoveni Camp. The Bush Camp is small, with just 3-4 units. It's situated next to what appears to be a dry riverbed or waterhole.
The staff and amenities are amazing! The food is excellent, as is the surrounding bush country. There is a beautiful deck that overlooks the waterhole.
We stayed in the Paperbark unit. This seemed to be fairly new and very elegantly appointed and with total consistency with the "bushveld/safari" theme. Our friends stayed in Marula, which seems to be somewhat older, and does not have quite the charm of Paperbark or the other unit. For one thing, the roof is not thatched, as the other units are. To me, thatched roofs absolutley typify the bush and wildlife country.
Game drives with Kjell were amazing! For one thing, when an animal was sighted that required a closer look, we would literally go off the road and go "bundu bashing" to get much closer. As long as we sat still and didn't make any noise, it's amazing how close you can get to certain animals. We got very close to many animals, and 4 of the big 5, including a black rhino.
Enkoveni Camp, just a few kilometers away from Bush Camp, is nothing short of breathtaking. It's brand new, has all the charm of a great bush lodge, and is situated right on the banks of the famous Olifants River. Every unit faces the river. Large, beatiful decks afford great views! A totally relaxing environment!

I wondered if the lodge would live up to its reviews. I was more than impressed. We stayed for 6 nights and all our expectations were exceeded. Transport from Johannesburg was easily arranged. We were met before and after every excursion by welcoming staff. Their ability to individualize an experience like this was indeed impressive. Kjell was an extraordinary guide and host and his staff went out of their way to provide animal encounters, exciting rides through the bush, gourmet meals and lovely accommodations. We saw the Big 5 (almost Big 10) and each experience was above and beyond what was expected.

The daily activities have been described elsewhere so I won't repeat. I will say that we never felt rushed or pushed to do something we didn't want to do. The guides/trackers were focused on giving us our dream experience and they
succeeded. My new dream is to come back!

Room Tip: All the rooms looked wonderful.

We just returned from a perfect vacation at Naledi. My husband and I stayed at Naledi during the last week in June 2013 for 5 days. From the moment we arrived and to the moment we departed, the staff made us feel right at home. Roxanne and Shaun, the managers really do a wonderful job attending to your every need. The lodge is so beautiful and relaxing and the rooms are gorgeous. We had our own deck to our room overlooking the river. One of the days, there was a herd of elephants who approached the river to drink water. My husband and I relaxed on the deck watching the elephants. It was so nice. During our stay they had two amazing Chefs, Max and Sista and their food was delicious. We were so excited and happy that we got to see all of the big 5 (lions, leopard, rhino, cape buffalo, elephants) during the safari. We saw the leopard on our 1st day which was awesome. Vuyani, the tracker, and Shaun our ranger did a fabulous job tracking the animals. They were very professional, experienced, informative and friendly. They really took care of us during our stay. I have to I also really enjoyed Lucy who attended to us during drinks and meals at the lodge. She was so sweet and kind and she sang us a farewell song that she wrote for us on our last day. The stay was so memorable. I will definitely return to Naledi and recommend to anyone. You will definitely not be disappointed. Thank you Naledi for making our 1st trip to africa amazing!

With a nearly 5 rating and ranked the top camp in the Balule Nature reserve, our expectations were quite high. After spending 6 days and 5 nights, every expectation was exceeded. We stayed in the porcupine room at the Enkoveni camp and the Leadwood building at the bushcamp. From being picked up at the airport to being dropped off 6 days later everything was 5 stars. We stayed at Sabi Sands in 2011, Naledi is far better. The staff is wonderful, the owner met us before each drive and joined us for breakfast and dinner each day and always ensured everything met with our approval. Normally on websites the photos are taken and cropped to show the best possible view, in this case the rooms and the views from the room are far better than the website. The guides and trackers were top notch and well versed. We saw the big 5 and more due to their lean eyes and tracking ability. We highly recommend this camp.

Room Tip: Leadwood at the bushcamp is great for families of four. At Enkoveni, every room has a riverview.

Naledi is an amazing value for the beautiful accommodations and 5-star service. Only complaint would be that our guide was not very knowledgeable or communicative during our drives and seemed to be giving us incorrect information about the animals (only reason I know this is my boyfriend trained as a safari guide). It should also be noted that the terrain at Enkoveni is a bit more difficult to see animals and the rocks make for a rough ride, this is not Naledi's fault and doesn't detract from the world class experience. Only words of advice for Naledi are to find better guides or train your current guide better as they are a crucial part of making the 3 hour drive enjoyable (especially when the animals are tough to find) and not getting engaged by them can make things rather dull.

Rented a car in Nelspruit and drove to the Balule Game Reserve. After driving several km's in the dark down an isolated dirt road through the bush, suddenly we came upon torches and fires lighting the entrance to the Naledi Bushcamp. Standing in the glow was Kjell and his staff, waiting to welcome us for our 5 day visit. What ensued was what can only be described as a pure game safari experience. The accomodations made you feel like you were in Africa but with all the comforts of civilization. A small lodge, we happened to be the only ones there and so there were 4 staff for each of our family. The safari truck was brand new and incredibly comfortable, and Prim and Sidwell did a great job of making sure we saw the big 5 as well as impala, zebra, giraffe, hippos, kudu, waterbuck, steenbok, warthog, and the list goes on. Food was top notch and you can't beat the experience of seeing elephants 30 feet off your deck. We stayed at two other game lodges and this one was by far the best value for a 5-star experience.
