I had a good dinner here the other night though there is no way I could eat like this on a regular basis unless my goal is to gain 100lbs in short order. Tasty home-cooked food, Texas style. Great service, the hostess was also very nice and welcoming.
The coconut shrimp and 'Texas toothpicks' appetizers were fried to perfection. The artichoke heart was lacking something but it, too, was deliciously fried. I couldn't resist and ate two anyway.
I ordered the 8oz fillet, medium-rare. It was certainly on the barely-medium-rare, so keep that in mind when ordering. I cannot fault them for this as I feel they are more accurate in cooking to temp than most. The meat was delicious and very high quality. The cut was thick, 2 inches at least. Another person in my party ordered the same steak medium, and it looked lovely with still a nice pinkish tint to the inside. The flavor was balanced, you could tell it was an old recipe. It reminded me of W. Texas as a kid. The mushrooms are a nice touch, if not just a tad salty- I recommend those when ordering.
Prices were a bit high than what I was expecting for Ruidoso. But overall it was still a treat to eat there. Good authentic atmosphere, too, if they have live music. Sit by the fire (and the longhorn head wall mount), listen to music, eat great steak.
