“Great Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Having been in the steak and seafood restaurant business for 15 years we can be kind of critical of trying a new restaurant. We went into the bar and were greeted immediately by the bartender, she came around from behind the bar to take our order. She actually checked back to see if our drinks were OK! When we were going in for dinner we asked if we needed to cash out but she said no problem we could just add the check to our dinner tab. We paid her anyway because we wanted to leave her a good tip. The waiter was very knowledgeable, the mechanics were perfect and the food was very good. The chef came out of the kitchen to talk to us and make sure everything was to our satisfaction, very impressive. The prices are very reasonable for a steakhouse and we will definitely go back the next time we are in Ruidoso !

“More Training Needed before Prime Time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Customer service can make up for a great deal, and, we might have considered returning for another try at this new restaurant if they at least had better customer service. My husband's medium steak was red in the center; my brother-in-law's inch thick pork steak was literally raw in the middle to the point where he cut around it and left the raw portion on the plate. When brought to the server's attention, she gave a nervous giggle in both cases. Didn't apologize in either case. When my husband said he really wanted his cooked "Medium", she asked, "so, you want it pink?". Sorry, this is supposed to be a Steak and Seafood restaurant!! If the chef can't get the meat done to specifications on their signature dishes...well?? And, if the wait staff isn't better trained to ensure that meals are as ordered and satisfactory, I'd say, step up the training!

“Great Place for Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

This was our 1st trip to Ruidoso and this was a great find for dinner. It is a relatively new place but no doubt it is going to be very popular. It was the only place we had dinner twice in the week we spent there.

The 1st time we had dinner I had the prime rib and it was perfect. Served with a salad, bread, potato and also a vegetable. My wife had the scallops, wonderful and were served with the same sides. Both the 16 oz prime rib and scallops were $23. The 2nd visit my wife again had the scallops but I opted for the 16 oz rib-eye. Whow, have not had a better one!

Service the 1st time could of been better, the 2nd time around the service was great. Thinking maybe the 1st time may of just been getting their help broken in. Additionally, the wine prices are very reasonable and there is a nice bar area should you have to wait for a table. I would definitely make reservations if you are there at a busy time as the place it getting very popular.

This is a place I would recommend to friends as the food and prices are both excellent.

“Excellent choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

This is a brand new restaurant where an Italian restaurant used to be. Normally my husband and I do not choose steak places, but we had tried a lunch there and it was quite tasty. When some friends came to visit, we thought of Ranchers. Each one of us was really pleased with our selections and the portions are generous. The "tobacco" onion rings are excellent though no one seems to know the origin of the "tobacco" description...perhaps the color? Lunch is very reasonable, and of course the prices are higher for evening as well as a different menu. All in all, one of the best places we have found in Ruidoso.

“Could be a nice addition to Ruidoso...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

We ate dinner at The Ranchers a week ago. Based on the exterior of the building, I was expecting a more casual dining experience and lower priced menu items. Prime rib is about the cheapest thing on the dinner menu. Ours was over cooked. My husband ordered his rare and it was far from it! Side salad, baked potato and asparagus were good. The pickled onions, mushrooms and cheese that accompanied the rolls were a nice addition.

Atmosphere is pleasant and the service was fair. Our waitress failed to offer us the ground pepper for the salad. I noticed she did offer it for another table. Also, main course was served only minutes after the large dinner salad. It would have been impossible to have eaten the salad before the prime rib arrived. She seemed to disappear after a "to go" box was requested. It was a weeknight and not particulary crowded so these failures in service seem very unjustified.

The Ranchers needs to step up their service to meet the standards one might expect from an upscale steak house. Meat should be prepared as ordered. With a few corrections in service and quality, The Ranchers has the potential to be a nice addition to dining choices in Ruidoso.
