“Peaceful get away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2010

We stayed 4 nights in the Canyon Cabin (Chipmunk). It is a one room rustic with a small bath (shower) and a kitchenette. The fireplace was wonderful as it got pretty chilly in the evening with the rain we had. The kitchen had all the essentials and a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and small fridge. The cabin was relatively clean and the queen size bed was super comfy. Located in the beautiful upper canyon area, we were a bit suprised how close all the cabins, lodges and resorts are in that area. It was so neat to have deer wandering by our cabin and we heard a bear rustling in the trash but were unable to snap a picture. Grindstone lake was a great fishing area although no one was really catching anything. This is close to the downtown area and a shuttle is available on weekends. We drove and had no difficulty finding parking even on the weekends. The price was great and I liked that nothing else was added on to our bill. If you leave the kitchen tidy they don't make you pay a cleaning fee. There is an older style charcoal grill by the cabin that we used. Would have been nice to have a little nicer grill but we made do. They provide high speed internet at no extra cost as well. It worked well the one time we used it. The manager is a nice lady but doesn't really offer a lot of extra advice. She is pretty business like but not rude really. We did have a light bulb blow and found that house keeping left us one for us to change. Towels were not changed during our stay but then again we didn't ask. A great find was a little dessert spot with great pies and ambiance. Creme de la creme I believe is the name. Also we found the Spirit of the Old West to be the best place for an antique photo shoot. The owners are great and it was lots of fun dressing up in saloon attire. We would definitely stay there again, can't beat it for the price.
