“4 thumbs up!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2009

Inyati was recommended by our travel agent as the options we originally considered weren't available on the days we wanted. Based on the great reviews we found in this site, we booked it.
The place exceeded our expectations. It is so peaceful and relaxing that you hate to leave. In the day, you can see wild animals even in the garden! They just cross the garden and keep going into the wild.
We do not like crowds, so we loved the fact that the lodge has very limited accomodation. The night it was most packed, we had only 5 couples and a family of 3.
Rooms are huge and beautifully decorated, and have everything you may need. Food is amazing. The staff is wonderful. Game viewing is EXCELLENT, especially with guides as experienced as George and Sully. On our very first drive, we saw 4 of the Big 5. Of course, we saw the 5 many times by the end of our stay. Friends of ours who went to Kruger in their car, weren't so lucky. Felines are very elusive and you have better chances to see them if you go to a private reserve, where 4x4's can leave the roads to find them, and you can count on a experienced guide to find them.
If in doubt, do not hesitate and go for Inyati. You will love it.

Oh how we wish that we'd had more than one night, but what a night! It's quite a drive out to the Lodge on a bumpy, dusty road (will look at flying in next time!) but once you get there it is like a beautiful oasis. We arrived just in time for lunch out on the sweeping lawn. The buffet was beautifully presented and tasted even better. After a brief sunbathe by the pool we set off on a night safari with Khimbani & Richard. You could not wish for better guides. Unlike the public areas of the Kruger these guys can take you off-road (not that there's any 'road' as such, just trails). We were rocked about in our Land Rover seats while being thrashed by low branches but we LOVED it, and the rewards were awesome. That night we came across three snoozing female lions with a cub and later followed their male lion through the bush. The evening meal was held in a clearing around two camp fires with lanterns scattered around the area creating a magical atmosphere. Could it get any better? Well yes it could! After our wonderful the meal the waiters and chefs performed African songs and danced around the campfires. It was our last night in Africa and it was a wonderful end to our our holiday.

But wait, there's more! We still had an early morning safari the following day and that too provided us with some incredible moments such as watching a leopard enjoying its breakfast of freshly killed impala.

Our executive room was fabulous and the staff were all so friendly and welcoming. One night was definitely not long enough.

We stayed for four days which was just the right amount of time. Private game lodges are not cheap of course but if you are going to spend time on safari better to go the extra mile and spend more money because it is a very special experience. Now is no the time to go cheap.

We had an absolutely fantastic ranger. After just one day, we had most of the big five seen and after our four days, we could not have asked for more and saw everything from a leopard eating her prey to two lions mating. It really was incredible.

The lodge is very comfortable and seemed more authentically African than the competition - which is why we chose it and it lived up to expectations. The meals outside under an African sky with an open fire were really beautiful.

Indeed all the staff are great there. Tips are pooled at the end. Everything else (with the exception of alcoholic drinks with dinner) is included in the price.

We are not really "group tour" people - and this was my only reservation (pardon the pun). Your meals and safaris are very planned. But for four days, it is not really a problem and there is a turnover of people during that time which is interesting, so it is a small consideration.

We have just returned to polluted Hong Kong from serene Sabi Sands. Our stay at Inyati Private game Reserve was truly exceptional. Firstly the lodge is in true African bush style. Just ten chalets set in wonderful grounds overlooking the river. We stayed in the executive chalet which was spacious having both front and back balconies. Our children stayed in a standard chalet with twin beds - this chalet is very big and actually has a third small bed in it. The chalets are being refurbished to a high standard.
There are game drives in the early morning and the afternoon urning into night. We had the marvellous services of Pete and Nelson. They proved to be exceptional trackers of wild game. We saw the Big Five of course but much more. There was the drama of tracking a lion and his mate all morning and when we finally ran them to ground they strolled just a few feet past us. We found a leopard with its kill up a tree. An elephant charged us. We suddenly discovered a rhino and her month old baby. And so much more..and all thanks to Pete and Nelson.
Our meals were usually taken outside and around a fire. The food was good, standard fare. The breakfast/brunch on return from the morning game drive was very good..eggs cooked to order etc..fresh bread.
The staff were all extrmely friendly especially Hazel on reception.
On top of all this Inyati is great value for money. It is certainly considerably less expensive than many of the surrounding lodges and I would suggest that it probably is as good as them.
FYI we flew direct to the lodge from Joburg Airport using Federal Air. They picked us up from the airport and took us to their private lounge where there are complimentary drinks and snacks. They have an outdoor area as well and is extremely comfortable. We had to wait four hours for our connection and were very pleased to have the use of this facility.
The overall cost of safaris in private game reserves/lodge is costly but believe me they are well worth it.

We chose Inyati Safari Lodge based on the amazing reviews it got for game viewing on a safari specialist website. The photos looked great, and the lodge really did live up to expectations.

We booked the Executive Suite, and it was spacious with a nice layout, four poster bed and huge bathroom with an outdoor shower that opened up into a private area of the park (only beware there might be baboons watching!).

The staff were what made this place truly exceptional - with most of the key team (Keith the manager, Kembhini the safari guide, the head chef etc) all having come from years of experience at the renowned Singita Lodge. The team left to join Inyati as they believed that the experience of game viewing should take centrestage (and not the spas, excessive pampering of guests etc)

Inyati is THE place to come for expert trackers who will hunt down the Big 5 game viewing within hours of your setting out. We saw them all - lions, rhino, buffalo, leopard and elephants within 2 drives with Khembini and tracker Richard. We also saw giraffe, hippo, wild boar... it was a truly unforgettable experience.

Don't come here if you are expecting chic piped-in lounge music or a luxury spa experience. The lodge is lovely and has all the comforts you could require, but the game viewing experience here takes centrestage.

The safari guides take you out for 2 drives daily (5am and 4pm) and the drives will take up most of the day. The vehicles are open-topped land rovers which are perfect in nice weather. There is a neat contraption which allows them to roll a canvas over the car should it begin to rain while on a drive (we were much luckier than the Ulusabe Sands people who got soaked when it rained because there open topped car did not have a shelter that could be easily deployed!)

A nice touch was the brunch they arranged in a tree lodge which overlooked a river where elephants grazed while we dined.

The kitchen staff were also excellent, whipping up feasts which included dining on kudu stew!

Inyati was absolutely incredible, you can be assured of the best possible game-viewing experience staying here.

We had a brilliant stay at Inyati and enjoyed every moment. The view from the terrace was super and so was thegame drive, the food and the hospitality we met.

We will definitely be back.

We spent 4 nights at the Inyati Private game reserve between 22.1.08 - 26.1.08.
We flew into Inyati which was a good opition in my opinion as it saved time and on speaking to other travellers they all encountered problems with the plice stopping them for "speeding" and fining them varying amounts of money or alternatively they could visit the local police station. This upset the travellers obviously as the fnes were for the policemans pocket and not official.
Inyati is the most beautiful place in the most fantastic setting. It is close to the river which always attracts the local animals. The chalets are fantastic, idyllic. Very well equppied and cleaned on a daily basis.
The food was wonderful and very varied. We had two game drives per day. The first starts by being woke at 5am. You meet for a light breakfast and tea / coffee/ juice then you are off on your safari.
We were lucky enought to see the big 5 the first drive.
You then have breakfast on your return. You meet for a light tea at 5pm and then off on the evening game drive. You have sundowner drinks whilst out and then your eveing meal is about 8.30pm.
We took some of the best photos ever. The scenery is spectacular and I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. The staff are great and our ranger George was featured in the National Geographic magazine. He certainly knew his stuff. Our tracker was Solly. Both were excellent at their jobs.
This will go down as one of our favourite holidays.
The animals we saw lions, leopards cheetahs, rhino, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, wilderbeast, birds galore including eagles, vultures, storks, owls. We saw a white impala that has never been seen before.
You must go and see it for yourself it is well worth the money.
