“Not one thing to fault - perfect stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

This is a fairly pointless review, since I'm sure I will only be saying what many before have done - this lodge is second to none, and the staff went out of their way to ensure our trip was excellent.

Martha, our butler looked after us extremely well and the surprise she organised for our honeymoon was amazing (wont go into detail in case it spoils it for others). Andrew our driver was not only the most incredible game spotter I have ever come across with sight like nothing I have ever seen before, he was also extremely knowledgable and also great value when it came to the African dance off one evening!! Patricia was also hugely welcoming to us and added to our great stay.

The food is unreal, I didn't have to eat for 2 days after I left...with wake up flapjacks, then mid-drive snack, breakfast, lunch, afternoon cake, mid-drive snack again, dinner...I think I put on about 10kg...and the food was great quality.

I could probably go on for a while but I won't and just say that in terms of quality game viewing, I saw all the big 5 plus cheetah and feeding lions within the first drive! And was then greeted home by baboons drinking from my pool....

Room Tip: There is only 3 so they are all pretty good!

My wife, son (age 23) and I have just returned from the andBeyond Leadwood Lodge in Sabi Sands. I don't know what the staff could have done to make our stay more perfect! It starts with the greeting committee each time you return to the lodge from the game drives, the attention to detail in the beautiful rooms, the smiling and courteous staff, and the plentiful food and drink. Special mention to a few: Mac, our Ranger, could not have been more engaging, knowledgable, funny and entertaining. He loves his job and his "office", and it shows. Colbert, our tracker, was great. Martha, the "butler", was warm, and made us feel like family. The chefs Sonnyboy and Seena, Chris, and the rest of the staff, well managed by Ncola, were just great!
As for the game drives, we saw amazing sights, leaving nothing to the imagination. Just a great place for a safari.

We have just returned from this amazing lodge, it was our second visit and we have already planned a third. We have been to many lodges and this one is in our top 5. It's a very special place and the staff are amazing, the food delicious, the sightings awesome and the rooms are huge with your own plunge pool.
No young children here which makes it even better, no under 15 I think it is and this adds to the charm, too many times noisy children have broken the peaceful bush silence.
We will return here many times and Mac is an amazing ranger who is very knowledgable and his tracker Corbet is fantastic.
Camp manager also very friendly
It's a beautiful lodge in a beautiful spot
There are only 4 rooms but they only book out the 4 if you take the whole lodge to yourself otherwise they only book out 3 rooms which is awesome as only 6 people in camp.

Room Tip: They all stunning

We are two couples from LA sharing our first safari and definitely the best vacation experience we've ever had. Leadwood was stunningly beautiful -- chic, very large, well-appointed and comfortable individual villas, each with a huge deck and plunge pool overlooking a river bed constantly visited by a myriad of different animals. Service from all was superb -- very warm, very personal.
Thanks to manager Patricia and butler Martha for making us feel so special!
But the best part was the wondrous and abundant animal life-- lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, hippos, buffalo, zebras, hyenas, wild dogs, wildebeests, and much, much more -- coupled with the passion and knowledge of ranger Andrew and fabulous tracker Chris who made each outing a real adventure.

Room Tip: Only 4 suites, all comparable.

After spending five days in Kirkman's camp in the same game reserve, we moved to leadwood lodge. Also here the staff turned out to welcome us. This is a small place with only 4 rooms, so we were appointed our own butler, who showed us the room, well house would be a better description. Enormous place. If I was at one end of the building and my wife at the other we would have to shout to hear each other. Large entry, with a kind of living room, enormous bed room with seperate dressing part, large bathroom with separate toilet. All the rooms with exits by sliding doors to the private deck with 10 meter swimming pool. All overlooking the Sabi river. On arrival we could see 4 elephants across the river, less than 75 meters away. Sometime the lephants come up to the house to drink from the pool, unfortunately not while we were there. A short time after, a leopard chased the elephants away. The next morning a big male lion showed up. Food was excellent and served either on our own deck (lunch) or at the main lodge, where we had a oil lamp dinner on a tree deck all for ourselves.

This was a fantastic place for our honeymoon. The lodge is beyond luxury in the middle of the bush. The bungalows are awesome and your private deck, infinity pool and outdoor shower overlook the animals. Service is top-notch and they truly go the extra mile to ensure all your needs are met. I would go back in an instant.

Room Tip: Lock your doors, as the monkeys may come in for some mixed nuts!

We are safari addicts, and this was our third visit to Leadwood and once again proved why it is our favourite place to stay in Kruger (although Ngala Tented runs a close second). It is impossible to find fault with this place from the accommodation (spacious and luxurious, but not over the top), to the staff (like old friends), the food (too much though!) and the game viewing (unbelievably good). We were met by our old friend Martha who has looked after us on each visit and is just the best and the Manager Patricia who was lovely and efficient - nothing was too much trouble. The food prepared by SInah and Sunnyboy was delicious. Like many who have stayed at Leadwood, our ranger and tracker on both previous visits had been Mac and Colbert, so I was a little disappointed when I heard they were on leave during our visit. BUT William and Prince were absolutely wonderful. Not only a great team who ensured all our drives and sightings were unbelievably good, but fantastic company as well. Will's knowledge and professionalism were only surpassed by his enthusiasm and obvious love of the job, and that is something special. Coming from Australia, three visits is a lot to one place however even with the vast array of other great safari camps and places , I would return to Leadwood in a heartbeat.
