“UNFORGETTABLE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Our recent 3 nights at Chitwa Chitwa were magical. From the time we arrived till the moment we left, our every need was taken care of with service that exceeded all expectations. Great attention to detail were given to every aspect of our stay, from the rooms, to the game drives and not forgetting the food. Our room was spacious, tastefully fitted and had a private deck. Each dinner setting was different and we enjoyed the breathtaking décor, both indoors and outdoors.

Gratitude to the managers, Claudia, Leon and Stefan for their warmth and hospitality. We truly appreciated them going out of their way to accommodate us for our last morning game drive and making special arrangements for us to catch our flight that same morning! We saw the Big 5 and many more games, thanks to Hali, our very knowledgeable and entertaining ranger with an uncanny ability to spot and identify the smallest game from a distance. The additional insights Hali provided on the wildlife and plants added to the excitement of each sighting.

We highly recommend Chitwa Chitwa to those seeking a luxurious safari holiday. We found it very, very hard to say goodbye.

Our family and friends (9 in total including a10 and 13 year old and a 70+ grandmother) spent the most wonderful 4 night stay at Chitwa none of us wanted it to end. Our guide Rexon and tracker Andraus ( sorry boys if wrong spelling ) were fantastic so good at getting us in the right place every day to see the best animals. Rexon was so passionate about conservation, his family and village. Our host Leon and Claudia were great very helpful and informative. They were there to greet us morning, noon and night. Victory and all the staff were fantastic excellent food and service. We stayed in Chitwa House which was beautiful comfortable and with a fantastic view. I would go back tomorrow.

I've just returned from a 5 night stay at Chitwa Chitwa. Unbelievable. The setting, the rooms, the staff, the service, the food and last but by no means least the game drives were all amazing and surpassed expectations. It was a truly special experience.

Thank you to Claudia and Leon who made us feel so welcome and at home and were terrific hosts. It was great to meet you guys. A special thank you to Hali, our ranger, whose encyclopaedic knowledge of the wildlife was exceptional and left me in awe. His anecdotes were always interesting and entertaining and there did not seem to be anything he did not know! Also a thank you to Victory for her superb attention to detail in dealing with our beverage needs!

I could go on.... but seeing is believing and I would strongly recommend this place and experience to anyone considering a Safari holiday and who wants some comfort and luxury as well as spectacular game sightings.

Our recent stay 5 night stay at Chitwa Chitwa in the Charlsy suite (my husband and I with our adult daughter) was exceptional. Both the location and eclectic decor make this venue pretty unique. However, what really made this trip stand out for us was the friendly professionalism all staff showed. A very warm and professional welcome from Claudia and Leon, the General Managers was reflected in all the staff we encountered. Of particular note was Hali, our game drive guide whose knowledge of the Sabi Sands area and its wildlife was truly exceptional. He also showed a wonderful warm personality and great sense of humour. Also worthy of a special mention was Victory our sommelier and waitress who turned her hand to massages when the spa therapist had a few days off. The food was also varied, fresh, well cooked and presented. We have been to many private game reserves, including Singita and would rate Chitwa as better value for money. We were very sad to leave and would like to go again soon!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the watering hole. We had the Charlsy Suite and it certainly has the best...

We went here on our honeymoon it was the best part of our trip. After a day of traveling by plane we had our guide waiting to take us on our safari for that afternoon. All the rangers, especially Stefan, know a great amount about the land make it an amazing safari experience. Claudia, Leon, and the staff were so accommodating as well. There are 10+ suites but they still manage to make it very intimate.

We were a big group of 3 families from SE Asia. We were grumbling all the way about the 3 hour drive from airport but when we arrived there, we knew the journey was more than well paid. Our stay in Chitwa Chitwa was a wonderful experience. The Reserve is tastefully and artistically decorated yet very practical and comfortable. Our family stayed in the Chitwa Suite which is a generously appointed 2 bed room suite with a pool. When you read your book in the afternoon by the poolside, you would hear birds singing and the deers were not shy to come near you.The staff is an absolute asset of the Reserve and attended to all our needs! You could feel that they planned with their hearts to make your stay memorable. Food was fine and the collection of South African wines in the cellar very interesting. Safari experience was simply unforgettable. Our Ranger Surprise (his name) is professional and dedicated. Thanks to him we saw all big five and beyond! 14 elephants drinking water together and 7 lions in a go! Can you believe it?

If you are contemplating where to safari in South Africa, Chitwa Chitwa is where you need to go. My husband and I spent four nights at the lodge, and it was incredible! There's so much to say, I have to break it down:

All the staff at Chitwa are fantastic, and will do absolutely anything to make your stay more amazing than you though possible. Hali was our very knowledgeable ranger and Moses did a fantastic job tracking during our stay. Both gentlemen are full of information and don't just tell you about the animals you see but the role that the animals play in their culture. We had the privilege of sitting next to Surprise during dinner in the Boma one night and had a wonderful time listening to his stories. Dihno is an incredible barman, and if he ever gives you a suggestion of something to try- listen to him because it will be amazing.

The food was beyond delicious! There was not a single thing they served that I did not enjoy, and you will never go hungry. Also, you are given options for each course of each meal so you'll always find something to satisfy you. My favorite was the opportunity to try food that we don't have in the States, like kudu and springbok. Breakfast was always outside overlooking the water and it seemed like the elephants made an appearance every morning. We enjoyed quite a surprise the first night as we got to be the first couple ever to dinner eat in the wine cellar.

The accomodations are breathtaking! We were lucky enough to stay Suite 11, which is the very last lodge and made for awesome animal sightings. (if you find Chitwa on Facebook, you'll see a picture that was posted of a leopard sitting on one of the room decks... that would be suite 11!) While we didn't have any cats sitting on our deck, we did discover a cheetah with its kill about 50 meters from our room. Walking the path to our room after morning safari we encountered some inyala and a bushbuck mom and baby. The main lodge is innocuous and does not detract from the beautiful African landscape. The facility is beautiful, clean, and chic.

The animals!!! The reason you go on a safari. We saw so many amazing things while on safari, thanks in part to Hali and Moses and their awesome abilities, but also to mother nature's cooperation. We saw everything- the Big 5 multiple times and even more amazingly what we dubbed the 'elusive 2'. Wild dog and a cheetah! We came across the pack of wild dogs on an evening safari right when they were beginning to hunt. I can't even begin to describe what an adrenaline rush it was to follow this chase. On our third day we found ourselves in the middle of a herd of elephants that were passing by the opposite side of the lake when a ranger in a different Chitwa truck spotted the cheetah. It was a young male who had caught a young kudu- which explained the commotion we heard earlier in the afternoon. Because of the cooler weather the meat didn't spoil as quickly so the scavengers stayed away and we were able to visit the cheetah for a couple days. The bush walks were spectacular and so worth it! In fact, because of a bush walk- our ranger spotted some fresh drag marks that we checked back on during the evening safari where we saw the coolest thing... The drag marks were made by a leopard that had killed a male impala, and that night we got to see the leopard attempt to 'tree' his dinner, or get it off the ground and away from scavengers. Unfortunately, the leopard and his dinner didn't make it and was too exhausted to try again, but it was amazing to watch.

I could go on and on about what we saw, but that experience is going to be different for everyone- but what will remain the same is the superb hospitality, amazing accomodations, and beautiful people that will make you want to go back!

Room Tip: Suite 11 was spectacular. If you are looking to have a romantic dinner don't be afraid to ask fo...
