“The Ultimate!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

We finished our 12 day safari with 4 nights at Exeter. What an amazing location...our unit was right on the Sand River. BEAUTIFUL! From our deck we watched elephants, crocodiles, cape buffalo, nyala, impala, monkeys, and many different birds. Andrew (our ranger) and Jack and Chris (our trackers) were outstanding! Game drives were exciting and informative. Return (our butler) was very pleasant and attentive...he catered to our every need. Managers Lesha and Isaac made us feel right at home. Thanks to everyone at Exeter...we will be back!

I cannot recommend Exeter River Lodge enough. We had an amazing time, the staff, the rooms, the game drives, the food..... Everything was perfect. Our ranger, Mac, was brilliant, he went out of his way (as did all of the staff) to make this a wonderful experience for us and our children. the children both took a turn at sitting 'up front' with him, which they loved. Certainly the best place we have ever stayed.

Words can't describe how fantastic my stay at exeter river lodge was.

Everything was 100% perfect and I wouldn't change/improve a thing about this hotel because everything was outstanding.

ROOMS: 5 stars. By far the best place i stayed at while in Africa and also world wide. The private rooms feel like a home. Heated floors were incredible and made the early wake ups extremely comfortable. The beds were perfect, the shower was amazing and the bath was awesome. You can watch animals eating outside your room all day even while you shower or bath. The mini bar is refilled everyday and stocked with lots of yummy beverages both alcoholic and non alcoholic. The plunge pool is amazing and even in the winter it made for some entertainment and daring adventure, would be very refreshing in summer. The pool is also fabulous as you can watch animals while you swim. The dining area is amazing. A view of a river and all the natural wildlife roaming around. We saw elephants, buffalo and a range of antelope while eating our meals along with monkeys around the camp. You feel like you are in Africa which is awesome. The fire at night is an extra nice addition.

Safari: OH MY GOD. Words can't describe and photos/ videos don't show how amazing the safari drives are. I had been to chobe and thought safari was amazing until I stayed in Krugar, that was when I experienced a whole new level of incredible. The animals are amazing and every day is a new location and new animals seen. I was lucky enough to go on 8 safaris and each of them were amazing. The guide (Craig) was awesome. Extremely knowledgeable and fun to spend the early mornings and evenings with. He taught us heaps and showed us a huge variety of animals. His driving was amazing, so good you can't believe the terrain you drive through. He would get you within meters of any animal, making amazing photos and videos. You can't imagine how incredible the experience is until you have done it yourself. Our tracker was also incredible (Phickson). He was extremely knowledgeable and would know any animal from the foot prints and find where that animal was. He too was also very nice and fun. The refreshments while on safari add extra specialness to the drives. It was an experience of a lifetime and felt like I was David Attenborough.

STAFF: The best. Not just wonderful workers, but also lovely, friendly, genuine people. They became friends rather than staff and would go out of their way to make every moment of every day perfect. The rooms were always spotless and beds made perfectly, no request was too big. The food waitressing service was always pleasant and of an extremely high standard. The safari staff were amazing as mentioned.

FOOD: Delicious. Three amazing meals a day. Breakfast is a small buffet with fresh fruit, yoghurt, muesli and cereals, along with a cooked breakfast everyday. Lunch was always a new yummy selection of foods, usually a collection of smallish dishes, such as dips, mini burgers, and amazing salads to choose from. Dinner was three courses and always of the highest standard. I travelled with a vegetarian and the chef would make special meals of equal quality every day without any fuss or mistakes. We were even lucky enough to have a breakfast in the bush one morning. We came around the corner on one of the drives and greeted by long tables under a huge tree. This was extra special and the food was delicious.

OVERALL: 100% perfection, 5 stars and overall 11 out of 10.
I would recommend exeter river to anyone. From families, to honeymooners, groups of friends to the elderly. I will definitely be returning in the future and wish everyone could experience the trip I had which was amazing and something I will never forget.
I highly recommend exeter river lodge, you won't be disappointed :D

We have stayed in many properties all over the world and nothing compares to the magical little touches that made this so special. Fantastic accommodations, unparalleled setting, awesome games drive, stupendous food and, above all, amazing service......I cannot say enought about how worth it this place is. Stop everything you are doing and get here!

Probably the best and most luxurious game viewing available. Great food, great staff and great game viewing. Everything was lovely without being over the top ridiculous. Under floor heating makes the rooms comfortable even with early morning starts. My only suggestion would be that they need to clean the bathrooms for the lounge/dining area more frequently.

I can't say enough about this phenomenal property. Our room was luxurious and peaceful. The game viewing, including our wonderful ranger and guide, exceeded all expectations. The food was incredible - we did not eat the same thing twice and gained at least 5 lbs each during our 5-night stay at Exeter (in fact, the only downside here might be the lack of exercise facilities). And the staff was wonderful - their hospitality and kindness made our stay truly special. I could stay here forever, and will be back again as soon as humanly possible!
