“Life Changing - Best Vacation Experience in our lives”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2012

My wife and I did not know what to expect when booking our trip to Londolozi. Our friend had stayed at Ngala Tent Camp and had heard from several people that Londolozi was much better. We can't say anything about Ngala as we did not stay there or ever plan to because we fell in love with Londolozi. From the moment you arrive, via plane in our case, you realize how amazing the place is and how genuine and knowledgeable the people are. On the drive from the airstrip to the lodge we stopped three times as our guide pointed out and told us about a beautiful eagle perched in a tree, then about the hippo in the water hole a few meters down the road, then about some impala and wildebeests a few meters later. We arrived at the camp to a wonderful greeting, including a very nice champagne, by the people from the lodge. My wife is a high end interiors designer and we loved the comfort and design of the room. It was simply beautiful - it felt simultaneously decadent and inviting without trying too hard (a very difficult thing to achieve). Our guide and tracker, Melvin and Milton, were phenomenal. Not only did we see all of the big five (repeatedly) but they so knowledgeable about the dynamics of the various animals as well as their history at Londolozi (prides of lions, leopards, etc). It wasn't only the big five but EVERYTHING. Snakes, turtles, spiders, birds, stars seeing the animals in the wild would have been enough but having Melvin and Milton go so much deeper into their stories made the experience so spectacular. I won't even get into the services or the surprise white linen cloth and steel lanterns plus fantastic wines, cheeses, appetizers next to a pond containing 10+ hippos and how "Out of Africa" it seemed or the warm welcome we received from everyone during our entire stay. Melvin drove us to the airstrip to leave and both of us were very emotional as we left (it was as if we had a "crush" on this place and the people we met). This was by far the best vacation experience in our life and despite the cost we think it was a bargain for what we took away from our time at Londolozi. We can't wait to return.

By the way, look at the blog site. It is amazing and something that you will not find on any of the other sites. It shows their care and approach.

Room Tip: We stayed in Tree Camp and loved room #6

Dear HudsonMurphy,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a fabulous review of your stay at Londolozi. We will be sure to pass it onto Melvin, Milton and all the staff at Tree who will be pleased to receive such a great review.

It is incredibly reassuring to hear you enjoyed the game viewing, storytelling and most importantly, the people, during your stay. It is what we pride ourselves on and love to give you as our guest. We are also glad that your wife, as a high end interiors designer, loved the comfort and design of the room.

We really look forward to seeing you back at Londolozi in the very near future and, most definitely, on our blog until then.

Much love,

The Londolozi family

All my life, I have wanted to go on safari, travel in the bush, see the animals up close and personal-Lindolozi Game Reserve in Sabi Sands gave me and my family this opportunity and more.
Known for their Leopards-even when you open up their web site, the first thing that you hear and see are, "The leopards of Londolozi", you are enthralled, excited, inspired.

Our headquarters for 4 days, was "Tree Camp". An absolutely beautiful, updated, chic accommodation which consisted of a living room-all glass enclosed. A master bedroom- all dressed in white, dressing room, and huge bath/shower room. The facilities could have easily accommodated 3 families. Outfitted in the finest furniture, furnishings, and fabrics. As an interior designer, I could certainly appreciate the design and effort placed on making this experience one to remember.

Every morning, prior to heading out in the bush (note: 5:00am), coffee was brought to our room on silver service. We were then escorted to the main lodge where we met up with our guide for a 4 hour bush experience-animals, birds, landscape, and stories. We returned back to camp exhausted, excited from what we had just experienced, wanting more, and hungry. We immediately washed up and headed back to the main lodge for breakfast-which was an overwhelming buffet. Placed before us was everything and anything you could have possibly wanted. We sat out on the open deck and as we gobbled down our food-bush hunting is really quite exhausting and you work up a good appetite-the elephants came sauntering by. Out on the open deck we could also hear the sounds of lions calling to one another.

As the day progressed, we relaxed in our room-read, showered, and just enjoyed the scenery. Lunch was well presented-again a buffet of all you could eat. 4:00 pm time to head out into the bush again for the evening experience. Returning at 8:00 pm, our day was full of excitement. We couldn't wait for the following morning when the process of heading out into the bush and the day's schedule was repeated.

The animals are all there in the bush for you to see and experience. The leopards literally walked close besides our vehicle and I could have, if I had dared, put out my hand to pet the spots. The elephants, hippos, wharthogs, rhinos, impalas, giraffes, wild dogs-ALL THE ANIMALS, not only the big 5 were viewed up close and personal.

The staff was on top of everything. Whatever we requested, it was received in record time.
The facilities are not only clean, but very stylish. If you want to rough it in a tent, this camp is not for you. The food is good-not gourmet, but very appetizing and let me tell you, you are hungry after each bush adventure.

Take a look at my photos of Londolozi, the animals, the bush. If you want to read more about Londolozi, they write a blog complete with pictures. This will give you some indication of their dedication to you-a guest, the animals, the CAMP, and the people of South Africa.

You want to experience the bush firsthand, see the animals up close and personal, enjoy your lodging and the people of South Africa, then LONDOLOZI should be experienced and enjoyed.

Room Tip: While all the rooms are perfectly dressed, I prefer a room that is close to the main lodge.

We spent four days in Londolozi, in tree camp, as part of our honeymoon --- it truly was one of the most incredible experiences. Everything was top-notch, from the service, to the lodgings, the fantastic animals, and the incredible staff. Tom, our guide, taught us so much, and along with our tracker, Jerry, the two of them were able to find every animal -- we saw the big 5 nearly every day! The food was delicious, the rooms gorgeous, and everything couldn't have been more perfect. We are recommending Londolozi to all our friends and family, and to anyone else who is really looking for an experience of a lifetime.

Christmas in the bush, can there be something better?
It is not the traditional Christmas tree, there is no snow and it is not cold, there is only the warmth and comfort of the bush and the lodge. I had been on Lonodlozi before, but not on Christmas and I was expecting magic. And well, we got magic. Not only the comfortable luxury rooms, the incredible sightings, the excellent ranger, the thoughtful staff reading our minds, no it was more. Christmas Eve was arranged so lovely, thoughtful and charming with probably lots of hours work put into the decoration and the extremely delicious food. It was fantastic and I can recommend Christmas on Londolozi as a present to yourself.

We stayed at the Granite Suites for three nights in January 2012. What an absolutely fantastic experience! I actually teared up when we flew away as it was such a special time and I knew I was going to miss it.

We were booked in the #1 lodge and were not disappointed. Everything is so modern and tastefully decorated that we forgot we were in the bush. After every morning game drive, we would come back and enjoy the plunge pool along with the river view. Plus, we got to see impala, monkeys and elephant right from our suite!

The game drives were extraordinary due to Doyle and Lucky's expertise. We saw the "Big 5" almost every time we went out on a drive. Plus the highlights were seeing two "kills" by a pride of lions and by a pack of wild dogs. It was unreal and fascinating to be there from the beginning of the hunt to the devouring of the kill. It was a pleasure being driven by Doyle and we enjoyed his company immensely.

Finally, our experience was only enhanced by the special treatment we received during our stay. The camp manager, Kate, was awesome! On our second day, she surprised us with a private lunch in a treehouse along the river. The food was excellent and we got to share it with the water buffalo that were bathing at the river.

The second night, Kate had more surprises. When we returned from our game drive and arrived at our lodge, there were rose petals leading through the suite to the back deck which was flooded with candles and gas lanterns. It was a beautiful and romantic setting. She even drew our outdoor bubble bath and placed champagne by the tub. Finally, they brought our dinner to us course by course and we enjoyed a candlelit meal alone. When we were finished Kate had the forethought to place my boyfriend's favorite cigar on the side table for him to enjoy after the meal. Stunning!

The last night, we arrived from the game drive and this time the parking area was flooded with gas lanterns. We had the pleasure of enjoying a traditional "Braai" or bbq. The food and wine were delicious and this is when I discovered ostrich is better than steak. During the meal, we heard lions roaring and the sound of an animal being killed. We decided that we should go check it out, so we jumped up with Doyle and Kate, grabbed a vehicle and a bottle of wine and drove around searching for the "kill". Though we were not successful, it was an extraordinary experience and a definite highlight.

We can not say enough about the Londolozi Granite Suites. It was the trip of a lifetime in every way and the staff just made it that much more special.

A stay at Londolozi leaves its marks for a lifetime! Experiencing the wildlife in a very moving way, combined with the excellent facilities and services at the Varty Camp: we did not want to leave this place. We could only leave promising ourselves to be back! We are well travelled and rather spoiled as well, but Londolozi topped most of our experiences at many of the best facilities around the world. And if you decide to go: ask for Talley as your Ranger and Freddy as your Tracker. The two make the safari experience wonderful. Thank you. We will be back!
