I have lived in Rio Rancho for 20 years and my husband and I often lament the lack of restaurants and bars up here where we can go to have quiet drinks and a GOOD dinner in a casual environment. We've finally found a place in Rio Rancho that has a nice bar, good food and a friendly staff! By "good" food, I mean it is not mass-produced (aka Chilis or Applebees), it is freshly prepared, and nicely presented without costing an arm and a leg. The Toro bar is small and friendly - it has about 10 seats at the bar, several small tables and an open area with couches and comfy seats. It also has several televisions playing various sporting events (sound off), and music is playing loud enough to be heard in the background, but not so loud that you can't have a conversation. The bartenders and staff are personable and attentive (something you don't see in bigger, busier bars). After a long week (or long day) at work, this is a perfect place to unwind and have a conversation over drinks or dinner. There is a small outdoor patio, but it has been too windy lately to enjoy that. They also offer live music some evenings, but usually at 8 or 9 pm. Last night, we had two beers, a soda, fish tacos and the chef's special - stuffed pork loin with veggies and mashed/baked sweet potatoes, all for $28.
