“Good value, clean rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

This motel is a very good deal. The rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is also far enough off the highway so you don't hear the traffic noise from the highway. If you are looking for a reasonable place to stay, this is it! Spend a few days and go visit Sugarite Canyon State Park! You won't be sorry you did!

Very quaint, park next to your room door, which is very helpful for unloading and heading out in the morning. The steam shower was priceless! Gets intensely hot and steamy. :). The photos in the motel hallway are a snapshot of the beginning of the motel. The manager Connie, is lovely, she is a Raton native. The beds are very comfortable, and the sheets are extremely soft. Would prefer to stay here with all the history and supporting the local economy, than stay at a large chain. :)

My friend said he had stayed at a wonderful motel on Melody Lane in Raton, New Mexico. This was a great stopping off place in the beautiful mountains in northern New Mexico near the Colorado border. We were welcomed by Connie, the friendly front desk person at Budget Host. She made us feel at home after a long day of driving. I was amazed at the size of our room and the great level of comfort. Everything was super clean and the ceiling goes upward on an angle giving the room a unique feel. Melody Lane looks like it has been around for awhile and the new owners want to keep up the high standards. This motel is a hidden gem in the mountains.

Room Tip: We liked having a king bed room.

$62.12 total including taxes. Coming from Dalhart, TX, cross over I-25. Turn right on 2nd street. Go a mile or two. It is on the left. You can go less than a mile north and get on I-25 going north or south.

The room was clean, but it would impress no one that you stayed there. It is an old motel from the outside. The breakfast that was included was OK, but not great. The steam shower worked great, I turned it off quickly, because it got really warm, like in a sauna. The lady manager was friendly and helpful. It had cable TV and WiFi.

Room Tip: We were in room 28. The walls were a little thin (heard neighbors briefly). It was non-smoking and...

We went up last weekend with plans to camp in Raton, however we were rained out. So, we needed to find a motel that would accommodate all three of our groups and our 4 dogs. The Budget Host popped up as highly rated, inexpensive, and pet friendly when I did a quick search on my phone. When we showed up, the staff was very very friendly and eager to help. Our room was spacious and super clean, and the common areas were very well kept as well. We enjoyed free toast, muffins, coffee, and cereal the next morning, as well as the steam shower and the large vanity area. It was also nice to be close to the main drag with access to restaurants like BBQ Elevated (which was also delightful). We love to camp in Raton, and if we ever get rained out again, the Budget Host will be our Plan B.

I stayed at this motor inn before in 2012. Had an excellent experience. It was managed by a very accommodating host named Tim. Rooms were clean and a very good value. I had recommended this Motel to many people.
I understand these days you get what you pay for. I have traveled the world, stayed in every type of accommodation. Never have I been so offended to write a review of anything.
I stayed for 4 nights Aug. of 2013. The management staff and cleaning staff at the Budget Inn in 2013 is terrible. Room is not clean (I cannot get myself to share some of the things I witnessed, sorry). The Staff is inexperienced and is not accustom to what the majority of Americans expect from even a low budget motel!!
When traveling with heavy or large amounts of gear it is very nice to have your vehicle so close to the room. This is the nicest thing I can say about this motel in 2013 under the new management staff.
I will not return under the new management.

Room Tip: Choose a different Motel
