If you are in or around the area, and you have a love or interest in history then this is well worth your time! The first stop is the cultural center, which is quite nice and very informative. Our guide was very well versed in the long history of sky city and the culture of the acomas. He was able to field any and all questions that were asked of him by our group. Plus he had a great sense of humour! The big bonus on this historical trek was that the views from atop the mesa were incredible! This could have been just a scenic tour!
One note: in my travels I have noticed many times that native peoples aren't always the friendliest to outsiders, except tour guides or merchants. But this wasn't the case in Sky City. We got caught outside in a driving rain storm with 40mph straight winds with no place to take cover. (First rain in 4 yrs) My family and I broke off of the group and ducked into an alley to get out of the wind. Moments later a member of the Acoma tribe who had a ancestral home there invited us in to take shelter. She offered us food and water and shared the history of her family! When the storm subsided our guide found us and our tour continued!
It was a great time and a wonderful adventure!
