We went there thinking that we would have a good time.
Upon knocking on the door the male host barely let me in, & didn't seem to know who I was when I told him my name. He neither greeted me, welcomed me, nor gave me anything that resembled a smile.
The place was beautiful, however if we thought that we were going to be warm there we were sourly mistaken. The fireplace was on a timer for I think it was 1 1/2 hr, or 90 minutes, & my husband had to get up every 90 min. if we were going to get anything that felt like warmth. There was no extra blanket to be seen, & way too late to ask for one.
So we got up the next morning, & had a wonderful breakfast of homemade waffles, however I had told them that I was a diabetic, & was allergic to pork products, & quess what, there was nothing else to eat, like eggs, but carbs.
So we thanked them for breakfast, as we are polite, & made ready to go on a day trip, making sure I had some protein ASAP!
When we returned, my husband noticed that the 1 bedspread had been changed. Of course this made no sense. Why would they come into our room at all, especailly if we were going to stay 2 nights? My husband had to go back to get something when we were ready to leave on our day trip, & now told me that our door was wide open, & at this time asked me if I had left it open, & I said no. So we figured that when he went back to get something, he/she ran right back out of the room, & left the door wide open as they didn't have time to lock it again, & my husband would have noticed if the bed was striped.
So we started looking around the room, & they had moved my purse, so I looked to see if everything was in it, & everything was..They had put out fresh towels, & completely striped the bed, & remade it, & still no extra blanket anywhere! No one anywhere ever gives anyone fresh towels, especially when we live in a desert, & water is sometimes scarse, & could be expensive.
Apparently the host/s, as soon as we appeared to be gone on our trip immediately unlocked our door, & proceeded into our room with no permission from us by either asking if we needed our room attended to, or us asking them to attend to it. So why were they in our room?
I have fibromyalgia, & needed to soak & had already started a bath when we returned. I was getting more, & more angry that someone had come into our room uninvited, so I stoppe the wate, drained the tub, we packed up our things, I wrote a note to the affect that we have never, & I mean never had anyone come into our room uninvited no matter where we have stayed, B & B's, hotels, motels, timeshares etc., NEVER! I went out to my car, picked up my check book, figured out the bill by memory of the total, as we were suppose to stay 2 days, wrote out the note, filled out the check, left it on the newly made bed, along with the key, left the BR door wide open, left the outside door unlocked, for an obvious reason...no key. We got the HELL out of there, & never looked back.
I still can not figure out why we paid them anything. However we are honest, & we had our 1 night of B & B. A great anniversary!
These people were just not friendly, hardly cracked a smile, & were only engaging when neccessary! In fact I had gotten the creeps while in the room long before my husband arrived. I said to him there is something weird here. He knows to trust what I am saying through experience, & having known each other since "95"!
I had learned during a brief conversation that he the host was X military, & that they had built this home/B & B for the purpose of starting a B & B. I had noticed something that was screwed onto the wall early on. It was a silver sort of a box that was cut out like lace right by our BR overhead light switch. There was no way to see into it, & we still wonder if there was a way to see out of it...creepy?

#1. This guest stayed with us on April 30, 2010, not in August 2010. Our fireplaces are not operational in the summer months when the AC is on.
#2. Blankets: During this guest's stay (April), our fireplaces are still operational and we have a wool blanket plus a lighter weight fleece blanket on the beds in each room. There is an additional throw in each room. This guest did not comment on the blanket or ask for an additional blanket in the morning. This would have been a simple request, and we would have provided it.
#3. Breakfast: When reservations are made, we always ask everyone specifically if there are any dietary restrictions or food allergies. This guest responded that she did not eat meat, so we prepared vegetarian breakfast patties as part of her breakfast. There was no mention of being diabetic or allergic to pork, which she wasn't served.
#4. Room Service: Our welcome letter, which is laminated and prominently displayed on the bedside table, clearly states that we provide daily basic housekeeping (make the bed, empty waste cans, etc.) unless the guest tells us not to do this. She did not. We feel this is pretty standard, whether you are staying at a B&B or at a hotel.
#5. Towels: We are especially aware of water usage in our high desert area. When we do our basic housekeeping to a guest's room, we fluff and refold and rehang towels. We only replace sheets and towels midway through stays of 6 days or longer, and we explain this to our longer staying guests. This guest was staying for 2 nights.
#6. The Box on the Wall: This is a Southwestern-style, decorative punched tin box that holds dried flowers!
#7. What this guest did not mention: She was an early check-in, with her husband arriving after work and after midnight. We were awakened around 2 AM when the smoke detector went off in her room. When we knocked on her door, she said everything was OK. That morning when we did our basic housekeeping in the room, it strongly smelled of cigarette smoke! Clearly against our No Smoking Policy stated on the bedside welcome letter and also on our web site!!
We were actually relieved when these guests departed early and did not spend the second night.
