“Pet Friendly & Relaxing Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

We, my husband and myself, truly enjoyed our stay at Bear Creek cabins last weekend. We were looking to explore the area with our two Siberian Huskies. Our huskies are from a rescue and although leash and crate trained, are still learning to be pets so most things still scare them. With that said, an average hotel even with a pet policy would not work so we researched several cabins in the area. Although many accepted pets, Bear Creek Cabins appeared to be the most pet friendly. They lived up to our expectations. We stayed in Cabin 8 which even had a fenced in dog run off a little path behind it. The cabin was rustic and worked well for us. Daniel was very understanding our of needs and even suggested a path across from the cabins that was a nice walk with the dogs. We enjoyed the downstairs porch in the evenings and it was large enough to accommodate us and our dogs. All the cabins are surrounded by tall pines which created a great relaxing retreat. My only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer. But we'll be back

Excellent place to be. Very friendly service. Excellent rooms. Silence...
If you've to work in Silver or surrounding mines: stay here. Especially if you need to stay longer. Refreshes your mind. You can relax in your "own home" sitting on a chair outside on the terrace. Night's are silent and dark. Mornings are great with the pine smell. Hiking trails all around. Silver City and its shops are within 15min drive.

Why then only 4 points: Because the Wifi is not stable and very weak. That's the only critics - from a guy beeing on a business trip. Rooms are quite dark. BUT: that shouldn't bother for a holiday trip.

PS: i just wonder why i did not see any cyclists or bikers staying here. The curved roads into Gila forest are awsome. For cyclists it'll be just perfect. Nice roads and elevated level training.

Room Tip: If you need emails (poor you): ask reception for cabin with best wifi connection.

The Bear Creek Motel & Cabins are parked among the pine trees of the Gila National Forest in Pinos Altos New Mexico.

Make no mistake, these are not luxury digs, but they are perfectly adequate rooms. The wood cabins are listed as "Pet Friendly and are equiped with Wi-Fi, although it was a very weak signal while we were there. Cell phone service is equally spotty, but you're on vacation, so who cares!

Our cabin was 2-story, with beds up stairs and down. Fireplace, Satelite TV, stove, small fridge, and minimal cookware, dishes, & glassware were included, all for about $155 per night once you included all the usual taxes. The famous Buckhorn Saloon was less than half a mile away, and Silver City, home of Billy the Kid, as only about 8 miles down the road. If you don't want to use the kitchinette, Silver City has all the usual fast food spots.

The setting for these cabins, 6,000 feet up n the Gila forest is what makes them so special. Although it was mid August, we were never hot, and bird watching from our very nice porch was comfortable throughout the day. The area abounds with scenic drives and many bird watching opportunities. The area around the cabins was loaded with Acorn Woodpeckers, Mexican Jays, Hummingbirds, Nuthatches, and a lot of others we couldn't identify. The owners were very friendly, and we look forward to returning next summer to escape the Central Texas heat..

They have a website loaded with pictures: www.bearcreekcabins.com.

Consisting of just 15 cabins (a word that undersells these two story constructions) set in beautiful woodland, Bear Creek is probably the nicest place we've ever stayed. Outside there's a small terrace with table and BBQ; downstairs there's a bathroom and living room (with cooker rings and a fridge in the corner; others have more sophisticated kitchen equipment); and upstairs there's a beautiful bedroom with outside terrace offering superb views,

We'd booked for two nights, extended to a 3rd and wished we'd had time to stay there a week. The family that runs the site are friendly, welcoming and helpful - overall I can't recommend this highly enough.

Room Tip: Ring and ask!

If you want to stay near Silver City/ Gila Cliff Dwellings, there´s no alternative to Bear Creek Motel and Cabins. Set above Silver City in a Pine forest these cabins provide stylish, romantic and spacious rooms, the patio with barbecue and additional balcony garuantee sun or shadow as you prefer. Staying here for the second time we still consider this place as one of the best cabins we ever had. If you have the chance to stay there, don´t miss the Buckhorn Saloon, which is in walking distance.
Thank you David for your running one of the best motels in the States!

We weren't looking to stay here. We'd just planned to lay over in Silver City on our way elsewhere, but couldn't find a reasonably-priced lodging in the area on the usual search sites. Our daughter, something of an internet expert , found Bear Creek Motel and Cabins for us, about 7 miles north on NM 15. What good luck! The cabins are incredibly well appointed and beautiful! As I type this I'm in the sitting room, in front of the wood stove with a warm fire burning, having just finished a wonderful mean cooked in the efficiency kitchen.

Our cabin - there are 12, along with a motel - consists of a sitting room (with kitchenette) and bathroom on the first floor. Entry is via a covered deck with a picnic table and grille overlooking snow-covered mountains and beautiful Ponderosa pines and junipers. A well-placed bird feeder was covered this morning with sparrows and a woodpecker! The sitting room has a large couch and overstuffed chair, live plants, and a polished natural-wood table. The efficiency kitchen consists of a refrigerator, full range and oven, sink and microwave, enough for all our needs. Also downstairs is a fully modern bathroom.

Upstairs is the bedroom. We have a king bed looking east toward a skylight framed by hanging ferns; behind us, a series of windows open on an incredible view of the mountains. A door near the bed leads to a balcony allowing an even better view of the unmatchable countryside.

I can't say enough about the owners! These folks care enough about their guests to ensure that all cabins are modern, clean and well-kept and can't do enough (including delivering the morning newspaper personally to us at our cabin!) to make their guests comfortable.

We'd planned to stay only one night before continuing our journey, but this place was so wonderful, we had to stay another day. And we know we'll be back.

We've been all around the world. This is the most beautiful and comfortable place we've ever stayed!

Wow!
These cabins are amazing. The cabins are cozy and wonderful. The stone fireplaces and comfortable setting certainly provide for one of the most memorable stays.
I woke one night to the fireworks display of shooting stars across the August sky filling my bedroom.
So high in the pines, touch the stars.
