“Wish we had more time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

We stayed at Quidhampton Mill based on previous reviews and were not disappointed. We were greeted by Lesa and Martin on arrival, and offered afternoon tea, which was a pleasant surprise. The Loft room was lovely, very clean, and very spacious. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. The location is not far by car from Salisbury, and Lesa and Martin offered advice on local places where we could get dinner. We would have stayed longer if we didn't have pre-booked accommodation for the next nights. We highly recommend Quidhampton Mill B&B.

I stumbled across the Quidhampton Mill by pure chance whilst reading an article about great BnB’s in the UK. It was ‘Times’ recommended and after having a good look on their impressive website my mind was made up, we had to stay at Quidhampton Mill for a weekend! My boyfriend Graham and I emailed Lesa and Martin to arrange the weekend only a few weeks before we came to stay (we did stay out of season though), I would recommend if you are planning to stay in spring or summer you book well in advance. Lesa was very helpful and sent us an email prior to our departure with lots of suggestions for things to do and places to eat.

We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived to the moment we left by Martin and Lesa. We stayed for two nights in The Cabin. The room was lovely, beautifully furnished, clean and homely. The bathroom was of a decent size and there was a small wardrobe also for your belongings. A sweet extra was offered in the way of a ‘just in case’ box for anything you might have forgotten to bring. It came in handy for me, as I’d forgotten my shampoo!

The breakfasts are by far the best BnB breakfast I have ever had. Great local ingredients and Martin and Lesa were only too happy to accommodate any dietary requirements or preferences. I opted for a full English breakfast on both mornings and Graham went for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on one morning. There was also the choice of a continental breakfast, American style pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup or fresh fruit and yoghurts. We also were treated to a complimentary cream tea which was just scrummy!

The location turned out to be great also, the BnB is ten minutes from the centre of Salisbury and we drove to the New Forest on the Saturday and it only took us thirty minutes to get there. We visited Burley and hired bikes to cycle through the New Forest. Lots of great country pubs around the area also and restaurants in Salisbury. We went to the ‘Rose and Thistle’ and the food was delicious.

All in all, we couldn’t recommend the Quidhampton Mill more highly.

Just the loveliest people. Martin came to pick us up from the station (we don't have a car), and then dropped us off at the pub for dinner after getting our bags to our room. We stayed in the Loft and it's beautiful - super clean, spacious bathroom (with tub!), all expected amenities including jelly beans, hot chocolate and a just-in-case box. Breakfasts were really special, and Martin and Lesa went out of their way to provide me with gluten free breakfast alternatives and decaf tea and coffee. They were incredibly helpful and attentive, and really just wonderful hosts.

The only problem (and we almost feel guilty writing this) was that we thought it would be more rural, when in fact the rooms back onto a really busy road. We were woken up by the road noise every day (and we live in London) which meant we never really got the relaxed lie-ins we were hoping for. It also wasn't so easy for us to get around without a car. There's nothing at all to do in the village (no pub, no food, no shop) so in order to eat we had to go half an hour into Salisbury on a fairly pricey bus (or similarly pricey cab). This also meant our plans of mooching around in the country, going for walks, and stopping to eat in a pretty local pub were redundant, and we ended up spending a lot more money than we wanted to shuttling to and from Salisbury. It turned out to be a small-city break rather than a country break....

Other than that, it was pretty amazing.

Room Tip: The Loft is amazing - spacious, light, with a tub.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We haven't actually written a management response on here before because we tend to follow up with a personal thank you after a guest has stayed with us which we email rather than post publicly on Trip Advisor. A response posted on Trip Advisor can be rather impersonal and when there are negative comments we have seen far too many owners become very defensive and irrational with their comments. We feel you have every right to your opinions and will not make a judgement on them. But there is one exception here which we feel we must correct and that is about our location. We are without doubt situated just 2 miles from Salisbury city centre and this usually takes less than 10 minutes to drive (not 30 minutes). We even state on our website that we are "not out in the sticks" - we are very much a suburban extension of Salisbury city centre rather than a rural village and most of our guests enjoy being so close to the city with the added bonus of countryside views. We did try and assist you with transport options before you came to stay with us - I believe we posted you leaflets on the Stonehenge Tour Bus, the bus timetable into Salisbury and the Walking/Bus Tours map which shows bus routes out to rural villages around Salisbury and suggested walking routes (this is a really good one for guests looking for long rural walks). The bus fare into Salisbury is just £2.60 per person or £4 return and you can also buy an unlimited day ticket which costs just £4 per person. A taxi fare into Salisbury is about £9 each way. We do try and assist our guests with transport when they are arriving by public transport - we offer complimentary pick-up and drop off at the station and we sometimes drop them at the pub or into town if we are heading that way.
We are sorry that your stay was not as you expected and also sorry to see that you did not enjoy your meal at Charter 1227 - although it is not one we recommended to you we do mention it in our initial correspondence because it does have rave reviews on Trip Advisor.
Finally we wish you every success with your new business venture and thank you once again for coming to stay with us.
Lesa & Martin

A lovely place, well located. The rooms are well decorated and very clean, with all the expected amenities, plus a load of others that you would not expect, like a "just in case" box left in each room with all of the essentials I always leave at home.

The breakfast was the best I have had with a selection of freshly baked pastries, full English, pancakes or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, in addition to breads, cereals, and yogurts.

Highly recommended!!!

Room Tip: The loft is the best room but the we stayed in the Cabin, also very good.

This is a wonderful B and B...breakfast is delicious! The scrambled eggs and salmon and the blueberry pancakes are a treat. Rooms are great. Martin and Lesa were so friendly and helpful and pointed us in the right direction for things to do, printing out directions and making reservations. Would recommend it to anyone.

Beware TomTom satnav directions...we phoned and were 'talked in'...... Many thanks.

Very well presented accomodation run by delightfull hosts.
Secure parking.

We stayed in 'Loft Room' which was spacious and light. Only problem was banging our heads on ceilings.....oh, the joys of being tall .....and a little 'road noise'.

Room was very, very, very clean and well presented.

If you need a walk-in shower don't opt for this room. (bath with shower attachment only)......our mistake for not asking?

Jellybeans rather than biscuits..... it's an age thing????

Breakfast was very good quality and most enjoyable compared with others.

Lovely owners and in a great location for Salisbury and well known surrounding areas.

This was our first visit to this lovely Bed and Breakfast. On arrival we were offered a cream tea but as evening dinner was booked for 6pm, we managed to share one! The rooms were spotless, lovely bathroom with huge hot towel rail, coffee and tea in room, a good night's sleep then off to breakfast. Everything you needed, including freshly prepared fresh fruit and assorted yoghurts, cereals, choice of 6? different mains, we chose the full English, perfectly cooked and delicious. We have rated this the best B abd B ever, and we have been to many! A perfect place to stay whilst visiting the local area, well done Martin and Lesa!
