“wonderful stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2009

We had great stay though I will say that there was some sticker shock. This place is pretty rustic, isolated and tranquil, but they are charging 4 seasons luxury prices for their rooms, which were nice but not worth almost $300 on a weeknight.
The mineral springs are beautiful, our room was well appointed, and we especially enjoyed our time in a private pool, and sitting by the fireplace. Great little wine bar though it was odd it closed at 9 but the pools stay open til 10.

We just took a trip to Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, driving up on this place you start to wonder why you are there. Once you enter the doors of the spa things change. The staff was super very helpful for any need you may have. My husband and myself both had a 1 hour massage we both left feeling great. We also had a private hot spring pool. This is amazing who would not love sitting in hot springs with a fire going and looking out at a mountian. If you are looking for something very romantic to do with your spouse this is it... We had a great time and left there with a whole new look on relaxing more, we will be back to try this again when there is snow on the ground...

This is a really nice place. Despite some reviews, it seems to me that it's a beautiful spa and the soak is very refreshing. I also recommend the private pool with the fireplace. Consider also a night-time appointment -- the cliffs are lit up with lighting.

Since we didn't stay at the hotel, it was hard to stay late. Next time we will stay at the hotel in order to enjoy more.

We did eat at the restaurant for dinner and the food is innovative and fun. I had a watermelon salad (kind of late in the season, but I was intrigued by the flavors), with olive tapenade and mint, and accompanied by mesclun feta salad with a mint honey dressing. Though one would never guess it, it was a great combination, with the mint marrying the salty / sweet flavors of the watermelon / olive and mesclun/honey/feta. I also had another "side dish" the Chile Relleno stuffed with feta chees pine nuts, dried apricots, currents, tomato . Fire roasted tomatos / japapeno sauce on the side. Another unusual and creative combination that worked very well. Delicious.

I've been traveling to Ojo Caliente every year since 2000. Some years' we went twice. The first time my boyfriend and I went, we started referring to it as our "favorite place in the world". We enjoyed the rustic setting, unmistakable spiritual energy and Great price! Every year, the price increased, the service decreased and that special energy ceased to exist. I found it interesting that the second poorest State in the U.S. had one more place catering to the wealthy. Ojo was so special because you didn't have to dress to the hilt and show off how much money you have. Gone are the days of the native Americans selling their jewerly in front of the Hotel. I can only imagine the complaints they received from the upscale guests. The overnight stays used to include a special blanket wrap and coffee in the mornings. All that now costs extra. We kept going back though, hoping that special place of ours would somehow come back. We finally quit coming last year when our reservervations were messed up and the front desk staff was less than apologetic. The focus has become all about the bottom dollar, rather than the Spirit of Ojo.

At Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa we have been and remain committed to our clients, the healing tradition of our waters and the centuries of tradition.

Perhaps when this visitor was at the springs our Native American vendors were elsewhere, but they are indeed still here when they want to be. Our gift shop also features local products, and items made by local artisans.

As the stewards of the Springs at Ojo Caliente Mineral springs, the owners are committed to integrity of the waters. Also offering local discounts and access to the pueblos. Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and spa has an eclectic clientele as a place of healing in Northern New Mexico would. Additionally we have made significant improvements, while striving to maintain the integrity of the historic past of Ojo. The vast majority of our guests appreciate these improvements.

I invite this guest or anyone with concerns to contact me directly at randy@ojospa.com.

Thank you,
Randy Lehr

We stayed in a little vila with a kiva fireplace. Being from London most of my time was spent burning wood - we don't get to make our own fires in London so it was great novelty and the smell amazing!

Being able to walk from your room to the springs in just a dressing gown has to be one of the small pleasures in life. The springs themselves vary in temperature from luke warm to uncomfortably hot, everything else is in between and therefore manageble. The smell and feeling of the water is very special.

To truly appreciate your time there book a private pool, they hire them out for 60 minute slots and they have their little fireplaces, no-one can see what you get up to so it will be pretty romantic if that is what you are looking for.

Try the food there, the mexican food is very healthy and the waitress there at the time [Rachael] really made us feel at home and was very accommodating. The only drawback for me is the shared use of facilities between hotel guests and locals, somehow it makes the experience less pleasurable perhaps because the people on holiday are relaxed and you can not fail to miss overhearing others talking about work.

Overall, definitely worth popping in - get a villa, the villa made it into a great experience for me.

Drove out from Taos to rid ourselves of two weeks worth of traveling, and purchased day passes and individual massages. Ojo Caliente is in the middle of Nowhere, NM, it is in a desert environment, it is "earthy" (to borrow another reviewer's term), and it is not Baden Baden. Potential visitors need to remember that.

The guests run the complete spectrum; if you're looking for the grandeur of a European-type spa, go somewhere else. If you're hoping to wash away some travel dust with their pools and a satisfactory massage, think about this place.

We had such a great time at Ojo Caliente. We got one of the rooms with a Kiva fire place inside... so wonderful during the winter time. We also did a private pool in the evening after our massages and it was quite pleasant.

Our massages were very so so... so that's that. And I do wish the temperature of the water in the pools (especially for the winter time) was a bit hotter... it felt as though the temperature was around 90 ish degrees, and during the winter it just feels luke warm.

Overall a great experience.
