“Anniversary Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

We were looking for a quick getaway in our area (Silver City, NM) for our anniversary. I'm sorry to say, there's not a lot to choose from for nice accommodations nor good restaurants in our area.
We've stopped by the Toad a few times and thought this might be a nice option. Called for information and reservations and they were very helpful and accommodating. We could bring our dogs and do all the hiking we desired. And, we did lots of that. There are wonderful trails in the immediate vicinity of the inn. Hike in national forests or wilderness, your choice.
The rooms were moderate, comfortable and clean. Nothing special really. But, Teresa and David are in a constant renovation of the property and making things better and better.
The food was reasonably priced and excellent, especially considering there are a lot of things you just can't get in Grant County. The stuffed Portobello may have been the best I've had.
Don't miss their home brews. Ask for a taste of each to find out which best fits your palette or meal. Loved the Stout.
When we arrived for our anniversary dinner, Teresa had set the table with candlelight and rose petals and in a private corner. It was BEAUTIFUL!
Teresa and David are wonderful hosts and the staff is most helpful and friendly. It's a casual atmosphere. So, bring your hiking boots and gear and have a memorable weekend in the mountains.

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw were good. Remember, this is a mountain lodge, not a resort. It's quiet and...

Our family came here for a holiday weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Owners are very friendly and make you feel very welcome! We brought our own bottle of wine and asked if we could borrow a wine bottle opener. To our surprise, they had set our bottle in ice, inside an ice bucket stand with a tray carrying wine glasses and the bottle opener. Totally unexpected but VERY kind gesture!
Food at the restaurant is delicious!
Quiet, beautiful area!
The inn and tavern are very cozy.

Room Tip: Room 20 is on the end of the lodge rooms and the sun does not hit it too harshly in the evenings!

Very good food, so read my separate review for that under "Restaurants in Mimbres" entry for Little Toad Creek Inn. The Inn experience sucked, to be perfectly honest. The guy working the counter is totally aloof and barely around the counter area to begin with...we waited 5+ mins upon check-in and check-out. For such a small place this is unacceptable.

We got our room, and it was a good size but I questioned the cleanliness a bit. Here's my breakdown:

BALCONY: 3/5. Shared with other rooms, good views, but the simple things were off (like the fact that none of the lightbulbs for various rooms worked).

BEDROOM: 2/5. Bed was average, Gliding rocker okay but cushions were worn. TV was fine. Coffee maker wouldn't brew coffee, was poorly wired (power strip dangling precariously in air, coffee spilling out of the bottom and very watered down, had to toss it.

BATHROOM: 1/5. Toilet stopped up very easily and was noisy when flushed (good luck keeping your spouse asleep if you wake up to take a leak). Speaking of leak, bath faucet leaked but we elected not to bathe there anyway.

OVERALL: I think I was mostly P'd about the guy running the counter...something just said "I don't give a crap about you" in his mannerisms and I could've otherwise overcome a sloppy room as that's to be expected when you're this remote.

My husband and I spent a weekend here for a music event in April. The drive up was slow going on a curvy and beautiful road through national forest. We had lovely dinners but they were a little pricey. There wasn't any other place to eat in the area so it added up. They brew their own beer and it was great. The rooms were pretty cheap running from $40-$75 -ish per night. The room decor was a bit rustic with the furniture looking like it was from a second hand store. There was effort though to make it look cute and homey. In the area are the Gila Cliff Dwellings, Lake Roberts and hot springs. The owners are very nice and friendly.

My husband and I spent our anniversary weekend at the Little Toad Creek Inn. It is a charming Inn with bunkhouse (economical) and lodge rooms. The tavern is a fun spot to sample their site brewed beer. My husband equates the stout to a Guinness and I enjoyed the pale (coldest I've had) and porter. Tye was very helpful in giving us ideas on which beer to choose as well as pointers on the area. We played pool and darts as we interacted with many others both local and passing through the area stopping off for refreshment. It is at the intersection of 35 and 15, iin route to the Gila Cliff Dwellings and/or Silver City. The restaurant is outstanding and the food amazing. We had the chipotle chicken Alfredo, a burger that was the best we had ever tasted and a shrimp dish that my husband loved. Service is great and very personable. We dined twice and were thrilled each evening wishing we could stay another night to have dinner. Be sure to save room for dessert.... glad we did! Our bunkhouse room was a great alternative to camping and a nice retreat with a comfy bed and hot shower and Direct TV after a day of hiking and exploring. We also loved to sit and relax on the front porch while watching the many Hummingbirds as they enjoyed the many available feeders. We are already planning a return and to perhaps indulge in a lodge room with a view from the balcony. So glad we found you! Thanks for a fantastic weekend.

If you are anywhere in the vicinity of this oasis in New Mexico, it is WELL worth the trip! The food is unbelievable! The setting is gorgeous. If you can stay overnight, even better! Comfortable, lovely accomodations with the kindest hosts and great hiking and hot springs nearby. Our stay at the Little Toad was the highlight of our New Mexico trip, and the food is equal to that we have had at the finest gourmet restaurants in large cities. The owners, Teresa and David, are a sweet young couple who are pouring their hearts and souls into this place, and you can feel the love. If Teresa has freshly baked one of her amazing apple crumbles, be sure not to miss it!
We also visited in the summer with our kids and found it to be very family-friendly.
We will be back!

Room Tip: Loved Room 20
