Days Inn Las Vegas, NM was selected as a stop over hotel on a trip from Austin, TX to Angel Fire, NM. Factors, in order of importance, leading to our selection are Pet Policy, Price and previous experience with Days Inn. We were pleased to be able to book a Non-Smoking, King, Pet Friendly room at a reasonable price after 2 pm same day. The exterior of the property was clean but run down. Parking area was well lit at night with motion sensor lights near our car (I forgot something important). We did feel safe leaving the majority of our possessions in the trunk. I walked the entire property walking the dog. Conditions were depressed, but probably similar to others in this town, but again the property was clean and free of debris even in the rear facing the rail tracks. The entry foyer was crowded with vending, ice and luggage trolley. Our room was upstairs away from the lobby and down the hall from smoking rooms. I did smell cigarette smoke at least one time while walking the corridor, but our room was free of smoke smell. The bedding and pillows were a very pleasant surprise, new and fresh with a down covered spread and new fluffy soft pillows. For a person with a bad back, it was a comfortable sleeping bed. The perfectly white cover was a bit terrifying with a pet in tow. Thankfully we brought his own covers to protect the bed when he got too excited and jumped on the bed. The room was not as clean as I would expect. The carpeting was not well vacuumed. We probably brought in some debris, but I doubt we brought in all debris I noticed. I believe the carpet was a solid reddish color. Perhaps a patterned carpet would be more forgiving. The least pleasant condition of the room was a constant smell of urine. The lavatory appeared clean, but the smell permeated the room. When I woke in the middle of the night that's the first thing I noticed. While the property was less than desired the staff were excellent. Everyone we encountered was professional, polite, informative and willing to serve. As a woman I felt safe taking my dog out front at 4 a.m for his bio-break. The male night clerk, was attentive and cordial. I had noticed cameras in the hallway so felt confident there were cameras on the external area as well. NOTE: I did not express any of my disappointment with the property with the staff.
