“What a treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

I am from Las Cruces, and most of the lodging on Picacho Rd here is pretty run down. We traveled from Baja in January to Las Cruces and the first couple of days we were somewhere else. Finally we went to the Best Value to look at the rooms. What an awesome surprise. This place is great, clean, and the management was the most cordial of any I have encountered in recent years. My wife and I are preparing to travel back to Las Cruces again from Baja, Mexico and there is no doubt in my mind where I am going to stay In reading the other reviews (sour grapes), I cannot believe they were at the same inn. David and his wife are incredible and bend over backwards to insure your comfort. Picacho Rd used to be the truck route thru town. Now not so much, but don't pass this value. Free breakfast, and the interior grounds are really nice. Check it out and see for yourself. Ask and they will show you around and then you decide. I'll be back there in a few days. Pancake house next door and more food down the road less than 1/2 mile. Traveler, if you want " pretty" go pay 100 or more down the road, but if you want pure comfort, pleasant digs, with real folks, stay here. I will anytime in Cruces.

Room Tip: Rooms on the courtyard offer very attractive landscaping, a fish pond, swimming pool and more.

“Quiet and different. Give it a try.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Overall, this was economical lodging with benefits. You need to have an open mind to different lodging than the standard "big box" inns on the interstates. This is akin to what a traveler might find 25-30 years ago traveling. The owners provide a family style personal touch and work very hard to maintain the big property. We liked the wifi, microwave, frig, big chile, quiet courtyard, parking, coy pond, gazebo, outdoor grill, desert gardens, palm trees and the quirky-ness of it all.
Like others, the reviews on Trip Advisor prompted us to reserve this hotel for 3 nights in Las Cruces. We have stayed in Las Cruces many times and know the area where this hotel is located. This area does not have a reputation for being the best part of town, but it has been "Cleaned Up" compared to how we first saw it years ago.
My wife was less comfortable here than me. The security lock on the door is light weight and not what you would find in a hotel. This is a non-smoking room, but cigarette smoke smell came in the bathroom when the fan was on. The shower head is very low as is the bathroom ceiling.
Many of the details found in standard hotels are lacking here. No hairdryer, coffee pot, large bath towels, big screen tv or new furniture.
The bed was comfortable, the room was large and everything was adequate. I struggled with giving this an average or very good rating. But, I would like this place to succeed and improve and it needs business to do that. So give it a try and see what you think.

Room Tip: Inside courtyard,

“oh my no,no,no”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Price was agreed to before we arrived and again at desk at entry, owners fighting all the time. After arrival they decided to deny service since there was a discount. The owners screamed at us, said we could not leave early, we said 4 to 6 days and left at 4. We were threatened, our credit company agreed with us. Area was dirty, trash pale overturned days by room, and neighborhood was very bad. WE had to fight to get towels, worst place I ever stayed in.

The statements and claims made by this couple are false and misleading. For instance, the credit card company did not agree with them and closed their claim, xxxAAGF, in our favor on 2/08/13. God bless this couple.

“Americans Best Value Inn”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

There was some sort of sand on sheets. The room freezing cold when I arrived and it took a long time for the room to heat up once the heater was turned on. The TV barely worked and the towels looked not so fresh. There is also no way to check out very early in the morning. From what I could tell, there was no staff working through the night. Staff was nice, though. Offered soda & chips/salsa when I arrived. I didn't stay long enough to experience the free breakfast.

“Family Style, Good Price, OK Choice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

We pre-booked this motel on the Internet based on excellent Trip Advisor reviews.

The strongest recommendation for this motel is definitely the management and the service they provide. You will be greeted & treated like family, for example in response to a check-in time request for a recommendation on a good Mexican restaurant we were not only provided with what proved to be an excellent recommendation (see below) but were given a plate of chips & salsa to tide us over until dinnertime. The family theme carries over in the décor; the lobby seems more living-room than hotel lobby, and the central pool-courtyard looks like a well decorated & tended backyard.

Our room was clean and comfortable, adequately sized and featured TV, free Wi-Fi, a microwave and fridge. A basic continental breakfast was included.

Having said all this it should be noted this is a bargain motel of older construction, although recently refreshed/upgraded. Notably missing are a few common extras like in-room coffee and a hair dryer. Also the location is a mile or two off the freeway, although not difficult to get to.

All in all considering price & extra-friendly staff we’ll rate it an OK choice if fancy isn’t your priority.

A final added note is that no matter where you might stay in Las Cruces, if you are at all partial to Mexican food you should try the La Posta de Mesilla, which traces its history back to 1939. Check their reviews!

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms are more isolated but street-side is quiet enough too.
