This hotel is currently undergoing re-branding and remodeling. When we reserved (we called what we THOUGHT was a Days Inn, and weren't told any differently, although this is currently in the process of becoming an America's Best Value Inn) they failed to mention that this hotel was currently undergoing remodeling and that guests were expected to deal without complaints or any discounts any problems or discomfort caused by said remodels. This hotel is on the same street, and the same SIDE of the street, (actually directly across the street) from a hotel that has been branded or rebranded as a Days Inn, as well, and that created frustration trying to find the place, too. THIS location had all signage covered, and says neither Days Inn OR America's Best Value.
The FIRST room we were given, we couldn't even get the door open as it had been damaged and the lock was broken.
The SECOND room was still in the process of being remodeled and had sharp metal pieces and nails strewn about the floor. Since we were checking in at almost midnight, we just said screw it and kept the room rather than moving the car, bags and ourselves a third time.
The upside was that the shower in this room DID have a very nice and roomy shower, which HAD already been remodeled, although the rest of the room hadn't yet been repainted (there were spots that the paint was peeling from the walls in the sleeping area).
When we mentioned it the following morning on check out, the staff just shrugged and pointed to an almost hidden sign that said something to the effect of "pardon our dust during the remodel" and basically said it sucks to be you, we don't offer discounts due to "inconveniences" resulting from the remodel.
There was no signage directing guests to the "breakfast room" which was not well cleaned or stocked (bitter coffee, an empty pitcher of juice, and a pitcher of milk that might have had enough milk to pour a saucer of milk for a cat, PERHAPS), some unripe oranges, over ripe apples, and bruised bananas, along with some stale muffins. We had to ask directions from the same "manager" who shrugged off the safety violation, and he acted inconvenienced by the fact that we asked.
In short, there are other hotels (an actual Day's Inn, a La Quinta and a couple of others) a few car lengths away. Spend your money there, and you won't have to worry about cutting yourself on metal, nails and screws and will likely get a better breakfast.
Next time I travel through Las Cruces, I Definitely won't be staying here.
