“Wonderful Breakfast under the tree”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2011

Called for a last minute booking and was accomodated. Wonderful Hosts providing all that is needed without being "too" helpful which was appreciated. The Inn is extremely secluded in a residential area.

The breakfast was great and served outdoors under the tree. The only regret was having to leave after just one night's stay.

The Hilltop Hacienda is a great B&B. Run by Teddi and Bob Peters, the rooms are spacious with in suite baths, REALLY comfortable beds and neat decorating. A comfortable living room includes an extensive book, DVD and VCR library and cable TV.
Teddi serves a super hot breakfast. Off I-10 and convenient to White Sands Nat. Monument and other fun spots. We'd DEFINITELY stay again, hopefully for longer.

Teddy and Bob have converted the lower level of their architecturally unusual home into bed-and-breakfast accommodations. My wife and I were treated to the largest of the three rooms available, but any one of the three would have been more than adequate. All were spotlessly clean.

Guests enter the house through a comfortable common room with couches, a television, and lots of books and DVDs. Off to one side of the common room is a bright, sunny breakfast nook. There is also a fully equipped kitchen off the common room that would allow guests to do anything from storing a bottle of wine to cooking a full meal.

Our room was a corner room with windows to the south and the west. We had a super-comfortable king bed. Decor was tasteful, appropriate to the locale, and not "fussy." The bathroom (shower only) was very large, and there was ample counter space around the sink--always a premium.

The hot, freshly prepared breakfast on each of the three mornings we stayed at Hilltop Hacienda was delicious and ample. There's no reason to go away hungry. Teddy (Theodora) and Bob joined us for breakfast and gave us plenty of advice on places to eat and sights to see while we were in Las Cruces. The hosts were gracious and really wanted their guests to enjoy their stay.

The house is located on five hilltop acres with great views of the Rio Grande valley to the west and the Organ Mountains to the east. The house is surrounded by extensive gardens tended by Teddy. In summer, they are a showplace featured on Las Cruces-area garden tours, but during our winter stay they were dominated by dried grasses and succulents.

There were two fairly minor disadvantages to the accommodations. First, the B&B is located about four miles north of the northernmost Las Cruces exit on I-25. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the interstate and the commercial development and amenities surrounding the interstate exit, and 15 minutes to the city center. It takes 25-30 minutes to get to Old Mesilla, one of the primary tourist attractions around Las Cruces. In addition, the last half-mile to the house is on decent dirt road. (Hilltop Hacienda is located just outside the city limits of Las Cruces in unincorporated Dona Ana County--a real plus if you're looking for a quiet getaway).

Secondly, the rooms could be a bit better soundproofed. We were never kept awake or really disturbed by other guests' activities, but occasionally we could hear talking in the common room or in the kitchen.

All in all, we had a very good stay at Hilltop Hacienda and certainly would go back in the future if were in the area.

My husband and I stayed in this lovely B&B with my brother and his wife. We had two of the three rooms the first night (the 3rd room was vacant), so we really had the whole place to ourselves and felt like it was our home. In addition to the comfortable rooms with large bathrooms, there is a living room, dining room and full kitchen. There are also several patios and gardens -- lots of little places to sit and read or just relax with great views of desert mountains or flowers in bloom. The moon was full and magical both nights we were there and it was great to just sit outside in the soft late spring air. It was difficult for us to have to share the place the second night when another couple showed up -- but they were gone most of the time, so we able to continue feeling of ownership of the whole place. Of course, Teddi and Bob, the owners live above the B&B rooms, and they really own the place and do all the work, but that's what makes it so fun to be there -- as guests, we didn't have to do anything and we could fantasize about owning the place. They also have a dog -- which was great for those of us missing our dogs. Oh yes, the breakfasts were great too -- we have special diets and Teddi did a great job taking care of us. We are now trying to think of reasons to get back to Las Cruces, so we can stay at the Hilltop Hacienda again.

We stayed two nights at the Hilltop Hacienda and had a wonderful time. Bob and Teddie are great hosts. The place was very clean, although the bed linens were a bit outdated. We would highly recommend this place. The establishment is for sale, so there may be new owners in the future.

This was our first stay at a b&b, and it surpassed all of our expectations. The hostess, Teddi, was gracious and cooked the most delicious breakfast we have ever had. The cactus gardens and views from the Hilltop Hacienda are absolutely gorgeous! The bed was comfy, and the private bath was glorious! Our bathroom had a huge, tiled, walk-in shower. Loved it! Not sure when we will be passing through Las Cruces again, but we definitely will stay here when we do!

  • Liked — The views, grounds, breakfast, and bathroom!
  • Disliked — It was a little bit hard to find, BUT we liked how it was tucked out of the way.

Our trip to the Southwest started with a one night stay at the Hilltop Hacienda Bed and Breakfast in Las Cruces, NM. We got lost once because the directions were not the best, but once we found the hacienda we were very pleased that we had chosen this out of the way place. Roses were everywhere and all in bloom. Wonderful smells of honeysuckle blended with the roses were all around us, and the view from the patio was extraordinary. We never saw Teddi, but was told that she did cook our breakfast the next morning which was quite good, but not out of the ordinary. Our bed was very comfy and the room and bathroom was clean but a little out of date. But for my part I was pleased with the room. Bob, our host met us when we arrived and helped us with our luggage, but never said goodbye to us when we left. We were left on our own which we had no problem with carrying our luggage out, but would have liked to have said goodbye. I would certainly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone who likes a view and a comfortable bed.
