NMSU is a good stop while visiting Las Cruces. There is a good, small art museum (they have a large collecttion of pottery from the Americas and, there were exhibits of Spanish colonial furniture and photos of the Depression era), an art gallery, and a large sports/entertainment center. While in the area, we were able to attend a good jazz concert put on by the university jazz orchestra, as well as guest jazz performers, for a low entrance fee. Parking was a pleasure because the university police will give you a parking pass for most lots on campus--you should stop there before visiting the university.
