“ok for one night, beds uncomfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

we stayed here last night, no reservation, just a walk in.

Hotel was clean, and reception was friendly enough

Rooms are very spacious and have everything you need, a few light bulbs were out in the room, also a little bit of train noise but was no real problem, but that was no real problem, and anywhere in Gallup you will probably hear train noise.

Main issue we had was the bed sagged towards the middle, and they use the really small pillows. Had the bed been more comfy, and full size pillows been available we would definitely reviewed this hotel better. price was it was ok, but not great at $99 plus tax.

No elevator to second level was annoying given we had luggage to haul upstairs. there's a few restaurants nearby for eating (apple bees etc) which was convenient for dinner.

breafast was fine this morning, with a basic hot selection, and some cereals, pastries etc.

The staff was very friendly and helped us with all our needs. Check in was smooth and efficient. The rooms were nice and had a beautiful decor. We loved the exterior corridor because we could park right near our room. Th breakfast had a great variety and a lot to choose from. Will definitely stay here again!

We stayed here Sunday night, January 1st and there were a few issues. I may sound picky, but the little things tend to add up to an overall bad experience. We were issued to card-keys. One didn’t work at all and the other worked on the third try. Seems the reader was having issues. I tried the bad key later and it worked after 5 or so attempts. Once in, the quality of the room was average, but not bad. I think it was just a bit dated and could use some sprucing up. We had a first floor room which also happened to be handicap accessible, not that we requested that. The bathroom was huge (read room enough for two people to turn around in their wheel chairs), but that made the room itself quite small. The toilet was wobbly. That would be precarious were we handicapped. But, other than that, not bad.

The next morning, we turned on the shower and waited for the water to heat up. After a couple of minutes, it became obvious that it wasn’t going to. We turned the know the other direction thinking it could be plumbed backwards, but no change. We tried the hot water in the sink and it’s was hot enough to brew coffee. However, the shower was still room temperature. I went to the front desk and was told the maintenance man was not in yet, but they could give us the key to a vacant room and we could use the shower there. Keep in mind, it was 17F in Gallup, NM Monday morning which would make for a cold walk back to our room where all our stuff is. Still, I figured we could try it. They gave me a card-key and I went to the vacant room. No amount of coaxing would get the card reader to unlock using that key. At that point, we gave up on getting a shower and getting on the road in time to make it home at a reasonable time.

I will say the breakfast wasn’t bad. I’ve had better, but there were scrambled eggs (a bit watery), fruit, oatmeal, waffles (the kind you make yourself), hot coffee, hot water for tea, juices, etc. So, overall I’d rate our experience poor. Maybe we caught them at a bad time. This is the first time we’ve stayed at this Quality Inn. But our previous bad experiences have been at Quality Inn, Comfort Inn, or others within this chain. They have a problem with quality and need to address it. Holiday Inn Express and others in this price point tend to have higher standards. I don't think Quality Inn, etc, deserves the same amount for their rooms. If we’re going to pay $90+ for a room, we’ll stay at Holiday Inn Express from now on.

The staff was exceptional from the time we called to make the reservation to checkout! it was Christmas morning and the buffet staff even heated our special Christmas morning traditional breakfast for us! Then, they took our picture by the Christmas tree for us to forward to our family and friends that day. The room was much cleaner than many rooms with a fresh smell and no odors. The heater on a 10degree night outside was warm and quiet. We highly recommend this hotel.

We didn't like the fact that there were only outside entrances to the rooms, but that was our own fault for not doing our research. The room needed serious updating - the bathtub had been re-done, but the overlay on the tub wasn't a tight fit, so it squeaked and rocked while showering. The TV stations did not come in clearly, so watching the local evening news was a snowy mess. The walls were thin, so noises from the outside were more than audible - people walking by, and The Train. Worst was the heating unit. It came on frequently with a very loud fan - we both woke up every time it went on or off. Staff was pleasant, breakfast was average, cookies always available was a nice touch. I wouldn't stay here again - we were in route from Las Vegas, NV, to Colorado Springs. We will choose a different motel next year.

Room Tip: End of a hallway to avoid people noises. Can't avoid that train noise!

This is a very nice property but if you want a smoking room, they are all on second floor. The access to second floor is by stairs only and may be a long way from your room. We cancelled due to this but first checked out the room and property. It was very nice and staff was very helpful. Don't fret about train noise, everyplace in town is near the RR and it is not that bad. This location is very close to food and shopping. If you don't want a smoking room you may be able to book a first floor pull up room.

I would to start by saying that the people in Gallup, NM were wonderful. The Quality Inn staff must have missed the memo. We were down for a football tournament and at first everything seemed fine. We try to check in Friday night and have our card swiped twice. The desk clerk tells us that the card did not go through. We decide to take care of the issue at checkout. The next day we have 5 NIGHTS charged to our account. The hotel proceeds to inform us that is for incidentals. Funny how we incidentals in excess of 400 DOLLARS! When my wife trys to work out the situation she is accused of being racist! The charge is still on my card and now the bank has got to deal with the incompetance of this hotel. This hotel is committing fraud and I would not recommend you stay unless you want your money stolen.
