If Gallup is a destination, I would suggest staying at one of the hotels off of exit 20 rather than exit 16. If looking for a place to sleep while traveling, drive to another town! You won't get much sleep at this hotel. There is a sewage treatment facility that is close to this hotel so the room and the whole area smells pretty badly. The train runs nearby, so you will hear the horn blow. The towels and sheets are very rough and cleanliness was questionable. I slept fully clothed with a hoodie on due to this. I would have turned around and left but I had, stupidly, already booked this room with a no refund clause. I especially would have left due to the poor treatment I received when I checked in. In general, I think I am a fairly courteous person since I travel a lot and I know that retail and service industry workers have it pretty tough. However, the front desk person was rude as soon as I stepped up to the counter and said, "hi." She very curtly asked for my i.d. and credit card but proceeded to not look at the name. This was evident by her giving me the wrong room reservation page. When I pointed out that she gave me someone else's reservation page (with their name, address, the site where they booked reservation), she argued with me for five minutes about how I misspelled my own name and was mistaken about where I booked my reservation. She finally looked up my reservation on the computer after I asked her to look it up again. I didn't want to take this person's room as they had paid for their room in full. She found that I indeed had a reservation under my name (spelled correctly)! She apologized but I feel that her demeanor was in large part to my being of Asian descent and her perspective that there can only be one Asian person checking in at this hotel at any given time...and of course that I cannot know English well enough to book reservations with the correct spelling of my name. Overall, stay away from this hotel. I got three hours of sleep after being on the road for 14 hours.

Our sincere apologies for any discomfort we may have made you feel on your recent visit. Our guests are just as diverse as the employees who work at this inn. I have shared your experience with senior management. We have recently trained all our staff in the area of service and will continue to offer diversity training and coaching. I am confident that your less than pleasant experience about the reservation name was a genuine mistake. We thank you for expressing your concerns, and we will do our best to ensure that this doesn't happen again.
