“A trip to the past!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Fun place to stay amazing foyer and the thought of all those '40s movie stars staying there gives you a real feel for what luxury was, and how our modern day luxury is so wasteful. Pool area could do with an update though. Nice quiet room had to ask for a room with fridge though.

You cannot expect people to feel welcome and happy based on your lobby and history alone. Staff was extremely rude. From the moment we checked in and especially when we went to the bar for drinks and dinner. It did not get any better the next morning while checking out. It's sad when you are hundreds of miles away from home and are treated poorly. The waitress in the bar is the worst. Extremely unfriendly, slow and obviously doing it on purpose. Worth a stop to look at it but you should move on and stay somewhere else. With a little effort they really could make this a great experience but are truly missing the mark.

If you are interested in luxury and modernity- stay away. Otherwise, don't miss this old vintage gal! Probably not the best for an extended stay, but a great stop over or short trip. Full of autographed movie star photos. Has 2 restaurants and a bar inside the hotel, so no need to venture out if you're a bit road weary. Hang around there and imagine its heyday. We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight there. The lobby is a real WOW and the rooms are small but comfortable. We had Doris Day's room. Not overflowing w/ electrical outlets for recharging but be creative! We unplugged the TV!

This is supposed to be the coolest place, where all of the movie stars stayed while making old western movies. The lobby is nice and there is an impressive display of the stars' photos and memorabilia. The room is tiny, but clean, and way overpriced. There was no A/C - we were supposed to OPEN THE WINDOWS, over a busy, noisy street, windows which, mind you, have no screens. The room was stifling, and it got worse after we both took a shower. There isn't even a fan in the bathroom to take away the steam. We were actually told we should just take a COLD shower! It was impossible to adjust the shower - it simply ran in waves of hot and cold. Furthermore, once in the room, in order to leave, we had to CALL someone to COME GET US. We could not even leave our room! I felt like I was in prison, not what is supposed to be a fancy hotel where I had just paid way too much for a room. AND - whoever came to let us out expected a tip as well. There was entertainment in the lobby - I could hear the music playing - but we couldn't get our of our room to go downstairs and enjoy it. Believe me, the charm here is NOT worth the hassle.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

what a cool place. old school but charming. we stayed in the Jane Wyman room. small but clean. a nice overnight but too cramped for an extended stay. we really liked the charm even if the shower was camper sized. the pull chain for the light was a nice touch. original medicine cabinet.

the bed was comfortable but the A/C has no control. it was not hot though and we were there in July.

the lobby and the history is what makes this place. along with the night manager. he was a character.

When we first walked into the lobby we were blown away. A player piano belted out upbeat tunes. Beautiful red velour furniture was everywhere. Western lighting and decor were indeed impressive. The second floor balcony has dozens of photo of movie stars that said here. Our room was on the third floor, but the desk clerk is required to operate the elevator for you. The room and bathroom are a tad small, but this is how hotels were built back on the day. The room had a flat screen TV, alarm clock, ceiling fan, and wifi. If people are looking for full amenities and a free breakfast then go elsewhere. However, if you want to live like the stars live then this is your place. This is definitely a Route 66 gem.

Quaint hotel with a great history , but staff and general service sadly lacking.
Bar person so rude we felt it best not to stay too long. Dinner was tasty but took for ever to arrive .
Our breakfast was delivered to the wrong table, waiter didn't see that as a problem.
Call in and take a photo but don't waste your money here.
