SunRay Sportz Arena at the SunRay Casino in Farmington, NM, is more like a bust than a jackpot.
Place: SunRay Sportz Arena @ SunRay Casino, Farmington, NM
I can not begin to say how disappointing this experience was. I realize it was one of the many "promotional" nights that this restaurant offers to entice both locals and travelers to try their dining "luck" at this Casino. But I can tell you it was a total bust rather than a jackpot.
First, if you are going to offer a promotional night such as "Prime Rib Diner for $9.99", you should first and foremost be staffed both front of the house and back of the house to obviously accommodate the anticipated crowds, or, amount of business you are going to do for the evening. This was obviously not the case this evening. When we arrived for our dining experience, we first had to wait almost 15 minutes to be sat, when there were over 7 tables that could be sat, just had not been because they had not been bussed. Pretty evident that only one busser was on. Then when we were finally sat at our table it took our Server over 12 minutes to greet us (yes I timed it). When she did finally greet us, it was not a friendly welcome or even a nice gesture of appreciation that we took time out of our time to join them at their establishment for the evening, rather an attitude that I am busy and what do you want. Realizing that this is an extremely busy night of the week for this restaurant because of their "promotional" night, I am always willing to overlook and be more forgiving/accommodating knowing it’s not easy on busy nights. However, just being glad that she at least greeted us and was willing to take our drink order, not wanting to wait any further we asked if she could take our food order at the same time. She replied she could and did. Myself and my two other guests all ordered the Prime Rib Special WITH baked potato. She wrote it down and repeated back to us what we ordered. I would have thought it was pretty simple since we all three ordered Prime Rib with a baked potato.
Drinks, that’s a whole other story, she did return fairly promptly with one of my guest's Iced Tea, but myself and my other guest who ordered two draft beer's well, 11 minutes after ordering the drinks (yes I timed it again) she finally returned with our two draft beers. After sitting there at the table for some time and noticing (now 32 minutes later after placing our order, yes timing it again) and our food still had not arrived, I inquired of our server approximately how much longer our food would be since it had now been well over 30 minutes since we had placed our order. Knowing that Prime Rib is usually cooked in advanced and only needing to be sliced and placed on a plate or slightly cooked up to the guest's liking, I thought this was kind of odd, that Prime Rib, ordered med/rare for two of the orders and med for the other would be taking so long. I was then informed by our server that "oh we are waiting on the baked potatoes, we seem to have run out and that’s what your food is waiting on." Apparently they had been out of baked potato for some time and were still waiting on them in order to send out any of the food that had been ordered with that side item. Rather than the server offering us another choice such as mashed potato or some other side item, she simply replied that "our order will be out when the baked potatoes are out". She then scampered off not really giving us any clue as to how much longer we would have to wait. Fortunately a nice young waitress by the name of Jessica happened to stop by my table recognizing my two dining guests, and inquired how we were doing for the evening. When my two guests replied we had been waiting for our food for some time, Jessica was kind enough to check on the food for us to see what the hold up was. Forty-Eight, yes that’s right 48 minutes from the time our server, (not Jessica), left the table with our order till the time she arrived with our food, on a large server tray, with no tray jack, and had to place the tray down on our table to pass out the food I mind you, it was a total of 48 minutes (yes again, I timed it).
She passed out all of our food, at this point all of the Prime rib, appeared to be either at least med to med well done, not even the slightest hint of pink in the two orders that had been ordered med/rare. But here is the kicker; all three orders had MASHED POTATO on them! Not a single baked potato that my two guests and I had supposedly been waiting on this whole time. Forty-eight minutes for sliced prime rib and mashed potato, the prime rib not being cooked as ordered and then to top it off, no Au Jus on the plates either. When our server happened to pass by the table again, we were able to flag her down and inquire of her, where the Au Jus and the Baked Potatoes were and she emphatically stated that we had ordered our Prime Rib with Mashed Potato. this was a contradiction when twice at 30 minutes and again right before our food came out that the only thing we were waiting on was the Baked Potato, not to mention when she took our order and read it back to us she had written down and repeated to us that we had ordered Baked Potato. Needless to say I had had enough. I asked the server to remove my plate from the table and I had to leave the table. My two dining guests remained to eat their somewhat acceptable meal, after Jessica, not our server, returned to the table with the Au Jus and Baked Potato.
All the while there was a Manager with a long green dress shirt and black vest, glasses, roaming the restaurant that was acting more as a host rather than a Manager, as he never once stopped by our table to inquire as to why we had such a bad dining experience or why I had asked to have my portion of the meal (the prime rib which I did not even touch) taken off the bill. With this sort of poor service, extreme wait time, and food not even as ordered, this is definitely not a gamble on a dining experience I am likely to take a spin at again any time soon.
Very poor experience. Try your luck elsewhere, because here you will just go BUST!
