“Better than expected!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here three nights. Traveling with our two little dogs. We were charged $30 for pets. We thought that was reasonable. Our friends also stayed with their standard poodle in another room. Our friends room was on the lake side of hotel and had new furniture, bathroom, king size bed and small couch. New tv. Our room was clean and functional, but had particle board furniture, old tv, old kind of worn out bathroom, and hard as rock beds. We did have super comfy pillows on the bed. Was very disappointed that we both were given the same rate for rooms, but yet ours was substandard and quite disappointing compared to our friends room. I'd definitely stay here again, but I'd ask for a remodeled room.

Ivory Tusk R, Public Relations Manager at Elephant Butte Inn, responded to this review, March 17, 2013
Hi. The Elephant Butte Lake Resort would like to thank you for taking time to review our property. Right now, the reasons the rooms are all the same price are (1) we are a summer resort and vacancy is quite stark in the winter months. We made all the rooms the same price as an enticement to travelers and (2) We have been remodeling almost all the rooms this winter on the lakeside and therefore very few rooms have been available. We apologize that there were no lake side rooms available when you visited us. Please, when you make your next reservation, ask for a remodeled room. Show the front desk this email and we will be happy to give you a discount upon your arrival for your inconvenience. Sincerely,
Elephant Butte Inn & Spa

We enjoyed everything about our stay. The room was clean and what we expected. We enjoyed the breakfast in the dining room overlooking the lake, loved the outdoor bar/eating area with the rustle of the babmboo cain in the wind. The food was all good. It was nice having everything in one place. The staff were all frien.dly

I usually stay in truth or consequences, nm but wanted to try something different while getting familiar with the 'closest to beach-like experience' in nm. This inn did not disappoint. The walking distance to the closest lake front is a decent 30 minute hike and perfect for exercising your dog. I started my walk a bit late in the day & got lost coming back in the dark. I called the hotel, explained where I was, & they sent someone to rescue me! Super sweet. The tavern/ restaurant has good rellenos & although the beer selection is lacking for the beer snob, they do have decent whiskey to choose from. The grass lawn, proximity to the lake & dog wash across the street make it a great place to stay with your pooch. They even give you biscuits & poo bags when you check- in.

The rooms are clean & have all the essentials. The staff is super nice. The internet connection was not working on my ipad but i could get on to the network on my smartphone. There is a pool, although closed by my visit, it looks nice & gets ample sun. I honestly don't know where else a person would stay in elephant butte unless you are camping or rv-ing but you can't go wrong staying here. I would definitely stay here again & next time I will partake in the spa services.

Had a really enjoyable time in this small town. The hotel was very clean and the management is just amazing. Referred us to amazing restaurants in the area and even gave us a coupon to the hot springs. I brought my two medium dogs and they enjoyed the room and the lake. It was a great time at the lake and we really enjoyed the breakfast at the Tavern. The manager even opened the gift shop for me even after it was closed. It was a great time that we stayed a extra night. A really enjoyable trip to elephant butte and dinner at Kbob's Restaurant was great and afforable place to eat. MUST GO!

Room Tip: The customer service is just like being back in the south to me. Down home comfort and everyone says...

Altogether commodious! Very friendly and clean, the place appears to employ half the town and everyone we spoke with had worked there at least 9 years.
Pool was wonderful, not busy, not lots of chlorine. Great chef - Joan. Terrific service bartender- Sonny. All food and beverages were very inexpensive and extremely tasty.
Room was comfortable and bright.

Room Tip: poolside, ground level

Travelin' Jack, Roving Bulldog Reporter and Pet Travel Guru had his paw-socks knocked off at all the great pet-friendly attributes at this lakeside resort. Here are some of his favorite things about this hotel (and neighboring RV) resort:
1)Rooms are either lakeview or mountainview...with direct outdoor access to the lawn.
2)Spacious rooms with nice accoutrements.
3)Doggie Treat upon arrival (woo-hoo!) includes dog biscuits and potty pick-up bag
4) Lush green lawn, sandy beach area, walking paths surround the Inn.
5) Ivory Tusk Tavern (that serves great NM and American fare) has a pet-friendly outdoor patio.
6) Each room has porch area for enjoying the morning coffees, evening sunsets and chats with friendly tourist neighbors
7) Reasonable pet fees ($15 per stay for small pets, $20 for large pets)
8) Sister RV resort has (are you ready for this BIG PLUS?) a Self-Serve Dog Bath! The easy to use bath is available to all dogs, local and visiting, and is a handy state-of-the-art set up to make Fido (or in this case Travelin' Jack) spotless clean and oh-so-sweet to smell!
9) RV Resort also has smallish but nice partially shaded fenced off-leash park. There is a handy Dog Station nearby to make clean up easy.
10) Elephant Butte city has a walking/biking/dog trail directly in front of the inn. This nice walkway is paved, has shaded covered rest areas, and has Doggie stations AND WATER STATION. The water station is geared to tall people, short people...and DOGS!
11) The staff is very pet-friendly throughout the property...from welcoming Front Desk to Staff to housekeepers and grounds-keepers. The family owned pride in this property is evident. They go to great lengths to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay for both people and pets!
12) Lobby area and even the Gift Shop are pet friendly.
13) ELEPHANT BUTTE IN EARNS TRAVELIN' JACK'S PRESTIGIOUS 5-PAWS RATING!

Room Tip: Ask for a pet-friendly room. We prefer downstairs rooms. They offer both upstairs and downstairs p...

We recently enjoyed another (our 4th) stay at the Elephant Butte Inn and are happy to report that this place just seems to get better each year. The lakeview rooms are just so comfy, recently renovated baths feel spa like, and the desert air, well kept grounds with pool and fantastic meals in the Ivory Tusk restaurant make this a truly relaxingl stop. The Ivory Bar/Lounge is fun and relaxing with the best appetizers like nachos, guacamole and chips, etc. a must do. The staff are so accommodating and since our last visit they now have a spa offering massages, facials, etc. that l really wanted to try, but our timing wasn't right. We did truly relish the yummy Sunday morning brunch that was only $6.95 for guests and it was more than we could ever eat, all freshly prepared and we even had to go for the chocolate cake--for breakfast? Evenings watching dusk descend on the lake is awesome.

Room Tip: We always ask for a king size, ground floor room facing Elephant Butte Lake.
