This is a resort course located at Elephant Butte, just a few miles from T or C. It is so new that it does not yet have a driving range, though there is a putting green and chipping green. It also includes a nice restaurant which seemed to have as much business as the golf course when we were there.
It plays 7330 yds. and 5060 yds. from the tips, with at least three tees in between. The slope from the middle tees (6150 yds.) is 132. The fairways and greens were in exellent condition. The greens were true, fairly flat compared to many new courses I have played on, and the speed was neither fast nor slow.
The fairways had large landing areas, narrowing, sometimes considerably, toward the greens. They are also heavily and strategically bunkered. Along with several severe doglegs, and required carries over arroyos, the course is both interesting and challenging. Water comes into play on only a few holes, and as this is a new desert course, there are no trees. The desert, though, is unforgiving for errant shots.
The cost for two, with cart (which is needed as the distance from green to tee is very long on many holes) was $110 with tax in the spring of 2008.
We enjoyed the course a lot and will play it again on our next trip down southern NM way.
