5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2010

Coming home from Colorado with my adult daughter, we were trying to make Amarillo but only got about halfway. Hoping to find some place decent to stay in Clayton, NM, we saw the Best Western sign and decided to stop there. I wasn't hoping for much and was absolutely delighted at the Native American decor and friendly staff. Our room was clean and spacious, with a king sized bed, jet bathtub, nice-sized work table with multiple outlets for PC and other equipment, and large flat screen TV. The room was beautifully decorated in Southwestern theme and the bed was comfortable. Free breakfast buffet was out of the ordinary -- moist scrambled eggs, sausage patties, fresh biscuits, gravy, etc. We had to spend some time in the excellent gift shop, too, before we left! If there is any negative, it's that I awoke once in the night when a train passed nearby, but that's all. This motel is highly recommended and I will definitely stay there again!

It wasn't luxury but it was a good place to stay after a long day traveling and we couldn't go any further. It allowed s dog, which is a must for our little traveling group of girlfriends, as one of the women won't travel without her pet. They had the best breakfast of all those places that cater to travelers and advertise a "continental" but mean skimpy-to-nothing. This place actually had a pleasant diningroom area, freshly made eggs, bacon, etc. My girlfriends and I would recommend it, truly appreciate the clean atmosphere and more, but we paid over $100 per room only because there was no choice so late at night.

Stayed here on drive from Colorado to Dallas. Picked it based on the reviews here and we were not disappointed. The owners/managers here obviously take pride in the condition of the hotel and the service provided. Room was clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. Service was friendly. Hot breakfast was good and welcome in a town with limited options. Would definitely stay here again.

I expected this motel to be clean and conveniently located. However, I didn't expect it to have as much personality as it did. It more than met my expectations. The staff were all helpful and friendly.

The gift shop was a pleasant surprise.

Have stayed at the Kokopelli many times and are always impressed with how clean and well kept up the rooms are. People are super friendly and accommodating. On our recent stay the room appeared to be recently refurnished and the bathroom was all new. We started staying here because they allowed our dog and it is on our route to Colorado from Texas. You would never know a dog might have been in the room previously though -- from our experiences. The breakfast is great. Sadly, most restaurants in Clayton are now closed, including the once great Eklund Hotel/restaurant. Here's hoping the economy will turn around and it will help the locals revive this nice little town.

Stayed here last night driving from Austin -> Denver. Debated pushing onward but the great reviews on here (and elsewhere) convinced me otherwise. A good night's rest and their full breakfast were both tempting and the Kokopelli Lodge didn't disappoint. I though everyone loved it simply because there aren't many options in Clayton. Not true - all the positive reviews are true an it's a great place to stay.

Excellent bedding, great breakfast, super-friendly and helpful staff.....I look forward to going back. You won't be disappointed!

Picked this hotel based on trip advisor reviews and so glad I did. The rooms were huge - bathroom was clean and decor was simple and eclectic. Dinner and breakfast were complimentary! If you're looking for something to do, try the Clayton Lake state park for dinosaur prints and Capulin volcano for amazing views. We stayed at the Kokopelli lodge on a road trip to Colorado where we stayed at the Westin in Denver. My parents enjoyed our stay at Kokopelli so much that even the Westin didn't match up!!!!
