“Spirit, Healing and Beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Chimayo is filled with spirit, healing and beauty... Gracious unpretentious church with rounded edges that blends well with the land. There is a reverence for lost or ill people with many small crosses (some handmade), and photo's of them. A large room is filled with photo's, so is a small one near the side room off the Spanish art-filled alter and church. The healing soil can be obtained there in the side room. You can buy a container/bag at the gift shop for this. There are lovely grounds to walk behind the church that has a small river running alongside. It is filled with beautiful statues, and many rosaries hang from the trees, as does the fence along one wall. Colorful stained glass windows. A walkway along the river with several very large sculptured arches that have crosses in them - these are filled with tiny crosses too.... So peaceful to be there.

There are a couple of gift shops - with saint cards & medals, rosaries, religious statues. Restrooms. An easy walking area. Parking was not a problem, nearby/free. The Nino Church is less than a 5 minute walk from Chimayo... There are little shops and galleries as well on the street. The setting is rural and takes you back in time. The drive to Chimayo is on an easy winding road in this rural enchanting area. Don't miss this one!

“A visit made it special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

I enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the church. The little room with soil seemed a bit too "hokey" to me. Must you really rub soil on yourself to have a moment with your Lord? Especially when everywhere around you is the beauty of New Mexico and the good work of this church.

What made my visit incredible was the opportunity to visit with Fr Roca - the 95 year-old priest and former pastor. Just a chance meeting with him in one of the little cafés on the grounds. Fr Roca and the passion he put into the place out of his love and service to The Lord is what the Santuario is truly about. Thank you for such a lovely time, sir.

“Special Spiritual & Healing Site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

This holy shrine draws thousands of pilgrims who walk miles by foot during the Lenten season. However when we visited in late September it was very quiet. The daily 11am Mass was being celebrated in the very old adobe church so we were fortunate to attend. To the left of the chapel is a small room where the Healing Earth is available for all to take. You will leave this sacred site with a very special feeling!

If you are in the Santa Fe area a pilgrimage to Chimayo is a must. This is a very special place. It is spiritual and serene. The drive is well worth the experience.

“Beautiful Old Church with cultural significance!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

There is magical dirt in this church that has been known to cure infirmities. The ride to Chimayo from Santa Fe transports you from suburban to a rural setting. This village celebrates Christianity at Easter with people walking as far as they want to Chimayo, signifying the sacrifice Christ made for his fellowman. It is a celebration that any New Mexican can join if so moved. The Church is magical inside and shows centuries of religious folk art. It is worth a visit. Outside the church there are trading posts full of local crafts and eateries offering local chile fixes. There is a welcoming feeling in this village!
