“My body, mind & spirit met peace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

Make this pilgrimage no matter your faith, interests, state of well-being. Take your time here and let the sanctity of the place overcome your thoughts, ideas and notions. Move from one end of the church to the altar and anteroom slowly. Drink in the centuries of healing, hope and openness. Wait out the folks coming and going in the holy room and try to have it to yourself, kneel at the edge of the dirt pit and open up to the possibility of feeling its power. Take some of the dirt home with you [bring a baggie or two]. Walk around in the back area, visit the stream and pause. The peace here is palpable and lasts. Best Holy Chimayo Green Chili powder is across the street in the courtyard mercado. Your omelets will be infused with the holy spirit of incredible taste!

“Miraculous historical site, great to photograph”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

Chimayo is not so far out of the way if you are going through Esanola. Avoid tourist trap vendors as you approach the church unless you like that kind of junk and harassment. Take photos of this very old striking historic church which is a gem of a place to explore and stop to pray. Bless yourself with the holy water in front and the holy sand in back rear left side. You can even take some with you and share with friends. The inside is very quaint with rustic paintings of saints and down to earth atmosphere. Great looking to photograph with snow on the adobe building and walls and interesting front gate.

“A little uneasy with the tourism push”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2012

The santuario is quaint. I was very moved by the many pictures posted of people wishing prayer to be said for them. Clearly many devout people are attracted to this site. I just couldn't get over the gift shops and touristy aspects.

“A place of history, culture and prayer.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

This place is beautiful. Surrounded by mountains and a water stream. The walls reflect the history and beliefs of the early missioners. It feels very peaceful.
