“worth the visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

You don't have to be religious or believe in miracles to benefit from this special place. The detached sociologist will find the vivid expression of folk religion interesting, and the devout Christian will feel affected by a place to which so many have brought their hopes and pleadings. The wall of photographs of young people stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq, left by family members who are praying for their safe return, certainly made this historic place feel a lot less abstract.

“Not to be Missed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

This 200 year old or so hand-built church is perhaps the most adorable little church in America. Don't miss getting some of the dirt in a hole in the ground in an ante-room to the left of the altar. It supposedly can cure all your ills. It couldn't hurt!

“A perfect Christmas Day destination..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

While the regular service was going on in side this chapel, we wondered around the grounds. It was Christmas Day, snow was on the ground, and all was still. I am glad we visited today. Most of the businesses were closed (obviously), but if everything was open, I feel like this could easily seem like a tourist trap. It was a great place to stroll, think, and reflect on this day.

“A Beautiful Tranquil Spot”

The Church is beautiful and peaceful; Mass was simple yet profound and the surroundings absolutely incredible.

“Not Inviting At All”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2011

In a world of Spanish Missions and beautiful churches, this one left a lot to be desired. Firstly, the parking was all blocked off - except employee and handicapped. Not that there was a lack of parking down the street, but it was just telling that the staff considered themselves before they consider others. That attitude is pervasive across the entire experience.

I have been to cathedrals all over Europe.. missons in the southwest.. and I have rarely seen the number of signs telling you what you can't do...

All-in-all, I really wanted to like this place.. but I just.. didn't.
