“Not your typical Best Western”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Rooms were clean, staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Price was great (got the online special). We chose this hotel because it was the closest to Chaco Canyon. Ended up to be really nice, comfortable, pleasant experience. Would definitely go back.

Only drawback is that it is RIGHT on the highway. sometimes the truck noise filters into the room, but not bad. Still a great hotel!

Stayed here in August and I must say it was pretty nice.

HOT Breakfast is a must! Only place I know that has waffles made to order! WOW and YUMMY! The lady at the waffle station was super nice too!

PROS:
Excellent Hot Breakfast & fresh waffles
Nice big flat screen TV's - Cable TV
Microwave in suites
Quiet
Nice little workout room
Very clean

CONS:
Some rooms have an odor. We had to light a candle as soon as we entered and when we left.
+++Our first room was a suite on the second floor by the stairs, was great! We were moved into a regular room next to the elevators and it definitely had an odor.

Still it's the best place to stay in Bloomfield.

Must try Burritos y Mas, it's a small whole in the wall, but great burritos!
Durango Joe's breakfast burritos are YUMMY!!!! So good they sell out.

Room Tip: Must try the made to order waffles. YUMM!!

So happy you enjoyed all our accommodation! I would like to apologize about any odor found in your room. We will defiantly factor that into our housekeeping inspections. We want everyone's stay to be as comfortable as possible.

We have been visiting the USA for many years and this is one of the nicest hotels we have ever found and that includes Hiltons, Hamptons and Crown Plazas ! We heartily endorse all the positive comments from other guests and thoroughly enjoyed our four days here.

We absolutely love New Mexico and of the 21 States that we have visited so far New Mexico is right at the top. The hotel is ideally placed for driving to the most brilliant locations and Chaco and Masa Verdi National Parks are an absolute must, the former well worth the 21 mile unpaved road to reach it and the latter for outstanding views. We also drove the loop into Colorado spending time at the lovely little town of Silverton returning via Telluride, outstanding scenery especially as the trees were just turning colour.

A bit of a lack of decent eateries in Bloomfield - all the fast food outlets there probably not to British tastes (!) but a few minutes walk away is a Farmers Market with a decent deli with hot roast chickens and next door to it the Shell garage sells wine so it was happy picnics in the room watching the big screen HD TV.

All in all a brilliant four days and congratulations to all the hard working staff who made the stay so enjoyable.

We needed a place to stay before venturing forth to Chaco Canyon and based on our itinerary and schedule, Bloomfield fit the bill. I chose the Best Western Plus because it came up quickly in my searches, the price was right and it fit all of our requirements. It turned out to be one of our nicest hotels of our trip. It's very clean, has a spacious lobby, our room had enough space for a roll-away to be tucked out of the main traffic aisle. The a/c was very efficient, but not too noisy. The restaurant next door had great hamburgers and a lovely waitress. Best though was the "continental" breakfast in the morning. There were eggs, toast, oatmeal, dried cereal, all sorts of coffee with flavored creamers, but best were the gorgeous fresh strawberries and blueberries. To family who had been on the road for over a week, that fresh fruit was like manna from heaven. It was a great breakfast and it certainly helped prepare us for our day at Chaco Canyon which is only about 90 minutes away - an hour on a 75 mph freeway and then another 30 minutes on an unpaved, dirt road. If I were to return to this area, I'd stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat.

Late one evening on our way to the Navajo Dam and some fly fishing on the San Juan River, we decided to stay at the Best Western Plus Inn and Suites just off NM 550. We were greeted by a friendly desk clerk who gave us a quiet room on the 3rd floor located away from the highway. We were pleased to find a very large room with two (comfortable) queen beds, a very quiet air conditioner, and most importantly a window that can be opened at night. Be aware that the trade off for good nights sleep is the early morning barking by the ubiquitous packs of New Mexico dogs. No matter, since we were anxious to have an early start to our fly fishing expedition. We enjoyed a "healthy" breakfast with plenty of fresh strawberries, perfectly ripe bananas, and blueberries for our cereal. According to the management, the hotel is trying to encouraged its guest to try a more healthy approach to breakfast. As mentioned by mbkcrs in a recent review, the lobby and breakfast room are decorated by large WPA style murals that depict scenes of men and woman working around Bloomfield. The imagery was both colorful and bold, with energy and optimism that comes with a town where oil and gas exploration is its main business. According to the management the artist is somewhat like a "true grit" character, with paints in hand and wearing cowboy boots and a ten gallon hat. He travels (probably not on a horse) from place to place through out Texas and other parts of the Southwest, and earns a commission by painting murals showing local scenes. Since these paintings by "true grit" reminded me of the Mexican artist, Diego Rivera, I highly recommend staying at the Best Western just to see the murals. Also for the kids and the young at heart, ask the desk clerk to run the model train that circles the lobby. I'll definitely stay at the Best Western on my next fly fishing trip.

Room Tip: Upper rooms on the back side of the hotel, away from the highway

Hi David,
We were so thrilled you enjoyed our murals as much as you did! The hotel is very fortunate to have found such a talented individual as Mr Stylle Read to come in and capture our local atmosphere. We get a few folks that had just heard of the murals stopping in for a peak! We are very proud and pleased to have them in our lobby. Thank you so much for taking the time to elaborate a little about our lobby, breakfast and how you enjoyed your accommodations during your stay. We look forward to seeing you on your next trip!

This is a new hotel, staff friendly, kept very clean. Decorated very nice and warm. Pool area was great. Would definately stay again. Good variety for breakfast except they had no sugar for coffee or tea, clerk thought I was asking for something weird when I said are you serious you don't have sugar? She just looked at me.... I went to my room and got the pre packaged set for the room coffee and took the sugar from there.

I would like to apologize for not having sugar in the breakfast area. Our delivery was very late that day. My deepest apologies for the inconvenience. Thank you once again for the review and we hope to see you again.

We recently stayed in the Best Western in Bloomfield and attended the nearby Animas River Blues Festival. The hotel is on NM 550 and is on the way from New Mexico to Colorado towns such as Telluride and Durango.

The town of Bloomfield is small and dedicated to the oil and gas industry so I was surprised to find the hotel was so nice.

Our bed was so comfortable, the bathroom was sparkling clean and the staff was very nice. We had a mini-frig that kept our sodas and sandwiches ice cold. The air conditioning worked perfectly - something that was not working in another Best Western in Colorado in 90 degree August heat last year.

The hotel serves a small breakfast in the morning. It's pretty good considering it's included in the room charge, with plenty of cereals, toast, fruit, eggs and bacon. The indoor pool and hot tub are very nice too.

Also of interest, check out the wonderful murals of the local oil and gas industry in the lobby. The murals are done in sort of a vintage WPA style and can also be viewed up close from the second floor balcony. A train set runs along the molding too although I haven't seen it in motion.

We like this hotel and lot and will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: You might want to ask for a room in the back. Road noise didn't bother me and I didn't find...
