Most local restaurants serve New Mexican cuisine, which we dearly love. When a friends told about Lupes, he said it was clearly NOT New Mexican but food more like what you'd find in Mexico or Los Angeles. It's a small place, located in a strip mall, but is nice and clean inside. We were blown away by the extensive menu that included a number of items that sound fabulous for a dinner out. The house specialties are cooked in molcajete's, a stone casserole with all kinds of yummy ingredients. I can't wait to go back for the lamb molcajete one evening.
However, this visit was for just an early lunch so we opted for huevos rancheros and flautas - all very good. But the best discovery was some really delicious and authentic flan. Good flan is all but impossible to find, as most restaurants serve that little round custardy thing that tastes like it came from an instant mix. This was the square cuts of more of a cakey flan, which is so hard to find. Just fantastic. Look forward to going back soon!
