“Excellent and culinary refined place to stay in central Bhutan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2010

Very friendly family-run hotel in Jakar Village, central Bhutan with spacious, comfortable and quiet rooms. Attentive personnel, a good view of the Dzong and generous facilities: free coffee and tea, wifi and satellite tv in the reading room. The cook Karma serves a great range of Bhutanese and Indian dishes, and the proprietor Gasey is an extremely knowledgeable person who constantly aims for higher quality. Truly a hidden gem.

Jakar Village Lodge was among our favorite stops during 18 days in Bhutan. It is conveniently located for visiting the dzong, especially during the annual tsechu ... a short, but steep, climb - but no need to drive or park.

Our room was beautifully decorated with lovely traditional decor and accents and polished to perfection. Quiet compared to most other in-town locations across the country. Thoughtful staff.

Had good luck with Wi-Fi in the morning. A rarity.

Charming dining room, good service. Small deck. Real coffee. Proud of using local products including buckwheat, honey, jams ... and of course, rice!

Amiable owner/host who personally greeted every guest at every meal ... because of his long high public service history, he could answer not only the typical tourist question but took the time to give careful, in depth answers and personal insight for questions regarding Bhutan's political past and future, hydroelectric power, business development, economics and potential. He contributed another dimension to make our trip to Bhutan an incredible experience.

Great hotel- rooms fabulous-very comfortable The food we had heard was the best in Bhutan and lived up to its promises. The owner was so attentive and informative. We stayed here 3 nights and were upgraded to the best rooms- it was a real good find in the midst of a great trip to Bhutan.

Hotel situated on a hill above Jakar city in walking distance to the dzong of Jakar. The room was very comfortable, everything working well. Electrical heating was available, very pleasant after a hike on a rainy day.
Very good restaurant with excellent service, even if you have unusual extra wishes.

Jakar Village Lodge is well equipped, the rooms decor is tasteful and imaginative and the toilets are spotlessly clean and well equipped. The gracious host, a retired officer of the Royal Bhutanese Army, took personal care of us (as he did with the other guests present during our stay) and was very keen to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. His warmth and hospitality set the tone and tenor of our experience. The staff were courteous and efficient. The lodge itself is well located with a stunning view of the fort that lies just above it and that is beautifully lit at night. This was one of the most comfortable and enjoyable places of stay during our holiday in Bhutan.

The family run hotel is lovely. Rooms in local style ie wood on the walls and a bit dark and small but nicely deco and clean.

The owner is a good storyteller, used to be the administrator of the local Dzong and familiar with the King's. Great food prepared by one of the daugthers.

Gasey, the owner of Jakar Viillage Lodge had clevely built his cosy lodge in such a manner that it fits perfectly well amidst a quaint and charming village. The rooms are well maintained, sheets clean and plenty of hot water from the showers. Gasey is highly knowledgeble and in my opinion, is a true personifcation of Bhutanese hospitality. His team is courteous and attentive.
His daugther cooks delicious Bhutanese food and is also just as adept if you are pining for your regular scrambled eggs and toasts. There is plenty of food during meals . Cofee is always made from freshly grounded coffee beans - look out for a "pencil sharpener-like" coffee grinder attached to the wall near the buffet table. If you prefer tea, there is a whole variety to select from as well.
Do rememer to take a walk to the terrace where you can have a perfect shot of Jakar Dzong. We strongly recommend another trip there in the night when the dzong is lighted - indeed a lovely sight to behold - anothe perfect shot!
Rememnber to take a walk just outside the Lodge in the late afternoon when the kids are making their way home after school . They are warm and freindly with ever-willing smiles which will touch your heart.
