“Swiss feeling in Bhutan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

Spacious room with good beds and a little wood stove for heating. Good hot shower. Lovely breakfast with homemade bread, jam, honey and of course cheese. Friendly staff. We had raclette and thoroughly enjoyed it after two weeks of rice, mixed vegetables and chicken.
I will recommend this hotel to aanyone travelling in Bhutan.

quite nice guest house with family ambiente but unfortunately the owners did not show or greet, unfortunately no view as the trees are too high, the food was rather poor, especially the quality of the meat.
Very good cheese, homemade bread and jams in the morning.

This rating is only for the restaurant - we didn't stay there. The idea of a fondue and raclette in Bhumthang is too exotic to pass, so we had lunch there. The fondue did not come with the usual accompaniments, but it was decent enough. The draught beer is good. The decor is Swiss-chalet style, leaning on the 'very basic' side. Unfounded rumours said some years ago, the author of Seven Years in Tibet ran into the Swiss owner of Swiss Guest House and said "Harrer, seven years in Tibet". Our Swiss expat, having never heard of that book, answered "Maurer, twenty years in Bhutan!" He has married a Bhutanese lady and does speak Dzhongkha.

We stayed here for 3 days & absolutely loved it. As an Indian it gave me the feeling of living on a farm. There are apple trees all around. The food ( fixed menu) is absolutely awesome. The owner stays at the premises & I guess that's the reason to the great hospitality & finger licking food. We wanted to celebrate our friends birthday & the owner very sweetly arranged for a home made cake which was again really nice. They can also arrange for your own little camp fire & have a private party if you desire. Panda beer is available by the tap. All in all great rooms, great food, great hospitality - u cannot ask for more. I had written the first half whilst I was staying at the hotel. However I would like to add a word of caution when it comes to billing. We were told dinner buffet per person would be priced at INR 400 per person, however at the end of the trip in the invoice we were charged INR 500, per person. We were 4 of us & we had 3 meals hence the difference was substantial. Also the coffee is not part of the breakfast & is charged at INR 80/- per cup. One last thing on the night before leaving I had checked with sonam Maurer the owner for the cost of a packed sandwich & she had said INR 150/- however in the bill she charged us INR 190/-. Thus please ensure you'll get a daily bill & not wait for the bill at the end of your stay

A beautifully designed bed and breakfast type of hotel surrounded by apple and plum trees. We loved the ambiance and the hospitality of the staff. The problem we faced was that there are no phones in the rooms and getting anything in means walking for 5 minutes. That makes life difficult at times.

We spent two nights here. The location of the Guest House provided great views and we walked down through the woods to the river (and the brewery) at the beginning of a wonderful long walk to visit various temples. Having read previous reviews we were prepared for the Swiss feeling in the Bhutan mountains, but it was nevertheless a little bizarre. The room was fine (though we would have preferred a double bed rather than 2 singles) with a wood burning stove. Wifi was only available in the dining room and bandwidth was stretched at busy meal times - but again acceptable given the infrastructure in Bhutan. The food was similar to most other places we stayed with a Swiss flavour of course and lots of homemade jams, juices etc which made a pleasant change. Other visitors seemed intrigued by the possibility to have a fondue, though that didn't appeal to us. We tried and enjoyed the Red Panda beer.
