“For the price it was an excellent choice.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

I have read some of the bad reviews and I have to disagree this was a very inexpensive hotel, and really got a lot of bang for the buck. I did also have trouble with the television but I had breakfast and left for the day to tour the beautiful island and returned for the evening to have dinner, which was ok to very good depending on the day, by the way the meals were included in the low price. The staff was friendly and tryed hard to understand my english. This could not be offered anywhere in the states for twice the price. and btw the place has a lot of Charm.

Room Tip: don't be afraid to have them dim some of the outdoor lights. and get a room away from the frog...

The Charm resort was my second choice on the island and it was a second mistake. I choose a room in special price for 25$, the rooms in normal prices look the same like discount ones. The room standard was typically vietnamese. Dirty, stinky not cozy but I expect this. I didn't expect mini zoo in the room. I spend a night with gekon, lizard, spider and with some smaller instects. Anyway the resort looks as abandoned- no guests and bored staff. The Charm is really terrible place without swimmingpool or even beach access. The "public" beach is near from resort but is very small and dirty. I see no sense to stay in Charm.

We stayed here after Vietnam Airlines overbooked our flight and placed us here for a night. There are few good things to say about this place.

The room was very average with very little lighting, a 2cm gap between the doors as others have mentioned, a TV that did not work, patches all over the roof and a shower head that was somehow built ridiculously low so that anyone over 150cm will be uncomfortable using it.
The Wifi did not work at all and despite complaints from myself and other guests was not fixed during my stay.

The dinner was also terrible with very bland food, dirty table cloths and condescending waiters.

One or two receptionists did their best to help us out but their was little they could do in such a terrible place.

Overall , Charm resort has zero charm and I would not recommend it to anyone.

My, advise is no matter how cheap the deal is on the Internet don't book, check the place out first, we walked in off the street to book for seven nights and the room we saw was terrible. Dirty looking smelly with damp walls, from outside it looked great. Poss. They have a couple of blocks one one we were shown to maybe doubles up as staff accomadation because a lot of staff were hanging out smoking on the steps. It is in a good location for other bars etc. terrible place.

We arrived in Duong Dong at dusk and booked into this place for one night rather than search for anywhere better in the dark. The room we were given on the ground floor had double glass doors which didn't close properly and horrible dirty curtains. There was only one, energy saving, bulb in the three ceiling lights which didn't give enough light to even read with.

We went for a drink at the bar and there were about five staff hanging around there with nothing to do as we seemed to be the only guests. One of the staff was asleep on the billiards table. There were another five staff outside the spa with nothing to do.

We were woken at 6am by loud piped music from the restaurant. In the daylight it was obvious that this place was getting jaded, with rotting lamp shades, blinds and curtains. We went for our breakfast which was included in the room rate but were asked to pay extra because we ordered coffee. There were three choices of Vietnamese dishes and one of these was not available. We felt the staff were disinterested and unhappy and lacked management.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

within an hour of arriving there was a giant millipede walking across the floor, about 15cm like something from the jungle- literally! we managed to scoot it outside and hoped it was a one off random, but then we realised that the glass doors (in the glass fronted bungalow- no frosting) had gaps 2cm at the bottom so any old thing could wonder in, and the bathroom also did not have a window just wooden slats so inviting insects and mosquitos. when we went to leave for dinner we opened the door to be greeted by a nest of giant millipedes under the door!!! I was petrified and we went reception to ask to change rooms, they said they were fully booked except one room a few doors down which they moved us to. it seemed okay and no nest on the doorstep so we went off for dinner. when we returned (to the new room) we found a giant hairy spider in the shower. neither of us wanted to touch it and no-one around the hotel to help so we had to go to bed, it was then that i saw another giant millipede walking up the terrible brick wall of the room (insect camo heaven). that was the last straw. my boyfriend had to attack and kill it- which took some force and was horrible! by this point the spider had come into the room. i didnt sleep at all that night just sat with a torch in my silk bag. we checked out the morning and moved to arcadia resort which was lovely and no nasty surprises.

do not stay here unless you are happy to have a few uninvited friends in the room!!!

Room Tip: do not stay here

Friends Tourist agency booked us into this horrible hotel. We refused to stay. Trying to book thru Agoda was useless, the Charm computers had not overcome the millennium bug! They were stuck on 1988! That made them useless, you could not change the date so could not book anything else.
Besides the power went off. When we returned to the room to collect our things, no power, no cool drinks
The staff did not understand or didn't want to. When we checked in we handed in our passports. When we said we were not staying they said we did not hand them in! Ages later, they were found.
The rooms prison-like, mouldy, the drain covers were off. There is a pergola in the centre where people should loudly and spray-painting, paint going everywhere.
A resort? I think not, that's a joke! I would give this dump a miss, is not worth $10 a night. Some rooms have glass fronts, so no privacy.
No views, about 2klms from the village on a busy road and miserable staff, brick walls, no power, mouldy fittings, closed in rooms, grotty bathrooms and poor maintenance make for a miserable 'resort' holiday! There are plenty of cheaper hotels with views and near the beach. The beach is about a metre wide full of plastic bags and rubbish anyway.

Room Tip: Try elsewhere. Worst hotel ever!
