“Tired resort, no guests and bored staff.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We arrived in Duong Dong at dusk and booked into this place for one night rather than search for anywhere better in the dark. The room we were given on the ground floor had double glass doors which didn't close properly and horrible dirty curtains. There was only one, energy saving, bulb in the three ceiling lights which didn't give enough light to even read with.

We went for a drink at the bar and there were about five staff hanging around there with nothing to do as we seemed to be the only guests. One of the staff was asleep on the billiards table. There were another five staff outside the spa with nothing to do.

We were woken at 6am by loud piped music from the restaurant. In the daylight it was obvious that this place was getting jaded, with rotting lamp shades, blinds and curtains. We went for our breakfast which was included in the room rate but were asked to pay extra because we ordered coffee. There were three choices of Vietnamese dishes and one of these was not available. We felt the staff were disinterested and unhappy and lacked management.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

within an hour of arriving there was a giant millipede walking across the floor, about 15cm like something from the jungle- literally! we managed to scoot it outside and hoped it was a one off random, but then we realised that the glass doors (in the glass fronted bungalow- no frosting) had gaps 2cm at the bottom so any old thing could wonder in, and the bathroom also did not have a window just wooden slats so inviting insects and mosquitos. when we went to leave for dinner we opened the door to be greeted by a nest of giant millipedes under the door!!! I was petrified and we went reception to ask to change rooms, they said they were fully booked except one room a few doors down which they moved us to. it seemed okay and no nest on the doorstep so we went off for dinner. when we returned (to the new room) we found a giant hairy spider in the shower. neither of us wanted to touch it and no-one around the hotel to help so we had to go to bed, it was then that i saw another giant millipede walking up the terrible brick wall of the room (insect camo heaven). that was the last straw. my boyfriend had to attack and kill it- which took some force and was horrible! by this point the spider had come into the room. i didnt sleep at all that night just sat with a torch in my silk bag. we checked out the morning and moved to arcadia resort which was lovely and no nasty surprises.

do not stay here unless you are happy to have a few uninvited friends in the room!!!

Room Tip: do not stay here

Friends Tourist agency booked us into this horrible hotel. We refused to stay. Trying to book thru Agoda was useless, the Charm computers had not overcome the millennium bug! They were stuck on 1988! That made them useless, you could not change the date so could not book anything else.
Besides the power went off. When we returned to the room to collect our things, no power, no cool drinks
The staff did not understand or didn't want to. When we checked in we handed in our passports. When we said we were not staying they said we did not hand them in! Ages later, they were found.
The rooms prison-like, mouldy, the drain covers were off. There is a pergola in the centre where people should loudly and spray-painting, paint going everywhere.
A resort? I think not, that's a joke! I would give this dump a miss, is not worth $10 a night. Some rooms have glass fronts, so no privacy.
No views, about 2klms from the village on a busy road and miserable staff, brick walls, no power, mouldy fittings, closed in rooms, grotty bathrooms and poor maintenance make for a miserable 'resort' holiday! There are plenty of cheaper hotels with views and near the beach. The beach is about a metre wide full of plastic bags and rubbish anyway.

Room Tip: Try elsewhere. Worst hotel ever!

Although further from the beach than a lot of places, it was only a 5 min walk. Our room (a private bungalow) was lovely, nice and spacious. Bathroom clean and the towels fluffy (we seemed to have has a bad run of super thin towels) We had looked at several bungalows on the beach but decided the super cool aircon and large tv outweighed the walk. It was a bit more expensive US$65 but we wanted to treat ourselves. We also really enjoyed cruising up and down the alleyway next door finding things much cheaper than the beach front. Breakfast was average but hey it was included. Nice gardens and beautiful pond with Koi and super loud frogs, WIsh we could have found one! Our main problem was we wish we had more time. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a private bungalow.

We have booked in advance from agoda and the price is very high for the accomodation far away from the beach . we stay in first floor of the hotel and at the first evening when under shower the water dont flush any more. No water in whole hotel. Also there was not clean, brown towels and blankets terrible. We must move to another part of resort on the street in a aquarium room. This room is with five big doors/windows half clear glass half matted glass. Terrible no privacy. When I complain to the staff they say is the same same room like 10 minutes ago. Is not the same is the worst room we have in our trip. I ask to give money back for one day(we pay for two what a mistake). No way the dont spek english only one guy does. The breakfast in the morning very very poor only one food and one drink. The eggs was not good the bacon was tottaly cold also the grilled tomato. The same was a second day. Good thanks we moved to the beach in nicer and cheaper resort behind the roks on the end of long beach. Thai Tan Thien. Perfect and very nice, clean and friendly. If you like yourselfe dont go to Charm Resort Phu Quock. There is alot of better and cleaner resort next to the beach and also cheaper.

When you arrive at this hotel you have the first impression that it is luxurious and very zen style...then you enter and you notice that maintenance wasn't a priority: the lamps are half broken, the little pool in front of the reception is empty...That is said, the staff is nice and the rooms aren't bad at all: they have cable tv and AC and are nice and clean. Other good thing is that the hotel is just 5 minutes from the beach and next to a nice alley full of restaurants. The breakfast is not so bad (but avoid butter and bread. Local dishes or pancakes are better). I would suggest to try to get a discount and eat in one of the nearest restaurants anyway :) If you want something nicer you can go to the hotels on the beach but they cost 2 or 3 times more. Sometimes they are not better. We went to another hotel on the beach, near there, double price, and it wasn't clean nor had better service. It was also full of mosquitos and when I told the girl at the reception, she just said :"No" (no what? so I showed my arms with 30 bites each, average...) and when I asked for a mosquito spray she said again "No!", but that seems to be a typical answer when they don't understand. One suggestion: learn to laugh at that answer: don't ruin your holiday. I can't remember the name of the hotel, it was a Vietnamese name, sorry I can't be more helpful...

Room Tip: Take a room with a window, they are nicer.

Nice garden and pure air.
The room was small but clean.
Staffs were friendly and helpful.
Convenient location: just take 5 mins to the beach, near by travel agency, bike rent, as well as many delicious Western style restaurants, especially Oasis.
But the breakfast is so poor, we just have breakfast at hotel once and then ran away to other local restaurants.
