“Nice hotel but not without it's limitations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2011

Stayed at this place with my partner for a night in early December 2011. We booked in advance (although only 1 week in advance) and they only had one night available so we took it. Paid 35US for a seaview bungalow.

PRO'S
This place meets all my key 5 criteria for a good budget hotel. Namely
1. Hot water (which works)
2. Comfortable bed
3. Clean/hygienic
4. Air conditioning (not air conditioned but because of the proximity to the beach it was nice and cool)
5. Wifi (although you would need to walk to the restaurant to get it).

In addition, the staff are friendly, the service is good and the restaurant food is nice (mango shakes to die for). The beach DIRECTLY IN FRONT of the hotel is nice.

CON'S
The beach club isn't located on the main section of long beach. It is essentially around a small headland. It is next to a place called Paris Hotel but the space on it's other side is empty. Although it seems great to be in a place that is 'out of the way' this infers a number of disadvantages, namely.
1. If you want to go drinking at night (which many budget travelers do) you will more than likely have to walk around 1km up the beach to a place like 'amigo bar'. It can be dangerous walking back at night because it is hard to see and on a high tide the water actually covers the beach and you have to walk in mid-calf depth water, which after drinking can be a bit hazardous.
2. Although it seems paradoxical the best beaches in Phu Quoc are those with the most amount of hotels/resorts. This is because all year around garbage floats in from the Gulf of Thailand and for lack of caring/initiative the Vietnamese don't clean it up. Therefore, although the beach in front of the beach club is nice, the beach section next to it (a empty block) is covered in garbage. Also if you go to the other side of the Paris Hotel you will once again have plenty of garbage to greet you.

Would I recommend it to others?
Yes, but note the limitations above. If you want to be on the main drag/can't get accommodation for the length of your stay here and want to still be in budget accommodation there is plenty of other budget options, particularly a cluster of half a dozen hotels on the south end of the beach (just around the corner from the headland you can see from the beach club). These are Lien Hiep Thanh (my recommendation - see my other review), Vien Thang (NOT recommended), another (whose name I can't recall) that is next to Vien Thang, Amigo's (also a bar). NOTE - AVOID THOUSAND STARS which is just next to the headland, it has 2 stars on TA.

We stayed here for 8 nights in nov-dec 2011. If you're looking for a great place to relax away from the crowds and don't want to pay too much about that, this is the place to be. If you want partying or luxury, this is nor for you. We enjoyed every moment. Be aware: this place is fully booked all the time from november until the end of the high season. Every day we saw backpackers asking for rooms with no result. And do believe me: the restaurant has probably the best vegetarian dishes in the island!

We stayed there end of October 2011 for 10 nights and had a fantastic time. We had bungalow number 1 directly on the beach. Weather was pretty good with thunderstorms at night but it was gorgeous during the day most of the time.
As mentioned in other reviews, if you need AC, a fridge, or TV don't go there, you get a plain clean big living/bed room and a bathroom. The bed has a mosquito net and 2 strong fans are provided to cool you off.
The staff is very friendly and will help with any requests. We liked the food in the restaurant, the seafood is excellent and the pancakes are very yummy.
The Beach Club is 4 km from the town of Duong Dong, you can take a taxi to go there, rent a motorbike, or walk. We walked a couple of times into town, it is a nice 45 min walk along the beach, at the end of the beach you can just walk through one of the resorts to the main street. For the way back you have a choice of taking a taxi or just get some more exercise and walk back as well.
The beach in front of the Beach Club is pretty narrow but they provide lounges on the sand on the property for their guests, so this wasn't a problem for us.
For the price, Beach Club provides great value and we enjoyed our stay there. It was the perfect place to relax at the end of a 75 days trip on the Trans Siberian and Chinese railways.

Room Tip: We liked the seaside bungalow, we suggest getting one of those even if it costs a bit more.

This was the first time I used tripadvisor when planning a holiday. I spent a lot of time looking at all the reviews of the hotels on the island, and then selected Beach Club as it seemed to match what we were looking for - a little bit of paradise without being too "western hotel on a beach" but not "backpacker sparse".

The hotel was AMAZING. Having spent 8 days in Phu Quoc, we walked all along Long Beach (plus seeing a lot of the other resorts and trying their food), I would still go only to Beach Club. You get a great room which is literally 10 seconds from the beach. The town (Duong Dong), is about 4 km away, and all along Long Beach from the two are resorts. The first parts of the beach closer to the down are covered in hotels, and we noticed the beach isn't as nice. The water has garbage in it (think bottles, plastic bags, takeaway containers, etc), and you don't feel the same degree of privacy as Beach Club. Only a 10-15 minute walk further is Beach Club, which is beside Paris Beach Resort, and that's it. There are long stretches of beautiful sand with virtually no people (we were there in Nov, so it was off-season), but still, it was pristine and calm.

There are options of a bungalow and a room, and we had a room, which was more than enough space. Clean, big, lots of hammocks and sun-loungers, no complaints there. There isn't air con here, so it can get a bit hot, but we had two high-powered fans which pointed directly at our bed, so we were fine.

There is no pool, but honestly, who needs it? You can go out into beautiful water that is warm and inviting, and then rinse off with their outdoor showers. I really don't think a pool can beat that.

Now, onto the staff. These are the most friendly people you will meet. They were at our beck and call (if we wanted), but we got to know them and they even took my fiancé to play a game of football with the local fisherman, at no cost. When my partner tried to offer some money or to pay for the petrol, the staff said "oh no, we just wanted to take you and come watch football, it's no problem!" They can also arrange any tours for you, as we went snorkelling with Rainbow Divers (the best on the island).

The food is also very good, although the food next door at Paris Resort is amazing, so we got the best of both worlds. You can walk 10 minutes down the beach (towards the town), and you'll come to a string of restaurants as well, which are much, much cheaper, with still good food. So again, best of everything!

Some of the other more expensive resorts on the Island (and the Paris Resort as well), tack VAT and service onto the bill, so it ends up being more money than it appears. Beach Club does not.

We would highly recommend their food, especially the mango and coconut shakes!

I can't say enough about this resort. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and don't think that anyone should say that it 'being farther away' is a downside. I think it's a huge plus!

This is definitely a great resort for friends, couples or someone going solo. Good mix of people, calm and casual, but close to all the action.

Make sure to book ahead of time!

Room Tip: Any of them are great. They are a small and well-managed resort.

Rooms are big, but all fairly close together and literally right on top on the beach, not a great deal of privacy. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Food is really good Vietnamese, would recommend the squid stuffed with pork. Good place to use as a base and hire a moped to explore the north and south of the island. But be prepared for a bumpy journey, the roads are dusty and full of potholes, although they are building all over Phu Quoc at the moment, so that may improve, not sure if that will be for the better!! Great sunset views. The early morning diesel fishing boats may wake you, but that's probably unavoidable anywhere on Long Beach.

This hotel is definitely a good value. Rooms were clean. There was no a/c in the rooms (there may be in the bungalows), but 2 big fans. The staff was very friendly and helped us arrange tours and rent motorbikes and bicycles.

The resort has an area for lying out with views of the sea, but you have to walk down some steps to get to the water. The main beach area is about a 10-15 minute walk away on the beach (but beware you either have to get very wet walking in the water to get to the main beach or climb over a small fence). The resorts on the main beach are much more expensive, so this was a great deal. Its still a beautiful view from the hotel and you can lie out on beach chairs and see the water splashing just a few feet away.

Food is ok, but there is better food in town. Try Mondo!

This is a great place to chill out as there isn’t much to do in the rainy season. Storms rolled in most days we were there, some with torrential downpours, but enjoyed brief respites of clearer weather. Surf was very rough so we couldn’t go swimming. Maybe in the dry season it is calmer. The staff is very nice and helpful. My husband and I walked the main road every day to get some exercise—the lane connecting the resort to the main road was flooded a bit but was navigable. The large room was basic—fan only, shower, mosquito net over bed, though we didn’t encounter any bugs, small round table and two chairs. Bed was decent. The rooms are so close to the water that you can hear the crash of the surf. WiFi worked except the better part of one day when the power was out. They don’t take credit cards but ATMs are located down the road, about half-way to town.
The simple food on the menu was good, with fantastic crepe-style pancakes and wonderful fresh fruit plate for breakfast. Typical rice and noodle dishes were good for lunch and dinner, but treat yourself to a meal at the night market in town at least once—huge prawns and grilled bits of savory beef and pork on a sugar cane stick.
Overall, good value for US$20/night for two people.

Room Tip: It's probably best to visit in the dry season.
