“Nice Resort but food must improve”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We like the place for his nice colonial architecture and great location on long beach.
We visited La Veranda recently to try the food at the beach cafe. The pizza was not good. The crust too bready and toppings not well spread.
Overall we found the food far from justifying the price level.

There is a Filipino band playing the classic international standard with talent.
We enjoyed the atmosphere overall also thanks to the space kept between tables.

The waiter could not speak English. Unacepptable for a resort of this class and this price.

Beautiful and enjoyable place but food and service must improve at the beach cafe.

We plan to come again to try the restaurant located at the main building.
We will share here our feedback.

This is our fourth day in Paradise sitting on a lovely white sandy beach.
The hotel La Veranda Resort is a charming colonial hotel. Our room was beautifully
furnished and very comfortable. We had a small verandah overlooking a peaceful garden.
The food is excellent in both the hotels restaurants and there is a very good breakfast.
There is a lovely bar that offers a variety of cocktails along with excellent entertainment
overlooking the ocean. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. The big problem
has actually been leaving the hotel to go sightseeing because the experience has been
so perfect for us.

Room Tip: The night markets are a must see.

We arrived at La Veranda in Phu Quoc after a few days' sightseeing in Saigon and were delighted to find that it exceeded all our expectations. This was our second trip to Vietnam but the first time in the South. We wanted to have a really relaxing break from the horrors of a very cold English winter so we booked for 12 days at La Veranda. The gardens are really beautiful, filled with lush shrubs and trees, with wonderful tropical flowers and the perfume in the evenings was superb. The site of the hotel is quite small but it felt spacious, with wandering paths through the gardens, small villa-style buildings and larger buildings on the boundaries. Nonetheless, even though the hotel was full throughout our stay, it never felt full of people. Plentiful sunbeds around the pool and on the gorgeous white sandy beach, staff to bring towels and drinks, an outdoor cafe for lunches and snacks and a wonderful terrace overlooking the garden and beach for breakfast ensured a very relaxing day. The food was superb with a large plentiful and varied buffet for breakfast, several buffets served at dinnertime on the beach in the evenings as well as a good restaurant meant that it was very tempting to stay within the hotel all the time. Our room, near the reception lobby, was spacious enough for us, with a good sized shower room and balcony overlooking the garden with comfortable chairs.
We both had a massage in the Spa and i had manicures and pedicure; the staff were good and with the new spa being built, the facilities will match!
We took the minibus into the little town nearby to sample supper in the market - a great experience and naturally very much cheaper than the hotel restaurant. We also hired a taxi (with the help of the hotel) to visit two other beaches for lunch and swimming. The beaches on Phu Quoc are amazingly beautiful, clean and almost empty. Not so many of the Vietnamese spoke good English but we made ourselves understood, and in the hotel there were always people around who could help out if language was a problem.
Costs in Vietnam are cheaper than in many comparable places and we felt that we had a really luxurious holiday at a very reasonable cost. We can't wait to go again!

Room Tip: This is not a hotel that attracts many families. Noise was not an issue and the rooms all seemed to...

We finished our tour of Vietnam with a fabulous stay at La Veranda. 5 Nights flew by as we relaxed, got pampered and toured the island of Phu Quoc. Yes, La Veranda is a little more expensive than other Island options but we found it great value for money. Beautiful gardens, picture perfect beach, the sea was like bathing in a warm bath, fantastic breakfast buffet with every option imaginable, friendly and welcoming staff plus considering it's a five star hotel the spa was very reasonably priced (much cheaper than London options!)
It was total relaxation and indulgence to end our perfect trip.

The only thing they could improve on ( but this is nit picking) is to get the staff to roam the beach and pool asking for drink orders. We always had to track people down when we were in need of refreshment. Their fresh watermelon juice was out of this world!

The gardens were stunning, full of bright tropical flowers. The food, facilities and service were all excellent. The beach was good and the swimming great in warm clear water, calm in the early morning when we like to swim. The only problem with the beach was the rubbish, not too bad in front of the hotel but very bad either side and on every other beach we visited on the island. This is a Phu Quoc Island community problem to solve if it wants to attract international tourists.
The air conditioning in our room was noisy and made it difficult to sleep.

Set within magnificent scented gardens, La Veranda offers everything for a restful and comfortable beach holiday. The rooms are lovely, the service friendly (if not always comprehending English or any other European language), and the food terrific.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, so there is no need to spring for the expensive ones.
