“Scuba dive trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

We went there with family a total 9 persons.
The rooms are low standard and the whole resort show time of age, buy again it have some kind of personality to it that is appealing. But in genneral for a family weekend its not the right place due to the low standard of rooms.
Resturant is ok. We did not eat there so much.
The staff is very frindly and the dive senter is very good.
Dive staff is some of the nicest persons. Dive sight is the best fir wreck dive.
Dive equipment well maintained and nice boat for the dives.
We will Deffently go there again for diving, but properly stay on a diffrent place.

We do renovate all the rooms every 5 years, this new renovation on the 10th year anniversary of the resort is on going right now and the rooms are for 80% finish, we will finish completely by February of this year. We got all kinds of rooms with different prices starting at P700 up to P2500, we know there is a whole lot of difference in price, size, location and beach view between these rooms.
I do not know any western restaurant where you can bring your own food or drinks, we have the largest choice of foods and drinks to enjoy your stay with us and use our beach and restaurant area. Belgium fries are different than Mac Donald fries, that is why we put this page in our menu book to explain the difference in shape and how to cook them, you have to understand that we got our customers from all over the world to eat here.
If the free WIFI is low speed than is this the problem from the provider, we placed 8 routers in our resort to give you a good reception. In this area of the Philippines we give you the best speed we can get, some days are great other days are slow even for us.
We have beautiful weather for the last 5 weeks, no rolling or rocking of our dive boats, perfect conditions for diving.
We did not in any way get your information on a lost dive bag, how can you carry your diving equipment out of our resort to see later that your missing your dive bag? Nobody here steal dive bags because there is a PADI card in it, nor do we steal tools. All our dive staff are working with us for many years and lost or forgotten equipment are placed on the side to return to the owner.
Best regards,
Johan

The rooms are dingy and shabby, so don't stay here unless you're a SCUBA diver.. But the restaurant is fantastic, and open 24/7. They have some 15 or 20 Belgian beers, if you can believe that. And everything I ate was delicious, well-prepared and presented. Large portions made it even better. And the prices were very reasonable, compared to Manila.

Room Tip: I'm not sure there are any good rooms. The only ones I saw ran off of a wet, dimly-lit corridor...

Thanks for the compliments of our restaurant and bar.
We have all kinds of rooms with prices from P700 to P2500 but none has a wet dimly corridor. We had bright lights in the passage ways but than guests where complaining about the light when they want to sleep, so we changed them to warm white. Next time you can ask to see all the different kinds of rooms, just ask the reception.

Best regards

The resort is showing it's age due for renovation.
Not sure how anybody can rate this place high at it's current condition.
The rooms are in poor condition and all the charm of the small beach front resorts are gone.
Ants and other bug problems due to cooking in the room.

Dive shop was small, chaotic with stuff hanging and spewed everywhere.
You constantly bump elbows with other divers in the dive shop as well as on the boat.
Divers were loosing stuff or getting it stolen by other divers.

In the morning you can watch all the Filipino bar girls doing the walk of shame out of guest rooms.

The worst part of it was the owners take it or leave it attitude.
It really didn't seem to matter if small things could be changed for guests.
It was not appreciated if you spoke up.
They get plenty of guests from over seas who come here to SCUBA dive, sleep with bar girls and pass out drunk in the filthy rooms.

There are plenty of better resorts and similar price in this area with better attitude and appreciate you being their guest. Even if you're coming here to dive a bit, sleep with bar girls and pass out drunk, other resorts are nicer with owners with better attitude.

Room Tip: Stay next door at treasure island or any of the other resorts!

We got all kinds of rooms with different prices starting at P700 up to P2500, we know there is a whole lot of difference in price, size, location and beach view between these rooms. Ants and bugs do visit us as they do in every resort and home, if they show up they are taking care of.
Our dive shop platform is huge 10 meters by 4,5 meters, there must be a lot of divers there to go elbow to elbow. The dive equipment do hang around to dry and there might be 20 to 30 equipment per day depending on how many dives we make. Our 4 dive boats are 7 meters up to 11 meters long and divers are placed next to each other, we might have full boats. We have no record of divers stealing from other divers but divers do loose small equipment under water and is sometimes found and returned.
Most of the guests in our family resort we know personally, newcomers might be with there wives, family, children, girlfriend or new girlfriend, this is a matter of personal opinion and is left to the guest.
If you have personal small things you want to change we can help you but if you want to change things against our rules and regulations we can't help you, these are implemented over the years to help and protect our guests, not to harm you.
People come to our resort to have fun and relax after there hard work from anywhere in the world and we should be open to everybody's way to do this, against our principals or not, we live in a free world and we want to keep it like that. As long as people behave we will allow them to join our hospitality.
One of your recommended resorts has a floating bar in front of the resort and have 6 bars in town, you better check this out before you recommends a sin free resort.

Best regards,

Johan

I have been coming to Johan's Resort since they moved to this location. I stay here because of the dive shop, but it is also a beach resort where visitors can just relax on the beach or enjoy the water sports equipment that they have available. The restaurant is great with a wide selection and daily specials. ALL of the staff is excellent from the front desk, to the bar, to the hotel, to the dive shop. Johan's is a community gathering spot with pool tournaments, dart tournaments, etc.... so there are always new local people to meet. Johan, his wife and staff have built the kind of small resort that they would like to stay at when they are on Holiday - comfortable, clean and reasonably priced. I like it!!

food was ok till i tried the "homemade" pizza what i got after half and hour waiting time is a fast-food pizza out of the freezer, heated up and served cold mmmmh... (AWFUL!!!)
the owner is often drunk and you cant have normal discussion with him...
the accommodation is really noisy and the groups drinking beer are always the preferred.

We cook our freshly made pizza for 10 years now and we never bought one frozen pizza to sell to our guests. The time to make a fresh pizza is 20-30 minutes (preparation time and oven time)
It comes fresh out of the oven and is very hot served, if you start to eat it immediately. As the owner I entertain our customers the best way I can and do except complaints, but if somebody accuses me of serving cold frozen pizza than the discussion is over. We are very proud of our quantity and quality of our fresh food and that is the way we want to keep it.
We do have some beers at the bar with other drinking friends since we got more than 50 different kinds of beer.
Some rooms are closer to the bar than other rooms and might be noisier than other rooms, this is your choice.
Best regards,

Johan

Been there before and knew it was nothing above the normal places to stay but this time was very bad. Within my 2 weeks of staying there I have 4 times no water to shower, sheets on the bed were sometimes even too dirty to put a dog on. Airco was very loud and you could hardly charge anything (like phones or pc's - i-pads) because the sockets were ruined as well. Resort? It looks more like a dump. Never going back there, one day it will fall apart.

Room Tip: There is no good room

We do have problems with the City water supply and solved this problem as most of the resorts by having water tanks on our roof to help if there is a water shortage. When this arises we have to switch to these tanks and put other pumps on, witch might take a few minutes, this happens very seldom and we bought a new heavy duty generator unit to help with this.
We have more than 100 bed sheets in stock and all are cleaned by the best laundry in town.
If the aircon is loud you have to report this, we have an aircon technician on duty.
We got international outlets in every room, some countries their plug system does not fit there, some outlets are protected by children friendly covers, you can ask for assistance of our electrician on duty.
Best regards,
Johan
