“Villa Plawa - Serene Villas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2012

Recently we arrived back from Villa Plawa we stayed 19 nights in December. It was our first time staying in a villa as we usually stay in a hotel. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Insa the butler we felt relaxed and knew that our choice of villa was a good one. Walking into the villa straight away you noticed the gardens were well kept and a large pool was very inviting. The pool had sun all day so great if you want to maintain a suntan. The air-conditioned bedrooms are roomy and a welcome relief from the heat. The best feature of the villa is Isna she would arrive in the morning and prepare and serve a wonderful breakfast and then make up your rooms, nothing was to much trouble for her, she would leave about 11am each day but was only a phone call away if we required lunch or dinner etc we enjoyed this as we had privacy throughout the stay. We hired a scooter to get around as the villa is situated Sunset Rd end of JL Plawa, we found the location fine and would stay here again. We had no problems staying at Villa Plawa, yes you do hear roosters but they are a part of the Bali experience, we were sad when our holiday at Villa Plawa came to an end. Looking forward to our next stay.

Dear Kylie S
Thanks you for your lovely comments which we have passed on to our staff who will greatly appreciate hearing from you. Many of our guests develop long lasting friendships with the Villas staff and return often to Bali to further that bond. Come back soon !

This is the third time we have stayed and Serene Villas and still can not fault anything ! It is still fantastic value for money.
From the moment we start corresponding with Nyoman to organise our holiday everything runs smoothly, even though I had to change details several times it was never a problem with the villas. We travel with a large group - only 21 this time - and we occupy 5 of the villas. They welcomed us back to the villas like returning family and that is how we have come to think of them too - as our Bali Family ! Every single villa is in top condition with cleanliness and arrangement. The bedrooms are very large and air conditioned- which works really well and they all have their own ensuite. The living areas are all well appointed and very spacious and airy with good quality ceiling fans to keep you cool. All villas have their own private pool and some have a large cabana which is fabulous in the afternoons to relax with a good book, cool drink and maybe a snack. Even a haven to receive an in-house massage. We were staying in the Garden Villa and had Mini as our butler. Mini is the absolute gem, nothing is too much trouble and she will go above and beyond the call of duty for her guests. The breakfast they cook is wonderful and she would even offer to get us lunch if we happened to be in the villa at that time. I wanted to take her home with me ! She was helped out on a few of the days by Ayu, Yudis and Leani. All three of them are the sweetest girls who also went out of their way to do everything for us. We love them just as much. Our other guests stayed in Frangipani - which was butlered by Yanni, who was running after them like you wouldn't believe, Sucipta was the butler for Palm 1 and he is the most entertaining of all the butlers, he is just a scream and we love him to bits ! Gday butlered Palm 2 and was also fabulous, as was Yudi in Acacia. I mustn't forget Arnata, who has come out of his shell a little more this year. He was our butler in Garden villa last year and is now on nights. Special mentions must be made to Benny the Chef and Wijaya the manager who together co-ordinated and organised our two BBQs in the Garden villa for all of our guests. The first was only a small bbq on the arrival night for the second half of our guests then the second bbq was for New Years Eve. We started the evening with a cocktail party and starters of satay sticks, gado gado, small sandwiches to name just a few, then had the main bbq which had an endless array of food. Way too much for all of us to eat so we were happy to share it with the staff who went out of their way for us. All of our daily butlers did split shifts on these bbq days so they could come back to help out with the bbq. It was great to have them there and so greatly appreciated that they were willing to do this for us. There is also a huge thank you to Darma and Oka our drivers/tour guides. These two men have an endless wealth of knowledge on the surrounding areas and are so happy and willing to share it with us as well as many amusing stories on our trips. Every single member of the staff at Serene Villas always has a smile and friendly word to say when they see you. Not once did I see a sullen expression on the faces of anyone - unlike when you are at home and go out, where you are lucky to get a grunt from the people that serve you. We will miss our Bali family. A huge heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you at Serene Villas for making our holiday so special. Until next time.........xx

I stayed at Suar I with some friends after staying in Villa Mojo April 2011 which is also operated by Serene Villas. Suar I was a bit cheaper but checked out very well.

The driver that picked us up got lost and had to ask for directions so this was not a great start. However, once we arrived at the villa the staff greeted us and showed us around.

The villa is very well laid out and appointed. It is definitely a fantastic place for families with young children as they have a pool fence and gate to the stairs. There is also a ply room that is well stocked with toys and games.

The staff were good but not fantastic like Ri, Wi and Ari at Mojo who made it extremely pleasant. The staff here were good but not the same standard. The English was passable but sometimes it was difficult to communicate. Whereas Mojo staff were discreet but always available, Suar staff sometimes were difficult to locate when we did require something. When they were around they were fantastic.

The chef made an unbelievable dry spiced chicken dish which we had one night. It was a clear winner in the set villa Balinese dinner. Fantastic food and I highly recommend this.

åThe villa itself was very relaxing and clean enough. Big ant problem and the staff only sometimes sprayed the rooms, put out mosquito coils. It should have been done every evening so it was dependent on which staff were on duty as to if it happened or not. The standard of cleaning also varied greatly.

The location was superb. It appears a long way from anywhere but it is actually only a short walk (3-4 minutes) to Seminyak Square and some fantastic restaurants. Seminyak Square also had some good shopping and a gourmet food store that had an excellent range of foods. Grocer and Grind is around the corner from the villa. The Cool Spa near the villa was a bit hit and miss.

The villa should install a couple of split air con units in the main dining/living area to make it even more comfortable during the wet season. The doors open up on both sides but it can still be a bit sticky.

The rooms are large and spacious as are the bathrooms.

All in all, we enjoyed the villa but it wasn't as good as Mojo.

This is the first time, with friends we decided to stay in a villa rather than the usual hotel; I truly wonder why it took me such a long time to chose this option as truly nothing can now compare a week long stay in such a stunning two bedroom villa; Great location, beautiful designed and well appointed villa, a private pool in which you can truly do laps and last a wonderful and gracious service. We loved everything about Villa Kiran and this made our trip to Bali unforgettable. We loved our lady butler "Sumie", who took care of everything beautifully and same of all the other Serene staff that we met; Well in all… a very memorable experience and for sure we will be back as soon as possible!

I stayed with my wife and doughter at Kiran Villa and have to say that the hospitality and quality was second to none.
The villa is brand new , opened in August 2011, with first class amenities and tastefully decorated.
Sumi, the lady in charge, was extremely helpful and everything we wanted was immediately organised.
A place to live forever and the rate was fantastic!!!!
I'm definetely going back.

Recently stayed in these villas, 14 of us, 6 people each in 2 x 3 bedroom villas and another 2 people in a little 1 bed villa.

Location was great, just off Jalan Drupadi in Seminyak, down a fairly long gang (alley) and a short walk to "Eat Street".

Villas themselves were great, clean, tidy and good sized. Bedrooms were lovely, good air conditioning, large rooms with good wardrobe space, outdoor bathrooms which were also roomy. The master bedroom in the bigger villas had a huge bath, bonus for those who love a bath as opposed to a shower, but they all had showers too of course. Only thing I can say they are lacking is a decent mirror, a full length one in the bedroom would be really useful. The only mirror was in the outdoor bathroom and the light was pretty crappy.

Staff were fabulous including the crazy Susie, the lovely Ayu and ALL the others. No complaints there at all.

The pool is okay, not beautiful but functional and okay, nice water feature.

Brekky was great, staff bent over backwards to provide anything we wanted and it was all good, eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes and of course, Indonesian breakfast. We didnt like the bread nor the butter, but thats just personal taste. Juices were fabulous and the coffee was great and plentiful.

We organised for them to cook us a bbq one night, 16 of us, they set up the tables in one of the villas, came in with a bbq on the lawn and served us, was a great night and food was lovely.

Rooms were cleaned each day to a great standard. The living area is outdoors but under cover with ceiling fans (and you need them), bring plenty of bug spray. Dengue fever is alive and kicking in Bali. TV and dvd with a movie channel was great.

The little villa for 2 people was also great, you have to see the plunge pool to believe it!

Room Tip: We stayed in Palm 1 and 11. Both were great and away from traffic and noise.

I think the words to describe our stay at Villa Mojo was tranquil environment and excellent service. The villa was fantastically decked out in greenery and very well maintained by the excellent staff. The staff Ri, Wi and Ari are excellent: professional, hospitable and accede to all your requests and take note of your every need (even when i left a note to say that my aircon was not cold, it was fixed by the afternoon). They make the Villa Mojo stay truly exceptional and worth the money.

However, points to note for travellers choosing the villa or for the management to improve:
1. TVs in the bedrooms. We found that this could be a point for consideration if your stay includes days just lazing around.

2. Showers: they are all rain showers, but the water pressure could be better.

3. Living area is on second floor: may prove difficult for elderly staying cos of the climb up.
