“Sun Island Villa is beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2011

Stay for 4D3N. It really beautiful like what you see on the website hotel. Stayed in the one bedroom villa, it's really nice villa. Enjoy the stay there. I have attached some photos too.
Perfect stay, only thing negative i can think of is the water flow too slow in the bathroom, but it is definitely not a major issue, still bearable.

Stayed at the deluxe pool villa with one bedroom. Size is just right for a couple. Clean and modern with a kitchen where you can find all the necessary utensils to cook up a meal if you want to. Pool size is good for a dip but not for doing laps. Comfortable lounge chairs. There is no direct sunlight pouring into the pool area due to the shades from the trees, but the pool water is not as cold as what some reviewers mentioned. Great tv channels selections, about 50? Siting lounge is ok, not for lying down though. 2 showers with one indoor and one outdoor. Think the outdoor shower is without heater, water is cold. There is a big bathtub as well. The villas are lined in a row, separated by a wall. So it can get pretty noisy if your neighbors do not keep their volume down. Location is great with plenty of cabs, restaurants and convenience stores. Bintang supermarket is about 3 minutes walk away. Massage service from the spa in the villa is good, and price is very reasonable. About USD27 with a 20% discount for one hour. Breakfast is ala carte with four selections - continental, American, British and Indonesian. Portion is adequate and service is efficient. There is also free snacks served during tea time. Quite limited selections, but with good tea/coffee varieties. Overall a value for money location.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2011

For our final 6 days in Bali in Jan 2011 we headed back to Seminyak to stay at Sun Island Villas on Jl Raya Seminyak. We chose the place for it's location, being less than 100 metres from the Bintang Supermarket, so it was in the perfect central location for us to dine and explore for our second week in Bali. The Villas are quite small by Seminyak standards- we would probably stay at Sanyas Suite again next time instead just for the scale of the rooms and much larger pool, but the service was good. Breakfast was always hot, the security guards always helpful and smiling, and we were quite happy with the choice. The pools in the villas as per reviews are quite cold and take a little getting used to.

Some of the prices are extortionate- for instance wifi was 211,000rp, , ie around $25 AUD a day !!! Quite disappointing when so many cafes and hotels offer it for free. Also, several times when we phoned receptiuon to organise things we were met with a "can;t do" attitude. But then 10 minutes later we would get a call to say the request had been sorted. For simple things like booking a motorbike or getting a driver there should be no hurdles to jump when organising these things through reception. We were flat out denied the ability to book a bike and sourced one ourselves from a street vendor. We had been told we could get a late check out on our last day but then at 11.40 am we were phoned and told we had to be out by 12. These are the little things that good front desk management should be able to avoid. We were offered a shower and they held onto our nbags, but on our last day In Bali we found ourselves loitering around the cafes and shops to "kill time", when we could have had an airconditioned room and pool as we had been promised.....But nonetheless a good time was had.

Arrived during a moonsonal down pour, they upgraded our inital booking of a pool villa to a deluxe pool villa which was a great start. We were given a personal tour of the villa and how things work etc etc- a nice touch. We had buffet breakfast by the main pool each morning, a great selection of fruit, ceral, breads, bacon, hashbrown, asian food, juices the hot breakfast stations usually changed each day. They will cook eggs fresh to your liking- but we didnt take them up on that as I was happy with toast and vegiemite. We had almost all of our lunches and dinners either via room service or dined by the main pool. There was a large selection of food and the presentation of the food was nice. Out of the 6 days of meals there I had 2 probably not so good meals- one being meat was raw (but then they recooked), and the other I had a reaction to the fish (Im not allergic to seafood) but I had to call a doctor in and he said its very common for westerners to have reaction to seafood in Bali as the water where the fish came from can be often contaminated. Other than those 2 incidents I was pretty satisfied with the food.
The deluxe pool villa is kitted out with a inside kitchen- fridge, grill microwave, gas cook top and things you may need if you felt like cooking up a storm. Lounge very basic chairs comfortable enough to watch a dvd for a few hours. The bedroom is quite large, bathroom is also large however we found the shower and toilet areas to look 'unclean' this we think maybe due to the fact its tiled with black gloss tiles shows up everything and maybe the tropical mould emphasises that- but not 4 star clean which you would expect for the star rating of this place.
I tried out the onsite day spa, I had a 1hour armotherapy massage I didnt really rate it, the movements of massage were very fast and not relaxing and I was not offered anything to wipe the excess massage oil off with- I even asked for a towel and the therapist said have a shower back in your villa. I thought other day spas in the area I visited - Glo spa and AMO spa were much better quality/service.
There seems to be more staff than guests at the complex and this I found sometimes abit distracting as the minute I open the villa door I was greeted with hello, by 3 or 4 staff members which when you do this 3 or 4 times a day to the same people can be slightly annoying and detracts from the setting. However the staff are very attentive when you require anything which was great.
The location of the complex is great, short walk to the beach, supermarket and great boutiques. There are some hawkers in the area but the further down you walk the better it becomes.
If you are after a holiday where you dont want to do much apart from lay by your own private pool, eat and drink this is the place for you- we hardly left the complex only to buy bottle water and a few dvds from the shop up the road and visit a few day spas. You will love this place.

We usually stay at a hotel but had the Sun Island Villas recommended by a friend.

Having our own enclosed area and plunge pool was great. The location is excellent and even though it's just off the main road you can't hear any noise.

Staff were great and we'll definately be back on our next visit.

As we walked into the Hotel we were amazed at how quiet and beautiful it was. The staff were very friendly and always wanted to help. We arrived early so we waited in the Restaurant until our room was ready. Our Daughter was asleep in our arms and they asked if we wanted to use one of their spare beds in the spa for her to sleep on or if we would like to wait inside the aircon of the spa area. This was before we even checked in!
I would not say that it is a child friendly hotel but for our family it was perfect. We had to put the mattress on the floor as the beds are very high for our 1year old and 2 1/2 year old. The stairs are too steep for kids to climb themselves but thats not much of an issue for us again. We loved the private plunge pool where our kids to jump in and out as they got too hot or just wanted a dip. The aircon was amazing and sometimes we had it too cold for my comfort. Food was fantastic and staff very friendly. My son bought a putt putt boat and was so excited and showed some of the restaurant staff and one of them asked how it worked and got some oil and put it in the main pool for him to watch. After my son sunk it and oil was in their wonderfully clean pool they just fished it out and fixed the boat and tried again. Was really nice to see!
They always welcomed us back from an outing or asked if we needed a cab when we were leaving. The kids were welcomed by name every meal we had and accommodated for as much as possible
We would defiantly stay here again. No free WiiFii was annoying but we did get by with what we bought.
Was not to far of a walk to the beach or short cab ride to the main restaurants but the room service was some great food!
