“Amazing service & beautiful resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

Incredibly impressive resort, starting from the airport transfer. We stepped off the plane, walked about 10 metres and saw the Samaya steward waiting for us. We followed him through immigration (where we didn't have to wait in any lines, and by-passed even the pilots and air hostess exit - he took care of everything just flashing our passports a couple of times) and to get out luggage and emerged in the area where all the other Hotel stewards were waiting for their guests. We walked right past them to some type of "back" exit where we were escorted into a privately chauffered, ,air conditioned Samaya vehicle. All up we spent about 10 minutes between getting off the plane and getting into the Samaya car. Amazing given we were one of the last off the plane and most people were waiting for ages in the immigration line as multiple planes arrived at the same time! We felt like celebrities!

After a short ride we arrived at the Samaya and were greeted by a yummy refreshing "Samaya" juice and cold hand towels. I can't remember the fellow's name who met us but he did a great job explaining the resort and surrounds. We arrived at 8am and check - in is at 2pm so we were a bit worried but amazingly, they took us to sit at the beach for maybe 20 mins, and then led us to our villa which was ready 5 hours early! We were so happy as we were pretty tired from the flight and just wanted to relax in privacy.

The villa itself was HUGE and impeccably clean (and I am a bit OCD when it comes to cleanliness). The bathroom was incredible - double shower which opens up to the courtyard and onto the pool and timber decking on the floor, separate toilet, double vanities, large jacuzzi with TV in front and luxury toiletries. The bed was some kind of super king. My boyfriend is 6,5" and normally his feet hang off the end of a king whereas here his toes couldn't even reach the end of the bed when he tried. Super comfy too.

We woke up pretty late each day and loved the fact that you could order breakfast at any time (sometimes we were ordering it at 1pm!) and that you could order as much as you liked! My boyfriend would order 3 breakfasts while I stuck to one, plus fresh coffee (as good as any cafe in Perth), freshly squeezed juices and food which outshone a lot of other resorts I've been to in Asia as they try to make it taste "western" but it always just ends up tasting bland.

We stayed in a Royal Courtyard Villa (booked really late and all beach front villas were booked out) and didn't mind the shuttle to and from the main area at all. The shuttle was usually there waiting for us about 60 seconds after we called it (most of the time we weren't even ready yet and they had to wait for us!). Even though you are in the heart of Seminyak, we never heard anyone around us and may as well have been somewhere extremely secluded. We hired a scooter to zoom around in and they didn't mind at all, just made us park a little car park area before the entrance to the villas which is good so as not to disturb the other guests.

Service at the pool/beach was faultless and we had a degustation dinner at the Samaya restaurant which was lovely and better than the other top tier restaurants we went to during our stay. The only downfall was that we wanted to have a wine pairing with our degustation but the waiter told us he didn't know enough to explain the wines and the manager who was normally there was away, so we decided just to get a bottle as the enjoyable part of wine pairing is having someone explain how each wine matches each course. A great touch was that they let us bring 2 bottles of Bollinger which we had bought duty free down to the bar & restaurant with us, rather than making us buy them off the menu! I thought this was fantastic as most places have all kinds of "rules" about "BYO" and the butler even went to get the second bottle from our villa for us after we'd finished our first!

All in all, a wonderful experience. Expensive but worth every cent. A bit of constructive criticism I have is that the manager Ray Clark did not welcome us, or speak to us during our stay or say goodbye but we saw him speaking to/socialising with a lot of other guests. I appreciate he probably can't talk to every guest but it would certainly have made us feel a bit more special. The other thing was while the spa massage was great, when I asked them to massage firmer I don't think they really understood because the pressure didn't really change. Probably just the language barrier. Oh and the other things was that the Bose ipod dock had the old connector whereas we wanted to plug in our iphone 5 to play music, so we couldn't. And the butler could not find us a connector so we just played music from our laptop.

Would definitely stay again and would love to try one of the beach front villas next time.

However I have read the recent reviews and think they are VERY petty.
We have been coming to the Samaya for 12 years, even before it was the Samaya and it was called Santika Villas.
Our experience is somewhat different.
The Staff could NOT be more accommodating.
The villas are wonderful, they are clean and at any time during the day or night if you require something, the front desk send a butler who have a very good understanding of English.
IT is true that outside guests come for dinner and sunset, and yes it is true that they start setting up the tables for dinner at around 4.00 I do not believe they EVER ask you to go away because they are setting up tables. If you had asked they would not bother you at all and continue doing their setting up around you. OR better still a simple 'please would you set up our sun beds at the other end of the deck' would have been a better idea on your part. The staff are SO obliging that what you have said does not make any sense.
Ray Clarke the General manager has, and continues to do an exceptional job.
All his staff are inspired by him. He shows the staff respect and understanding. If he told a member of staff to do something differently, they do not take offence and they do it! We have watched him with staff for 8-10 years now and they all LOVE working with him here at the Samaya.
Most of the staff have been here since we started coming here and we watch them grow and flourish under the good care of Mr.Ray.
He is SO obliging and does everything to help! I heard him offering a couple on their honeymoon, beachside accommodation for their last two nights here so that they could experience being by the sea as opposed to the courtyard.
The location IS sublime, situated right next to one of the most important temples in Bali. Pettitenget Temple.
I have NEVER seen a dog NOT on a LEAD at sunset. I do not believe the Legian or OBeroi offer sunset next to their owners.
The food in BREEZE is really really lovely, ttshat is why it is so popular to inside and outside guests
The breakfast is free to have at any time of day!
I would NEVER stay anywhere else in Bali and Thank Ray and all the staff for welcoming us home every time we come here.
Coming back to the Samaya year after year is just unbelievable. We come there hoping to recharge our batteries and from the minute we get there we do exactly that.
We cannot fault the Samaya.
And although we would love to see the rest of the world there is something about this unique hotel that lures us back TWICE a year.

Room Tip: the courtyard villas are cosier than the beach front villas, BUT when you on the beach front you hea...

We loved our stay at the Samaya Seminyak. We travelled with our two kids, ages 11 and 7, and each of us loved it the same. The staff were fantastic (Roger at the front desk was truly exceptional - helping us plan day trips, find restaurants, and organize our travel). The service was always top notch with staff members at every turn ready to take care of our needs. We stayed in one of the One Bedroom Royal Pavillions (beachside) with two roll away beds for the kids added in and the location was fantastic! The main pool was just outside of our door, the restaurant (which we had dinner at three times during our five night stay) was a one minute walk, the beach was a one minute walk, and the spa was right there as well. The location could not have been better. And for a place that was right in the middle of everything, it was exceedingly quiet and private. We never heard anyone else once we were in our villa.

We had afternoon tea every day as we swam in our private villa pool. We had breakfast every morning alongside the beach in the restaurant - and breakfasts here (at the Breeze) are fabulous! The food is exceptional - and we have eaten in many five star restaurants. We basically had breakfast every day at 10:00am or so, enjoyed a leisurely afternoon tea, and then had dinner. There is no room for any other food. We ate like kings and felt completely and utterly spoiled.

Our butlers were always on call to assist us with anything we needed, as were the hotel staff in the lobby. The rooms are incredibly spacious and clean, with lots of hot water, bottled water, and many other special "niceties" throughout.

We will absolutely go back to stay at the Samaya Seminyak during our next trip to Bali. On a side note, we spent one evening having dinner at the Samaya Ubud. The food there was also exceptional (kudos to the chef!) and the environment was stunning overlooking the Ayung river. On our next trip, we might do the "shared package" of 2 nights in Ubud and 3 nights at Seminyak, as hard as it would be to not be staying at the Samaya Seminyak.

Honestly, our five nights at the Samaya flew by and we loved every minute of it all. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. It is fabulous!

Room Tip: Highly recommend the Royal Pavillion (beachside) for location. Everything is literally no more than...

This was our second stop for our honeymoon. We had seen the reviews and the photos online but none of them did them justice as to have experienced this hotel first hand.

As soon as you step out the car and into the lobby you are welcomed by extremely genuine friendly faces, which were consistent throughout our stay of 7 nights. Everyone was very helpful, especially the head of customer relations, Mr Karmaya, he was absolutely outstanding! He helped us plan many outings as well as giving us plenty of local tips, he would never forget anything you asked and he would go out of his way for any requests.

The villa was outstanding, we could not have asked for anything better, it was all perfect and pristine, having our own pool was great to relax by in the later afternoon.

I would recommend this hotel as it's attention to detail is outstanding and it's customer service is first class. This hotel made our honeymoon that little bit more special and we hope to return at some point in the future.

Truly exceptional service and personal attention sustained throughout our initial 6 night and subsequent 3 night stay. The General Manger, Ray Clark, leads by example and all staff, without exception, were genuinely and delightfully engaging. We had a few travel issues during our stay in Bali and these were all proactively whipped out of our hands and taken care of by the team. The property is a boutique style oasis and positions you practically on the surf, closest of all the resorts. Our Villa was beautiful and exceeded expectations. The Spa and Breeze restaurant are also excellent and very accommodating of our special requests. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in a villa with private pool 1 back from beachfront and also the top ocean facing villa wh...

We stayed 5 nights at the Samaya Seminyak and have not been disappointed. We have been to alot of high class hotels, but this was absolutely off the charts. From the welcome to the "see you later" (there are no good buys at the samaya) everything was up to the highest standards. Once you introduced yourself, almost every staff member greets you buy your name. very friendly and capable staff. always smiling and trying to go the extra mile. the facilities and amenities are outstanding. the villa was spot clean until the the last corner, was cleaned twice a day. the breakfast is simply amazing, the portions are huge and you will not leave the table having any room left for food. the chef does outstanding food, very tasty and modern fresh twist on some classic dishes. the breeze restaurant continues the impression we already had of the hotel, even though more expensive than the outside restaurants, the service, taste of the food and general comfort level are off the charts.

when checking out after 5 nights, we had a bill of roughly 4 Million rupies (290 CHF). I was shocked and supposed some bills must have gotten lost... where we live a single restaurant bill for 2 with wine can get to that amount.

we continued our travel to lombok and when entering the new hotel, we were already somehow disappointed because the room could not match what we had experienced at the samaya.

will definately come back when next time in bali!

thanks again Ray, Hardy and all the other Staff at the samaya for an amazing stay!

Room Tip: all villas, you cant go wrong!
